I suppose it's more bearable. Having a game declare itself as the "game of the year" based on one or two awards it recieved next to other games which also won game of the year awards was a tad bit annoying. Although personally, I think "definitive" is also annoying, it's a bit cheeky if you ask me and implies the prior edition was not the complete game (although I suppose that's actually true for most games nowadays sadly).

"Definitive" is like the dumbest thing to call a later release of an existing game.

For the games that I don't really care much for, I usually wait for a "definitive" or "ultimate" edition in the bargain bin.

Like Sleeping Dogs and Just Cause 2.

What annoys me is when games come out with so many different editions all at once. Look at WatchunderscoreDogs. You've got like 7 editions on launch day. Enhanced, definitive, deluxe, digital deluxe, hacker deluxe, GOTY, special, limited, collector's. All 'definitive' and 'enhanced' stand for now in gaming is that the game has content chopped up for DLC and we're expected to shovel out $100+ to get it.

I've learned not to buy any DLCs and play the "vanilla" version until there's a final "definitive" edition with all the DLCs included.

You're essentially buying the same game twice, but that's what I did with New Vegas.
