Is There No Hope At All For Solas?

So here I am, and I just finished listening to Patrick Weekes on Solas. Over the multiple playthroughs I've come to adore the character and understanding the deeper meaning to him, even more so if you get to romance him on one of the playthroughs. And an interviewer asked Patrick why did they use the one year game release delay to (among other things) make Solas a romanceable character, even if nothing at the end of the game would change. His answer was: "Well... To make it sadder *nervous chuckle* really."

So here I humbly ask... With the expansions that are coming out (and will for certain wrap things up with him, but...)

Do you guys see a bright future in a romance with Solas?

I love his character also due to his natural sadness (I'm naturally attracted to broken things, needless to say that the books I love most are the saddest, so I guess I'm kind of a masochist), so this is the reason I ask your opinion!

What did Patrick Weekes say about Solas?

At any rate, as someone who romanced Morrigan before any DLC, this brings back so many memories.

I really hate him (as i hate all the elves), but he certainly established himself as a solid character, a one that is unplaceable, so perhaps there is bright future in romancing him even if little, he should be in the coming dlc and very likely in the next sequel, and if not bright for your quizzy maybe to another one, probably they'll end his romance the same way with the warden and Morrigan.

But hey cheer up

Yeah, as a fellow Solasmancer, I gotta agree that it's a doomed romance. I remember Weekes said in that interview that Solas had to be true to himself, something like that. Hopefully we'll see!

I remember a thread a while back that was discussing how lots of the straight female romances tended to end somewhat tragically :P but I'm with you on this one - I really liked his character, and it seems like there's still a story to be told there. I feel like if they're going to introduce a new PC in the next DA game, there should have been an option to be romantically stupid and drop everything to chase after him. Like, sure Solas, be true to yourself and run off, but what if I'm playing a stubborn elf? It's hardly true to that Inquisitor's character to go "Oh okay...bye I guess...."

My Lavellan would probably want to help him in whatever he's doing. I sorta kinda really hope she can. She's pretty stubborn, but then again, perhaps so is he. :P

Do you guys see a bright future in a romance with Solas?

For some players, perhaps.

For my character? No. Or rather, it won't be bright for Solas.

He's a very powerful being, considered a god by the elves...wouldn't it totally kill his mystique if he ended up being a dad and husband?

Best you can probably get is a kind farewell.

It seems like this is a running trend for Bioware apostate romances,(well except for Merrill) that they all have a degree of heartbreak and drama. Morrigan running away and the warden having to chase her down, Anders deceiving you into unknowingly helping him into blowing up a Chantry, and now Solas running off to do who knows what.

However, both Morrigan and Anders romances could end with them being with their lover if the right choices are taken, such as don't do the ultimate sacrifice and follow your witchy lover into the magic mirror. I bet a lot of Morrigan romancers thought their warden would be alone, but then Witch Hunt rolled around. So we are probably going to see him again and be given choice between joining him, letting him go alone, or trying to stop him. Just like how you have the option in Witch Hunt of either going with Morrigan, letting her go alone, or stabbing her ( which didn't work). So I think we will have the same options for Solas, and in that case it all depends on your Lavellan on how tragic it will be. Mine will help Solas, not just because she wants to be with him, but because whatever he is going to do will help the elves and that's all she really cares about, no matter the cost.

You can stab him, but like Morrigan, I doubt he would really be dead.

Yep, I made the mistake of dating the apostate twice in a row. Going back to the ex-templar teddy bear or carefree rogue next time...

@Matriarch: Nope. The romance is probably my personal favorite and I'm rooting for the crazy kids but....nope. They both have Things To Do, and no one knows whether the Inquisition's goals will align with his at all going forward. (They have to find out he was in(?)directly responsible for the Breach at some point, right?) And if he does turn up in an Inquisition DLC, I'm guessing it might be at the tail end of it and we'll get, at most, a single wrap-up conversation before he goes off to do his thing again. Quizzy saving him with the power of her love is just not the tone they were going for with this one. I'm a pessimist and a masochist, it will end in pain and it will feel so good

You sure about that? It has been that long since they did a "Oh, sure Leliana died when the warden killed her at the temple, but she got better." Solas is to much of an important character to just die.

My quizz will probably not want to save him so much so as she will probably want to join him. Not just because she loves him, but because she wants to make things better for the elves and Solas's mission, if it will benefit the elves then she will probably go with it. After all, she has done some pretty amoral things to advance her pro elf agenda, such letting Celene be killed and unleashing the wrath of hardened Divine Leliana upon the Chantry. So she won't try to save Solas, in fact she may end up encouraging him.

Oh hey, mine did that too. Awesome.

As for helping him, well. Depending on how a reunion goes that will probably be an option, but nobody knows what he's actually planning. "The People" need him, but Solas is hilariously inconsistent about what he considers that to mean. What if saving the People could only be achieved by harming some other group of non-elf people? My Inquisitor's made lots of non-elf friends now, so that wouldn't fly. Per Cole's cryptic post-game conversation, he is off doing something he wouldn't even wish on his worst enemy. So it probably isn't as simple as catching up to him and then "Oh, you wanted to join me on my ill fated quest? Why didn't you just say so!"

Then again, we all thought romanced Morrigan was up to something bad after Witch Hunt, and it turns out she's just raising her kid with the man she loves the whole time, so who knows! I'm just waiting on more information before I decide either way, I guess.
