I demand more fat people in video games so society can't escape the horrors of our mundane reality!

Honestly the larger versions seem more approachable and less like to fight off any average guys advances.

Of course Rikku would be more approachable. How else could she lure you in to devour you? (I looked at all of them. Rikku is the worst of the lot)

The problem with some of these redesigns are the Final Fantasy characters who are teens, many teenage girls do have slim figures so it's not unrealistic at all for them. I don't know what would be wrong with simply making them look like they weighed an average size instead of putting chubbiness on them. Or perhaps realize that women are all different shapes and sizes just like men?

As another poster pointed out we men don't exactly get good treatment in video games either. All the protagonists have the bodies of Adonis and faces to match too but you don't see us men complaining that we aren't built like Kratos or Marcus Fenix. I remember people complaining that the female character in Original Sin was skinny, well the male character was built like the incredible ****** Hulk for God's sake. How can us average Joe's even compare to that? Yeah some of us here may work out but I doubt anyone here is a miniature ****** Hulk.

For me the best game that did diversity well was Dragon's Dogma. In that game, you had custom made NPC's of all different sizes, heights and even ages. More games should take note from that but if you want to be realistic and have a fat character as the main role then he sure as hell better not be doing ninja flips and running up walls! If he does then I expect him to slowly loose that weight over the course of the game if you want "realism."

You mean by more "realistic" of course they mean more like the average American woman.

Videogames do need more freedom tbh.

Honestly disgusting.

I will never accept the glorification of overweight people and the demonization of those who are healthy and fit.

Some times, I really don't understand how north americans think. Cause were I come from, not taking care of your health and eating irresponsibly is a bad thing. There, many people seem to treat it like the second coming of Jesus.

The middle of an obesity epidemic probably isn't the time for this kind of thing.

I was wondering when this was going to hit BSN.

In either case while I get what they're trying to do, I think that telling people they're fine as is when they're overweight is just as bad as encouraging everybody to be underweight levels of thin.

Neither weight levels are healthy for you to be at. We should encourage that everybody have healthy weight.

You guys are reasonable compared to the Andromeda forums.

Personally, I think this is just a poorly executed idea. But, the intent is noble. They're trying to get awareness of behavioral problems involving eating. The pathology of warped self-image have dire health consequences, and that you don't have to strive to achieve media perfection just to have self-worth.

But, this is an age-old battle that started a long, long time ago.

Meh, hysterical landwhales are triggered by athletic body types.

Also why the hell is Lara and Cortana chubby? Lara is an adventurer/gunfighter/robber and Cortana is an AI!

I see plenty of women like the OP's example.

But I live in Texas...which is one of the fattest states. I'd hate to think that this is normal. There was even a time HERE when it wasn't that bad.

And so here we go

Forbes link

t’s not that women—or men for that matter—don’t have lots of different body sizes. Quite the contrary. It’s just that pretending that one is “

realistic” while another is, presumably, “unrealistic” is actually pretty offensive.

What it amounts to is thin-shaming. Or if not quite that, then at least picking favorites. If it is abnormal to be thin and fit, we should ask whether it ought to be. If fat-shaming is wrong (and it is) then thin-shaming is, too. And if physically fit women (and men) aren’t the norm, that’s probably because we as a society don’t place enough value on physical fitness. And we should. This is a country that’s pretty much cut all of its physical education programs from public schools. That’s a pretty huge problem.

Pretty much.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to call the photoshopped Cortana "chubby" it just looks like they broadened her rib cage. Perhaps to portray body diversity? Some people really are just big boned.

It's probably already been said, but yeah, this is silly, even though I do get what they were trying for. I mean, Lara Croft for one is a gymnastic, athletic, rock climbing, back flipping adventurer. What in the hell sense does it make for her to have an 'average' body.

And I'll also point out that if they used the average American female body for this, that also means many women are actually skinnier than this, which we all knew anyway. So it's not like they're being inclusive of all "real" women everywhere.

Again, I get what they're trying to do, but no. The terrible quality of some of those shops is probably what's making me angry tbh. If they wanted to do it better maybe it would've been nice to do a range of body shapes instead of taking the blanket average of one of the countries known for its obesity epidemic, no?

How about they only have chubbier characters where it makes some damn sense. Like Eunice from Rune factory or Nadia from the Reject Demon: Toko.
