I've been thinking, what if the races of the Andromeda Galaxy don't use mass effect technology like the denizens of the Milky Way? What if the Andromedans utilize a completely new kind of technology that would be alien to us, runs on something else than eezo?

Few things are central to the setting and theme of mass effect other than, well, the mass effect. Literally almost every aspect of technology in the game is affected by it - from artificially generated gravity, to hovercars, even to toothbrushes.

So I do suspect it will be there and the mass effect technology will be widespread in Andromeda.

However, if there was no cycle there then there should be technology which did not develop as the Reapers intended. So, there should be truly exotic and alien tech that the Milky Way colonists have never seen before.

But I suspect it would be in addition to the stuff that we are familiar with.

They will likely try to go with a mixture of familiarity and exoticness when it comes to tech. Expect botth given the Mako has an eezo core in it.

I'd laugh if the Reapers never really went to "sleep" in between extinctions and instead utilized their time by rotating between 3-6 different galaxies of which Andromeda was a part.

It would be fun to find another Citadel in the Andromeda galaxy if only to give the local aliens a history lesson about where exactly their relays came from...

Element Zero seems pretty critical to having a civilization that is larger than a solar system. Unless there is an element Negative One, I think the Mass Effect will be critical. Who knows, maybe that Dark Matter stuff will come into play. As for Andromeda not having a mass extinction cycle, it seems like they had at least one great cataclysm to make the Remnant disappear.

The ship in the trailer seemed to travel a great distance on its own (unless a Mass Relay was just out of camera).

That or perhaps we discover a Remnant cache early on that enables us to jump great distances.

Then we'll use our superior mass effect based technology to conquer them.

Although I imagine that they'll have mass effect based tech too, since it's the most iconic thing in the series.

I sincerely hopes that actually happens.

The ship in the trailer jumped from one planet or star that was right next to the planet or star they were at. We didn't need Mass Relays for small jumps like that in the Milky Way.

That would be weird if the races in Andromeda used the same tech as MW. They would develop their own way of doing things. It would make it feel like a very small cosmos if so.

I would imagine these species would come up with their own ideas, and approaches. Perhaps they have diff elements that they would process and utilize differently. Perhaps something better than eezo.

They could look at eezo like some primitive crap. Like leeching to release the vapors from the blood. People thought that was all the sth back in the day, but it really wasn't.

Not necessarily. The Remnant could have deliberately vanished. And I suspect they did, with their motives and their return being a major plot point/twist in the game. Especially since the first leak suggested a "guardian" race, advanced in appearance.

I took a look at that trailer again, and it does appear that the N7 character's ship jumps between star systems. As the ship begins slowing down at its destination you can see the parent star of the new destination also zip by to the left of the screen.

I thought so too, but a few people have said both places were the same system so I figured I'd cover my bases.

Andromeda has a lot of black holes, which means a lot of supernovae happened, which means a lot of Eezo. Given that Andromeda obeys the same laws of physics as the Milky Way, it would make less sense for there not to be ME technology in Andromeda than it would for them to have embraced it. I could imagine that the writers would also emphasise an element of repetition; no matter where you go, when you boil it down to basics, civilisations will always behave in largely the same manner.

That would be a great way to ensure that the writing melted down into slag like it did in the first series.

Even guns use ME technology. N7 d00d is waving a Carnifex around in the teaser.

I think there are few ways the Andromeda galaxy will have Mass Effect technology. For example, if the reapers went to Andromeda or if the Leviathans were originally from Andromeda. Otherwise, I think Andromeda will give Bioware a chance to throw in some new technology into the Mass Effect universe.

Reapers created the citadel & relays. By using their technology our civilizations evolve along the paths they desire. Sovereign explains this on Virmire.

Assuming the Reapers have never been to Andromeda it would stand to reason that wildly different technology could exist in Andromeda.

I think the possibilities of two advanced but wildly different technologies battling each other could be very promising.

Then it shouldn't have "Mass Effect" in the title.
