The research suggests 452b has five times the mass of Earth, is about 1.5bn years older, and has a gravity about twice as powerful as our own.

About 1,400 light years away, Kepler 452b orbits a star similar to our sun, and at about the same distances as Earth orbits the sun, meaning it has a similar length year and exists in the “habitable zone” where liquid water can exist on a planet.

Jenkins said they suspect the planet is rocky, likely with active volcanoes, and has a thicker atmosphere with greater cloud cover than the Earth.

But although 452b has more in common with Earth than any exoplanet yet discovered, its star is 1.5bn years older, 4% more massive and 20% brighter than our own. As stars age they grow in mass and energy, casting more heat at the objects in their orbit.

Do you think there is life on this planet?

I wonder exactly how much more gravity than Earth standard an average, healthy human could tolerate? I'm pretty sure it would wreak havoc on our circulatory system, so unless I am underestimating a healthy heart's performance, I doubt a 2G planet is habitable, in which case: next!

Just open the config file and lower gravity to 1.0. NASA is being lazy.

At 1 G we require 22 millimeters of mercury blood pressure to pump sufficient blood up the foot or so distance from our hearts to our brains. In 2 G's, we need twice that pressure.

Just checked up, apparently 2G has been tested and no adverse effects been surveyed in a 24h exposure test. That's obviously not exactly longterm surveillance, but still something. I evidently underestimated the human body.

I figured so. Everything I know about g-force tells me 2g's is relatively simple for us, humans, to adapt to.

I'm going to be so disappointed if there are no dinosaurs on that planet.

I mean.

Why do any of this if there aren't going to be dinosaurs?

Well, any life that lives on that planet would adapt to the gravity of the planet.

I think they mean for us when we eventually **** up this one, and I have to say I agree. Whatever's there will have to move aside, no matter what it is.

We should conquer it.

Well, a thermonuclear rocket with a fuel tank the size of an aircraft carrier could make it there in about 14,000 years, so we could probably make it. Just have to bring lots of crossword puzzles.

What if humans evolved there?

Would they then be our cousins?

I want dinosaurs with lasers in their mouth.

It's the only thing I'll accept.

We should conquer it.

If it has oil... :P

A certain country may actually just do that.
