It seems I have messed up Morrigan's romance. Horribly.

And after finishing Flemeth's Real Grimoire, again, nothing happened.
What did I miss? Flirting?
None of the options you get in the dialogue with Morrigan ever sound openly flirty.
The only one I remember is "You can probe me anytime", but I didn't pick that because I figured she's too smart to fall for a cheap line like that.

It's been a while, but IIRC it triggers when her approval gets high enough. Give her more shinys. ![]()
She likes necklaces and other jewelery. Bohdan sells a necklace gift.

How did you missed it, a cave man could score Morrigan, i raised her approval +51 before even going to the camp, once you arrive at lothering after Ostagar you can initiate a conversation with her, and just approve with her views( mostly about magic and apostates), i believe you could kiss her at that point, once you arrive at camp she'll invite you to her tent, after that you can kiss her and romance her(if you know what i mean) at any time, simple as that.
The thing is if you're in romance with her and have completed her personal quest,
Check the wiki and you're bound to find something.

It already is very high.

Is Lothering important? As in, you should start while you're there?
No i don't think so, the conversation must stay the same, but isn't the natural thing is to talk to your companions immediately after you acquire them, i did it after i killed the highwaymen once arriving lothering, talked to her and alistair before the cutscene.
When did you talk to her the first time? and did you approve her views?

If I recall, the very first opportunity you have to sleep with her is the one where she says right after "hey, don't bring feelings into this, k?" You can either agree with her and just have a fling or mention love and it'll go from there.
There are guides anyway, so...

In the party camp.
Yeah, I did everything that pleases Morrigan. Had an open mind about apostates, agreed with her views, all that.
I've pretty much gone through everything in her dialogue options except for the question about shapeshifting. That's literally the only thing left right now.
Oh, and the one about being lonely. That's still there too. But that one doesn't seem to help things progress either.
Approval? If I get anymore I risk reaching 100 and getting friendzoned for life.
No, it has to be the flirting. What lines are considered flirty? The probing one? Skipped that. "What's in it for me?" when she asks you to search the Circle for the black grimoire? That sounds rude. I'd never have figured it was romantic.
I did choose "You're cute when you're evasive" once, but that apparently didn't count for a damn thing.

did her codex updated to (Morrigan's critical eye is not reserved solely for others, knowing or not, she has a simple fondness for jewelry and is very particular about her appearance)

Well, yes.
That much did happen.
And after you gave her the black grimoire, she didn't invite you to her tent?, maybe you didn't speak to her often and missed something

Spoilers about Morrigan's romance below:
Morrigan's romance can progress even if you only ever give her gifts to raise her approval, flirting with her in dialogues after it maxes. One of my Cousland boys was even romancing Leliana and I completed her personal quest (gathering Flemeth's grimoire) and maxing her affection without ever talking to her. The dialogue immediately following was her "I never knew men and women could be friends" one with one exception. She asked if there could be anything more between my warden and she. I am unsure if you can woohoo with her at this point since she doesn't like getting too close if her approval is too high, but it sure sounded like a romance starter to me. The "Poke you with a stick" I think is a romance starter line, but there are multiple lines in her romance IIRC, so it isn't required to have said that one.
At 51 she has the "I'm cold" conversation, it's the trigger for her to sleep with you. At a certain level of approval she tries to break off the romance and refuses to sleep with you. It could be you raised her approval too high too fast to actually get the woohoo scene, but she may already be in a romance with your warden. Check her status on her character window. Does it say Friend or Care/Love?
All may not be lost this playthrough, if you get the mirror conversation (about the one she stole that Flemeth smashes), you can purchase a replica in Orzammar and that starts the romance as well--with the right dialogue choice. I had one Cousland accidentally start up her romance using it and taking the wrong response.
It may also be your game is bugged. Are you running any incompatible mods?

I'm on the PS3 right now.
But there's something peculiar about the approval part.
I tried everything there was left in Morrigan's dialogue options to no avail, and was ready to start over the game.
Then I maxed out her approval with a gift, which immediately prompted a romantic conversation followed by the sex scene. Even options like the kiss and successful tent invitations became available.
The whole package.
Either people are wrong or the ultimate edition comes with patches that remove that restriction.

How is it even possible to mess up Morrigan romance? She is all over you like a bad rash.

It sounds like it bugged. Bioware wouldn't have removed the restriction altogether because it would alter the character arc entirely on Morrigan (there is a plot reason she refuses to sleep with the warden at that point). Bioware fixed a lot with patches but they left a lot of the misfiring plot flags unaddressed, which is why I won't play the game on console. Without mods I'd have never seen how the game was supposed to play out, as I don't think Bioware intended for it to be a buggy mess. At a higher level approval, Morrigan tries to push you away and break it off. At which point you can either break it off, or insist on the romance, but she won't sleep with you anymore--at least she didn't on the runs I tried to do her romance. Has she given you her present yet?

This was the only time anything went wrong, if sex with Morrigan could be called that. And to my displeasure, she immediately started refusing it when I gained just a little more approval.
But kissing still is available so I got that going for me, which is nice.
The ring? Yep. But speaking of gifts, I've heard there is a point where you can't stop her from breaking up with you, and only the golden mirror gift can restore Morrigan's status back to romance.
On a side note, while I'm happy things sort of worked out, the pacing is terrible. If ever find it in me to play this character again, I'll do it right.

LOL You don't know how buggy it is till you play with mods that fix the misplaced plot flags and broken dialogues. If you never knew, you'd think the game was supposed to be this way. Your play of Morrigan's romance is an example. Obviously, and fortunately for you, her plot flag (her romantic interest) fixed itself, but still, it wasn't supposed to wait till her approval maxes before firing the woohoo scene.
Morrigan at 51 Interested is a very different character from Morrigan at 90-100 Love.
I'm glad it all worked out in the end for you though ![]()
