1. The game ended when Shepard barely escapes Harbinger's death ray. From that point on we're just wrapping up the story. It's all on how the player wants the story to end. Bioware had no intention of coming back to the Shepard story so the ending was moot. It's not like anything from that point on helps us anymore, we're basically just on a tread mill that will take us without detour to the final decision.

2. The ending matters and we're all going to be upset when Bioware comes back after they finish their Andromeda storyline. but, hey, we might have new heroes to root for and we won't care as much if Shepard got it wrong and three of our four choices ended up with everyone harvested.

2a. Seems to me Shepard went to the citadel to push a button that was going to destroy the reapers. Get to the end and either you push the button or you don't. why wouldn't you?

2b. Enter catalyst who gives you some reasons not to push the button, even gives you the option of pushing some other buttons. What's the purpose of these other buttons? Answer: to not push the original button.

2c. Look at this way. 3 of the 4 choices allow the reapers to live. The catalyst is arguing for you to choose any option other than pushing the original button. By their own argument Reapers have one purpose just as fire burns, Reapers harvest.

2d. Mass Effect characters have lied to you before, why would you believe the catalyst is trustworthy; because it looks like an innocent child and makes arguments about peace and harmony and we'll all get along just fine afterwards.

2e. A good portion of the game was about making tough choices. You make choices that will mean the death of some so that others can live. In the end, that's what the choice was about I think. Can you knowingly make the call that will guarantee the death of some so that others can live, or did you crumble and look for a way out.

I suspect the ending was something far different from what we actually witnessed (and yes I destroyed the reapers, even though that doesn't actually mean I actually destroyed them because i'm sure Bioware has some weird plan for your choices not being what you thought they were.)
