I never got the appeal of Zaeed. Beyond his DLC, I never used him; he stayed in his hole for the rest of the game. For me, he was a walking cliche of the guy that sounds tough and morally gray.
He's an older bad boy alpha that gave my femshep the 'gina tingles. A shame that she couldn't 'mance him and instead only has submissive beta chumps moping about their exes like Kaidan and disgusting looking aliens to choose from.
My femshep ended up being as dry as the sahara throughout the trilogy as a result.

Shame that maleshep couldn't have that cute little asian to romance. I would've preferred her for him over Miranda "Michael Jackson" Lawson.

You know what would be a pretty cool "Zaeed"? An Asari. Please hear me out:
Make a battle hardened Asari, have her voiced by Jane Lynch, add battle scars, make her NOT display 2 square meters of cleavage, make her rely on guns, being a warrior from an early age so her biotics are completely raw and untrained. Make her a cross between Snake Plissken and Imperator Furiosa.
Kill 2 birds with one stone: Add the token asari squadmate, and please the people who want a non-fanservice strong female char. :3

I'd rather not. 'Grizzled veteran warstory dude with pragmaticism bordering on amorality' is enjoyable and all, but it's also an achetype that's been a crutch for Bioware. I'd rather something new- or at least less used.
Everything has become a cliched archetype. Can you create a completely original character not based on some sort of cliche or stereotype?

I like Zaeed because he doesn't got no Daddy Issues.

No thanks. I did not like Zaeed, so would prefer not having another character like him.

I always liked Joker's line about Zaeed. "Zaeed is like YOU. Except he takes checks."
This is how they envisioned Shepard.. no matter how much of a weenie some play him/her as.

I think its more about Zaeed and Shepard's shared stubbornness/dedication towards a goal moreso than Shepard being canonized as a batshit crazy, gun-toting, renegade.

I don't know. Joker usually goes for the easy joke most of the time. Not compliments.
Same with Vega and his "loco" comment.

I'd say Jacob was pretty alpha too. Sure, he had daddy issues, but what do you expect? He's black after all, so I give him a pass on that.

I don't know if you're going for bad stereotype. Or making fun of Bioware who went for bad stereotype.

Bioware should have had an older ruthless/pragmatic man as a possible LI for the female player character, should preferebly also be the "mission control" character of the story. Someone who used to be on the front lines fighting the good fight but has retired for a leadership role.
You know, like this character.
Huge missed opportunity there

I'd like a Ripley type, sans the septuagenarian part, of course.

If we were to get 'the veteran' achetype, I'd appreciate it if we could get a female tought-girl: someone like Sergeant Calhoun from Wreck-it-Ralph. Tough as nails, more balls than a Krogan, and having a sweet side analogous to sand-paper.
I hope we DON'T get a tough girl character. I've seen and experienced enough of them already (in games). Plus, I don't like it when woman act like men.
Edit: What I mean by "tough girl" is characters like Shae Vizla.

With all the assumptions and choices Bioware made for the player when it came to Shepard, if they meant that it would be that.
