Genesis 2 is no Dragon Keep

I just recently started playing through the mass effect franchise again, or more specifically mass effect 3.  I haven't played since release and had no inclination to replay through 1 and 2 so I purchased Genesis 2 as I was picking up citadel omega and leviathan.

I had high hopes for this DLC as I had previously experienced the dragon age story builder.

Anyway the point of this thread is not to complain but to get an explanation of how things work.  You get to choose if you do the loyalty missions or not but not how each plays out.  So why do you blow up the heretic base but destroy Maelon's data? I am guessing they are hard coded to always return those choices for a given option on loyalty missions?  Why can you choose to romance someone but only if that someone is Garrus for fem shep?  Does male shep only get to choose tali?  Or is it based on romance choices from 1?  It just seems very poorly thought out, especially seeing what they are capable of with Dragon Age Keep for Inquisition.

Is Genesis 1 worth anything to allow me to skip me1 or is it just as limited as Genesis 2?

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I thought all of the choices in Genesis 1 were already present in Genesis 2.  It's just that Genesis 1 was for importing into ME2 and Genesis 2 is for importing into ME3.

I really didn't like Genesis 2 very much anywhere except for the Wii U, which never got ME1/2 to begin with.  There, it's simply the only way to not have every playthrough start with exactly the same backplot.

Ah, here you go, this lists the exact choices that Genesis gives you:

Yup, it's exactly the same as the ME1-related questions in Genesis 2:

Bear in mind, though, that the Gene'ses' are older than the Keep and were never meant to be as widely used. The Genesis add-on is optional, designed for a trilogy that kept to the same generation of consoles, unlike DA:Inquisition. The Keep, on the other hand, was required for every player who wanted to 'import'.

I can't answer any specific Genesis questions as I've never made use of them, but I just want to add that there's a relatively easy mod you can use for PC to modify saves :) so if you're not on console, I'd recommend Gibbed's save editor for tailoring your ME3 savefile import. You can address every choice, big and small, that way :)

I've never used Genesis 2 but a cursory look at the wiki answers some of your questions.

http://masseffect.wi...Genesis_2#Notes

Heretics and Maelon's data are always destroyed if you choose to resolve rather than ignore conflicts. This isn't so bad for the Heretics considering that destroying them is the superior choice in terms of outcome optimization. However, destroying genophage data is kind of irritating because it locks out some war assets of the genophage arc no matter which way you decide to go there.

As for romances, you get only Tali and Garrus if you choose "stay true to old friends" instead of "moving on", wherein you will unlock Miranda and Jacob. Looks like Jack and Thane are unavailable at all, unfortunately.

Genesis 1's most important choice is whether or not to kill Wrex, because he has a huge impact on how the Genophage arc plays out. There's also the Rachni and Council choices, which have an effect on a mission involving the Rachni and its war asset outcome, as well as the councilors and war assets you get from the Council or elsewhere. You can also choose to begin a relationship with Ash, Kaidan and Liara, though it's not exclusive and you can also start theirs in the 3rd game.

It's best to do a speedrun in ME1 and 2 than Genesis.

See, besides those problems above, it even skips Feros and all the Side Quest Missions in both Games....

Yea my biggest problem is skipping all the DLC in 2 (which I completely forgot about in my original post).  So many useful characters and I just love robin sachs as a voice actor I cannot enjoy my ME3 experience without him.

In combination with a save editor, Genesis 2 works fairly well.
