Reaver OP? What Difficulty Levels?

So I finally specialized into Reaver and it's not even fair anymore. I'm level 15 and I've been utterly destroying everything with dragon rage. 1K+ damage occurs pretty regularly, and it's 2-3 hits and most mobs are dead.

I AM on normal however, and I'm curious - does the jump in difficulty to Hard (and eventually Nightmare) make Reaver a less appealing option? It seems utterly OP at the moment, but maybe that IS just because of the massive health loss?

I put all points in as many passive Vanguard skills through Unbowed, and fully poured into Reaver, as all the 2H moves are essentially crowd control and if they're DPS based moves, Dragon Rage blows them out of the water.

If anyone else specced Reaver and is playing on Hard/Nightmare, let me know how it is, as on normal, I feel like... a god.  :D

I never played on those levels, but I believe they would be harder, as the enemies have higher health (I think) and they hit harder. Also, Dragon Rage costs health, which is bad on Nightmare (for the AI think).

Reaver on nightmare has been a blast.

My bar looks like this anymore... Dragon rage, circle of pain, consume, unbowed, charging bull, block and slash, horn of valor, Rampage... all are upgraded... I've been playing around with different passives so the back end changes but those abilites are the core of my Reaver.

Edit: don't let the AI run a 2h Reaver... Personal control is a must in my opinion.

Oh, it's my inquisitor, and I feel obliged to play as him throughout the entire game. I may try Viv at some point as I hear fun things about Knight-Enchanter, but oh man Reaver is a BLAST.

Good to know and thanks for the two cents. I've been excited to head home all day to just go dragon hunting as Dragon Rage just... destroys. I may have to try Hard for a bit and see how it goes from there.

The game really is too easy, especially with crafted gear.  I highly recommend a nightmare play through.

Almost any spec can be OP even on Nightmare depending on your gear. Having said that, Reaver does have really high damage, but it is balanced out by their poor survivability. Even with dual Guard on Hit masterworks you will die sometimes on Nightmare.

Use superb belt of focus and a crafted masterwork for focus gain. Superb life drain ring and and maybe guard on hit. Those two items if you get them make it quite op. Spam rampage due to focus gain every mob fight and clean up with dragon rage. Unbound and warhorn recommended for more difficult fights.

Yes. You can absolutely do it, especially if you use a shield. Nightmare is not really that hard once you get used to it and once you've gained a few levels. You probably would not want to respec into Reaver immediately after Skyhold or something. You will find that enemies are capable of breaking your guard and you have to be cautious.

The biggest problem I found is not actually the health drain -- it's giving up 3 skill slots to skills that have no defense, utility, or crowd control.

On nightmare, the hardest part is getting to the specialization in the first place.

I would not say Reaver is overpowered considering what you can do with other specializations.  Good for single target DPS, but with limited options for aggro dump.

I've played reaver on nightmare since day one. It is very, VERY viable. But it requires a good support team if you're the mad raving lunatic type of player like I am...

Reavers are beastly.  Only thing is that you WILL require another warrior for a tank.  Other than that you are good to go but watch your health!

The only time I had an issue was playing Hakkon (nightmare obviously) and there you really have to be careful.  Most rewarding specialization other than DW rogue is the Reaver.  When you hit something it hurts.

As others have stated above...gear.  Well you need only the best +guard on hit that you possess.  Optimally the silverite version and then get an item with fade cloak.  You are not a tank and NO you are not single target either.  You do the most damage vs a single target but do not rely soley upon dragon rage and devour.  Two button presses are rather boring.

I've played 3 warriors on nightmare, one was a templar (good AoE vs certain mobs), and 2 reavers.  I tried a champion but dang I hate being the tank.  Your reaver should not equip a shield.  Admittedly it works quite well with a shield but do not do that silly nonsense.  You are there to kill or be killed.  That is the fun of the spec.
