So it seems Human is the best Fashion-Age choice?

I love to play Elves in most RPGs, however, I noticed in this game that the vast majority of aesthetically pleasing armor (Templar Armor for example) tend to be Human-Specific.

Is this correct? I'm only in the beginning of the game, so I don't mind re-rolling a Human Mage instead of the Elf Mage I currently have.

TLDR: Do Humans pretty much have most of the coolest looking armor?

Thank you so much in advance for your time :)

Elven Mage and Rogue Armours are pretty nice, Warden Armor is nice and on every race. But apart for that the best armors Superior Vanguard/Prowler/Enchanter have the same look for every race.

If you're playing elf then you should be ok. Dwarves and qunari have it the worst.

For elves specific armor you get something like that:

Spoiler

I know you you're playing mage, but since with right materials you can remove class restrictions I'm listing all armor types.

But to tell the truth - humans definitely win in 'armor variety' category.

Very helpful, thank you. It seems there are a couple nice looking Dalish armours but it seems I was on the right track in thinking Humans have it the best.

Glad I realized this early in the game. Loving it so far btw!!!

Also, I'm assuming:

Superior Vanguard = Warrior

Superior Prowler = Rogue

Superior Enchanger = Mage

These are the best armours in the game stat-wise, correct?

Anyone else have any more info or opinions regarding which race to play when it comes to armor? I'm looking at Humans or Elves specifically and starting to lean more towards Human for the armor reason

You are correct. But you need to have in mind that each class gets three types of schematics. Coat, mail and armor. They look different and use different materials in crafting (which results in different stats).

For vanilla game the best is Superior Battlemage (coat, mail or armor) for mages, Superior Prowler (coat, mail or armor) for rogues or Superior Battlemaster (coat, mail or armor) for warriors. Those are tier 3 schematics.

Jaws of Hakkon DLC added tier 4 schematics which you can buy.

Thank you so much. I am so impressed with the amount of positive, helpful people among the members of this forum.

Also, what is the difference between, as well as the situations in which you might use Coat instead of Mail, or Armor vs Coat etc etc...?

Are they used in place of each other or in combination?...is there one thats generally better than the others? ie: Coat usually used over Mail?

Anyone mind elaborating as best they can?

They are separate armors and cannot be used together.

Main difference is their look. Here are all three tier 3 armors next to each other:

Then there comes stat difference. For mage tier 3 schematics uses:

So which armor you choose depends on what kind of mage your character will be and which specialisation you'll choose.

Also I forgot to mention that when you loot armor you'll have one look assigned to it. More precisely:

- When you play mage and put looted mage armor on your character it'll always look like coat.

- When you play rogue and put looted rogue armor on your character it'll always look like armor.

- When you play warrior and put looted warrior armor on your character it'll always look like mail.

I hope those informations are useful.

Incredibly useful. Thank you for clearing all of that up. The loot and inventory system is much less daunting now

Meh, I wasn't that impressed by the human armor. Quantity is not the same as quality, and humans have got some fugly race-specific armors, especially the prissy Orlesian ones.

Besides you can't add arms or leg pieces to race-specific armors.

Well, the only good looking armor for warrior inquisitors is the mail version, which is why I think that all the armor found for warrior has that look on the inquisitor.

I wish the armor looked the same on the inquisitor as it does on the NPC's.

It always seems to look different (and better) on Cassandra or Blackwall than on a female or male inquisitor.

I have to agree with you on that one, Cassandra looks pretty incredible in her Superior Vanguard Mail i just bought for her. Anything for my lovely lady (totally not in love with a CG videogame character...psh  ...... ;) )
