Why would you play assassin on nightmare + beyond?

I don't see any use for this class on perilous/nightmare, so I'm hoping someone would enlighten me.

 

She has absolutely no survivability, once she's out of stealth. Instant arrow to the face. Poison weapons only seem useful if you're lucky enough to have a group member who knows the value of bottlenecking, and her major attacks like twin fangs and shadow strike hit nothing but air most of the time.

When rage demons or terrors appear? Forget it.

I can see that she might be useful for flanking isolated archers and then hope not to get an arrow between the eyes immediately after she pops out of stealth, but other than that, I see no reason to play this class on the highest difficulties.

 

Anyone have some useful tips for a good perilous/nightmare build?

I think the same other than the ability I was never here which let's you go right back to stealth. But you won't get the big numbers. I feel the same was about the Quanari. Perilous fc is a struggle. Anything beyond that isn't worth trying. Which sucks cause I do like my 2 handed warriors.

Assassin is fine on Perilous.
Run ahead and pick isolated targets and maintain stealth.
On Nightmare she can't OHK much so she's pretty useless.
However, both her damage output and skill tree layout have been pointed out to Luke and I expect a significant change coming soon.
Watch this space.

She only has problems on nightmare because of the buff to enemy hp and you sort of always wanted to take any enemy out using two abilities at most and then going into stealth, which you can do on perilous with good daggers. I would argue she still can take out certain problematic units like despair demons / venetori mages quickly even on nightmare - problem is there are lots of those at least on ferelden castle and she is a deadweight against rage and lol pride demons. In general her dps at that point does not hold up vis a vis archer or dualist.

There's quite a few characters that just don't match up well or play the same on NM and HB. Only the archer, reaver, and support characters fill largely the same roles. The rest simply don't have the general damage to do the same thing not that that's bad. It simply takes longer. I'd love to see an assassin with Hakkons Mercy and Cordovas Smile to see if that allows them to one-shot again. That would require immense promotions to pull of though.

I love to take the Assassin into Nightmare so I can watch everything but the first spawn of enemies from the Fade.

I also have very low promotions, so that happens any class I play on Nightmare if I make a single mistake.

Perilous, very much so - If you can live with being an addition to the team who isn't exactly congratulated for it in the scoreboards. You mustn't expect to get EXP thrown at you like popcorn at a fondling couple in the cinema, but Argent still kills individual things very fast, and that just never gets boring, now does it?

 

On Nightmare, I found no class incredibly better or worse with my low stats. I suppose that is what it was made for.

Why would I take Assassin's on NM and HB?

 

To make the game even harder since Assassin's deals almost zero damage and fades away very fast. Better play with 3 people instead. The entire one-hit-kill purpose is destroyed in those difficulties.

Agreed. Hakkon dagger is a must, though. Deathblow/Twin Fangs/Hidden Blades/Stealth

I just did some perilous runs and was second on the leader board with 24 kill streak, do you not crit all the time? Of course I had those multiple time some 16 etc and a mage keep kill stealing me...

 

Actually after reading some of these comments, the real question is who are you playing with?

 

You are playing her wrong. 50 armor pen from stealth, plus armor pen from Hakkon which you put on the left side which is the right hand. 11k+ crit hits from deathblow.  stamina from looked like it hurt and dance of death. Using death blow without stealth only on weaker enemies. Win.

 

One last thing your teammates may try to stay away from you, follow them lmao.

Assassin is a really fun class to play with actually - why?

Because unlike many other agents it is important to focus on position it well, able to focus the right target, keep your stealth, pick out important targets or at least distract them while the team catching up or can take them out.

 

I dont have that goddamn much promos, but could solo perilous fc zone 4 as my party bled out. Assassin not for soloing though, it took ages as I had to pick targets one by one. A decent weapon in her hand can do some blood magic (Hakkon and savage thorn works well for me)

 

I didnt try it on NM yet but I would love to, I wont be able one shot it is true but thats part of a challenge which can make it fun. Its a brain character - not only important the skills, the upgrade and weapons but also tactical view on the battlefield and eternal moving/kiting even in stealth so enemy wont pull you out of stealth with cds on them. 

 

It is also more fun then just rage across on Reaver and spam dragon rage+rampage. Nowdays everyone going NM on Reaver and AW - a bit of change in team is refreshing and while the drops are tempting it is a game you play for fun, if you like to entertain yourself with a less durable agent then go for it and enjoy!

I've played him on NM and HB too I didn't see anything wrong with NM. HB I stayed in stealth more and was more cautious we wiped to mages pulling the tank into the glyph. Nothing wrong with playing Assassin on any level just don't pug. However, I would rather play a lego on HB because after war cry melee enemies hit me for 1 dmg which surprised me.

Yes. Perilous is now just a walkover with pretty much any class now since the armour buff.

But on NM, assassin can still deal large damage, but the number of enemy targets are just too many to make her useful enough, let alone there are obvious better alternatives like duelist if one really love the play style of DW rogue. But in practise, taking archer is a much more sensible alternative.

Her outgoing damage is fine with the right promotes and gear, but I find she's too delicate to play in NM. Rather, she's viable if you play cautiously, but other classes can put out similar damage without having to play nearly as cautiously in NM. Some balancing toward defense wouldn't hurt. The fact that stray arrows and magic that wasn't intended for you could still instantly kill you out of stealth is problematic.

 

Maybe a defensive passive that substantially reduces the incoming damage of the first attack that removes stealth with a 30 second to one minute cooldown to prevent anyone from abusing it. The goal is still to never get hit, but at least this way you get some insurance from unexpected or unusual/glitchy attacks. The duelist has elusive, after all.
