Always loved how they say "Unrealistic " but when you look at  some of the cosplayers.... yeah.

*snip*

Where does she get her body glitter?
I'm all out.  I clearly need a few extra tons.

Sooo, a bunch of people who made themselves deliberately ugly want to make fictional characters ugly so they feel better?

You know what the problem with society is nowadays? People screw up and want to live with their screwed up lives instead of fixing things, and society has to accept those screwed up ways of living  as ''normal'' to not to hurt their feelings. That's nothing but weakness, and accepting weakness as normal hurts society as a whole. We are supposed to improve ourselves, not degenerate.

We need a worldwide power blackout or meteorite impact or some other sort of major catastrophe to get people back on track, seems like the lack of the daily fight for survival and the relative peace and security drives people into madness.

(The last line may or may not be 100% serious)

Oh please, at least here in America more people than ever before are trying to eat right and exercise, 10-15 years ago going to the gym was something for vain people with nothing better to do - eating right was for jerks who can't enjoy life.

All female game characters need to have acne, cellulite, stretch marks, greying roots and varicose veins too. Can't have them body shaming those poor sensitive women IRL after all.

I think I have all those things, as well as being a lard-arse. It never really occurred to me to think that female video-game characters are "too thin", even though I prefer women to be curvy. My only annoyance is that my own body hates me and won't lose the pounds when I hit it with dieting and exercise, bastard that it is, but that's another matter entirely. I will happily moan about bikini armour though: mostly just because it's absurd.

I don't want to sound like a smartass, but if you lose more energy than you get through food its impossible not to lose any weight. Calculate your energy requirements, your intake and your loss from exercise. If there is a negative number at the end you will lose weight no matter what. Stick to it until you've reached your ideal weight. If you really want to lose weight you absolutely can.

Also about eating right, I eat trash, sweets, fatty foods and all the stuff you should not be eating but lose all the excess calories in my daily exercise. It allows me to pig out and not be bothered with fat. Heck, I have a lot of muscle mass that sucks calories even when I'm sleeping or playing video games.

I think it's more complicated than that. I've gone through extended periods where I've averaged well under 2,000 calories per day (yes, I have counted them carefully), typically averaged at least 30 minutes of stair-walking daily and so on and still not managed to lose weight in spite of being two stone overweight. On the other hand, I've known people who eat like pigs all the time and haven't done anything resembling exercise in years who are stick-thin. I can actually feel my body shutting down when I try to make the bastard burn off fat. At least I am actually quite fit, in spite of having "metabolic syndrome" according to my doctor, whatever that is.

Plus it seems like a brilliant weight loss plan!

That's what this thread is about now, right?

I'm in your camp of never getting enough to eat, that said it varies person to person - the body loves habits and whether you're obese and trying to lose weight or skinny and trying to put on weight it tends to like to go back to whatever the mean is. The unfortunate thing is that the mean is often established when you're growing up and in your 20's, after 30 it's significantly harder to change your body. That said it can be done.

I was really skinny in my teens; slightly podgy in my 20s; then put on loads of weight in my 30s after I got depressed and did a lot of comfort eating. Now I probably eat less and certainly exercise more than in my late teens and 20s but my body seems to have decided it kinda likes being spherical. Did I mention it's a bastard?

Something tells me they wouldn't be so keen to get rid of all the men with perfect bodies in games. Body acceptance is absolute bs that's all about trying to get men to lower their standards, while women get to keep theirs.

What they did to Rikku is an abomination.

No, stop. This isn't a gendered issue.

It kind of is, all of these "fat acceptance" campaigns are incredibly gynocentric. I've never seen one that focuses on men.

You're willfully blind if you think gender has nothing to do with it. All this fuss is always about the representation of women in media. This is about female video game characters. The "beach body" ads from a few months ago was about a fit woman being used on a poster, and on and on.

The only man who I find that remotely talks about fat acceptance is boogie2988, and he's mostly asking people not to be mean to him. He doesn't, however, go on about changing representations of men or pretend that he doesn't have health issues.

It's not gendered because women aren't the only ones who can become disgustingly fat. Body acceptance, the way it's been perpetrated as of late, is a total scam and is dangerous to everybody who takes part in it, not just women.

My point is that all of these campaigns, whether they be in clothing stores, videogames, TV adverts, film all seem to promote fat acceptance specifically for women. Have you ever seen a "This is what a real man looks like" ad?
