I swear, if Andromeda has the same stability issues than Inquisition...

(Warning: Rant incoming).

Yesterday I bought the Jaws of Hakkon DLC, and I can't even create a new character to play it because the character creation screen crashes five minutes after entering it. Not to talk the amount of random in-game crashes the game has.

If ME:A suffers from the same issue, I'll be done with Bioware.

(Completely crapware-clean W8.1 system, latest Nvidia drivers 353.49).

Check event viewer to get a better idea where the problem lies and report back.

The error message it gives already makes it clear: it "loses connection" to the display driver or something similar. It's a common DX error that a lot of people has.

I've tried updating from W7 to 8.1 with a clean install, the latest drivers, older drivers, play with the graphics settings...and nothing. No matter what I do, it ends up crashing sooner or later.

Is your GPU overclocked at all?  I did some reading and your issue can happen if that's the case.

Also, I found this answer:

finally the solution is here for directx error and desktop crash for dragon age inquisition:

go to nvidia control panel, manage 3d settings, program settings, select dragon age inquisiton, and set for it:

maximum pre-rendered frames: 1,
multi-display/mixed-gpu acceleration: single display performance mode,
power management mode: prefer maximum performance,
vertical sync to adaptive, save, run the game

in game setting set full screen and uncheck vsync, now no more crash. Note that you must set in the game full screen mode and not window full screen, regards

Here's another one, from the EA answers thread about this.  I hope it helps:

http://answers.ea.co...ror/m-p/4036225

My Solution!

I have 2 GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost cards in Sli configuration; using drivers version 344.75.  I was suffering from this crash/error on multible occasions (cutscenes and the war room.)  The game was unplayable.

I searched for solutions and tried many of them (reloading drivers, reinstalling VC, turning off Ambient Occlusion, lowering my GPU Mhz, etc...)  None fixed my error, although some resulted in having the error less often, but only somewhat playable if I skipped through cutscenes as quickly as possible, but still unable to use the war room (since you can't skip.)

*After doing the following, I have had over 3 days of uninterupted gameplay through many long cutscenes and uses of the war room.*

Using Nvidia's Geforce Experience as a guide, I set my graphic settings to the recomended optimal settings.  They are as follows:

Ambient Occlusion              SSAO

Display Mode                       Full-screen

Effects Quality                       Low

Graphics Quality                  Custom

Mesh Quality                         High

Multisample Anti-Aliasing  Off

Post-process Anti-Aliasing High

Post-process Quality           Medium

Resolution                             1920x1080

Resolution Scale                  100

Shadow Quality                     Medium

Terrain Quality                       Medium

Tessellation Quality              Off

Texture Quality                      Low

Vegetation Quality                Medium

Water Quality                         High

Now, the graphics are noticeably worse than they were when I had the settings at High/Ultra, but not bad.  I have not tried to increase any of the above to see if I can improve graphics and not get the error (why mess with a good thing.)  All I can say is I LOVE THIS GAME and have been enjoying it without incident since I used those settings.  Moreover, this worked for me and my setup (with factory overclock included!)  I hope that if you are using the 650 Ti Boost this will work for you, or if you are using a different card, you can install Geforce Experience and try the recommended optimal settings to get the game to work for you.

*Note:  I did have to manually make the changes, the program could not make the changes for me.

Good Luck and Happy Gaming!!

I also hope it won't crash as much. DAI still has hard freezes after half year and it happens on consoles as well so I doubt it has anything to do with hardware and software, the game just is unstable. I have to reboot console and restore system everytime it crashes which is annoying and time consuming. I have never had game that has as much stability issues as DAI on console and I wonder if frosbite is the issue which could mean that ME:A will have similar problems as well unless Bioware has learned to use engine better.

Huh. DAI had major stability issues when they released it, but now it became much better. I had zero problems playing recently.

As a side note, I'm 100% sure there will be the same story with ME:A.

I remember my ONE issue with DA: I was studder during cutscenes. After 1st patch it was gone. No problems since. ;)

Of course I play on Xbox One though :P

Get out of here you console pleb. You're stinking up the thread with your console peasantry.

@OP: Have you manually unlocked the cutscene FPS (so that it runs cutscenes at 60 FPS instead of 30)? If so, then that's what is causing your crash. For some reason the character creation menu becomes unstable when you do that.

The more time they have with the engine, the more the stability will increase I would assume. I personally haven't had many crashes, and most of my issues have been with MP.

So much pathetic console peasanty here. Jealous of our superior platforms? :D Yes, of course you are. But of course, you get scared of even the most innocent red light that appears in your potato 'systems': it's normal then that you can't run fast enough when a more serious problem appears.

So shoo, simple-minded peasants, and stop bothering the grown-ups.

Oh well, back to topic...the stability issues are Frostbite-based (for what I've read). Again, I've tried a lot of solutions (yes, driver settings included), and none worked so far. Heck, I shouldn't even be touching those settings. I run games that have every right to be way more unstable (Skyrim + more than a hundred mods + ENB profile as the best example), and they're rock solid :P

Oh well, I already have a workaround in mind anyway....(the main problem is in the character creation, so...).

If Andromeda is only on present gen we should have much less issues.

It will help that they're going to ditch last gen systems since that means not trying to develop and optimize the thing on 5 different platforms, 2 of which are vastly inferior from a hardware standpoint from the other 3.

Well, so far I've never run a game as unstable as DA:I. It's a first....and hopefully a last.

I only hope they polish the engine in ME:A's case.

Yeah, let's hope that's the issue...

Funny that you don't mention the other two as "vastly inferior", too (as they are xD).

Actually DAI ran butter smooth for me. At first. It had some hiccups but it was basic modern game hiccups nothing unexpected.

It was the patches that screwed everything up.

The more they tried to fix...the worse it ran.

But my game ran fine at first. *shrug*

I don't complain about FPS or smoothness (in fact, the benchmark runs at 27 'cinematic'* FPS at 1680x1050 "Ultra" settings with an old GTX 560 Ti). It's only the DX crashes the ones that get to my nerves. And they're especially annoying and frequent at the character creation menu.

The little hiccups I had went away as soon as I changed my old HDD for a Samsung SSD 850 Pro.

*Console peasanty sarcasm intended.

I crashed at the character creation menu only twice (once when I alt tabbed LIKE AN IDIOT) and the second time after patching (and I raged so hard).

... As someone who has spent last two weeks trying to fix messed up software of my brand new laptop (since blue screen of death killed my last 2 years old one..) and waiting with horror what is next problem that comes up and how in the world I manage to fix that- instead of spending my summer playing on my trusted and loyal PS3, that has worked 5 years now without problems, I very much don't agree with your statement..

But I guess I hope your statement was just a joke and there is no need to continue this ridiculous debate over platforms.
