It's even worse that Kai Leng wasn't properly introduced in the game, BioWare assumed the player read the novels first or something.

Yeah, that was a no-no. I would like expanded universe stuff to ideally stay there. Kahlee Sanders being a minor NPC on one mission wasn't a big deal but when it comes to something like Kai Leng it needs to be built up in the game. The campaigns should be a standalone experience.

Hell in an ideal world Kai Leng's role would have been taken by Miranda.

They did the same in DA:I with Alistair's mother Fiona (the only ex-Warden in the world), Celene, Briala, Michel and Gaspard. Annoyed me to no end that I had to rush through the palace and didn't get enough time to explore it properly... because the writers assumed I read the novels and knew who'd make the best ruler already.

I'm glad I read the books before DA:I.  I put myself in the shoes of someone that had never played the game before, then did Emprise du Lion and the Winter Palace.  I remember thinking, "My gods, a player that didn't read the EU would have zero idea why they should give a damn about any of this."

Yeah...I know this isn't the "basic mistakes" thread, but I despise it when any game developer team assumes the player has read the EU.  Blizzard started doing that with WoW too.  That's one of the several reasons why I quit over 2 years ago.

Yeah.

There was a DA:O book about Loghain too. From what I remember of that game he didn't have much content before you could recruit him which is a problem since you need reasons to do so besides recognizing mechanically that there is a divergent content fork at that point.

Hahah no. Getting rid of that awful talking toaster Caprica is probably the best thing about the destroy ending. If it shows up in ME:A to do more irritating Commander Data impersonations instead of simply downloading some goddamn psychology journals, I will probably burn my copy of the game publicly.

This is like the 3rd thread asking for the blue writer's pet. I'd almost like them to confirm her so her fanbois will shut up at this point.

Should have included Thoughts? in the title.

Here's the supposed leak in it's entirety.  Again, take it with a grain of salt.  Besides, all it takes is one person to ignore/not see a NDA to start a leak.  Bare in mind, this was before BioWare confirmed that we were going to a different galaxy.  Also, note the use of the phrase "far removed by time and space from Commander Shepard."  The ME team used almost those exact words recently and this leak is from back in April.

This is from the story section:

@Natashina

It merely confirms that it will happen in Andromeda. Nothing else is of importance. Time matters not sicne the crew could have been in cryostasis for millenia
You wont be able to go back to the same milkyway and expect to meet the people you knew there, though. That's probably the only part of that other than it happening in Andromeda.

The thing is, it doesn't confirm anything at this point, other than what has been directly stated by the devs.  Like I said in that post, it should be taken with a grain of salt.  I also said in another post that the "leak" could have been put together by someone familiar with BSN's history.  I only noted the similarities between the "leak" and what little we know so far.  The only people that can truly confirm anything is the Mass Effect team.

I don't think you saw one of my follow up posts.  After a few posters pointed it out, I mentioned that cryo stasis was a possibility for some of the named NPCs from the previous trilogy.

http://forum.bioware...2#entry19465713

Due to the devs stressing a separation from Shepard so much, I don't think we'll have any NPCs that were active during the Reaper War on-board the ship/ark.  It's not impossible, and I'm not against the idea happening.

If that's what the ME team decides to do, I'm not going to cry and moan about it.  To be honest, there is a few NPCs I would like to see again aboard the "ark" and if some named NPCs from the first trilogy made it on, then I would personally find that pretty cool.

Any member of the Normandy crew could be dead.  Not even Liara was safe.  She can die in the beam run.  Since the Normandy was on Earth during the end of the Reaper War, and would know how it turned out, the chances of seeing them appear as a cameo are slim-to-none.  I do expect some codex entries, but not a lot else.

I'm not saying that anyone is particularly right or wrong about this, especially me.  Given what little we really know about the game at right now, I don't see the point in getting too heated up.  I don't have a crystal ball anymore than anyone else does.   In any case, this is all just speculation while we wait for the devs to tell us more.  Some folks think the idea would work for ME:A.  Others, including me, don't feel it's a good idea.  So, to each their own there.

It's late, and I'm not going to stress over supposition based on a "leak."  I respect how you and others feel about the subject, even though I don't see eye-to-eye.  That's okay by me, the BSN would be boring if we agreed on everything.  I also enjoy learning different points of view as well.   ;)

I'm not pouring a ton of emotional investment into stuff like this. The only thing I hope for is a good game that everyone can enjoy.  One that's as bug free as possible, that delivers a great story, has engaging combat, good music, and a solid cast of characters.  I'm pretty open minded.   :)

We could conceivably see Liara in newsreel footage, but will probably be the extent of it.

Yeah, I agree with most of the things said, This is a new ME story. I am fine (and fully expect) to leave the other characters out. It would be too hard to appease everyone anyway.

I really hope all this stupid 'ark' crap is just that - a load of crap.

I'm guessing that you were unaware that the word "ARK" is clearly visible in huge white letters in the lower right hand aspect of the destination holoscreen that the character in the trailer is using.

Granted, the existence of A.R.K.C.O.N could have been a coincidence. But a destination labeled "ARK", which is not a star system and was deliberately put there to be visible to fans?

Doubt it.

No to both.  Liara would a middle-aged Asari, and EDI would be obsolete.  I want new characters, not recycled ME1-3 characters.

Perhaps a cameo of sorts.

Picture this. Before the ark ship left it updated their ships computer with the latest Citadel media releases. Upon some some datamining effort we find a photo shoot of EDI in A.I. Glamour. EDI gives Joker full credit for talking her into it after begging her precisely 673 times.

In order for EDI to be in ME:A, there would have to be Synthesis (shudder) for it to happen.  Destroy = she dies , control = she dies (I believe).

I hope there are no callbacks.

The only thing from the Milky Way is what we bring with us on the ark. After that a complete break.

Also, kind of off topic, but I hope there is no big bad in the first game.

Let's us fight for survival. But let's explore the new galaxy before we have one person j charge of saving the life of every sentient being.

I know there is going to be conflict. And combat. But they can keep the stakes smaller to start.

Saving the ark. Establishing a new home. Fighting for the new home and survival. Etc.

EDI lives happily ever after in the Control ending, too.

Sorry to double post but...
Holly crap I thought that was the Citadel (barely glanced at the picture) but your right. It does resemble a space-station/ark, similiar to those depicted in Intersteller (spinning to simulate gravity, artificial sky to simulate day and night cycles, plenty of room for colonists from all races... and an Army to protect them.

I agree. Specifically, it resembles a rough draft of a Bernal Sphere more than anything else (the Presidium was a Stanford Torus design). Both are real design concepts for space stations/ships which the artists of Mass Effect are known to borrow heavily from. N7Jamaican posted a thread about this recently. I'm not sure if its the ark, but I suspect that it probably is - I wrote an extensive post about why elsewhere.
