The devs have said that he love interests from ME will play a very important role in ME3. Let's hope they make good on their word.

In some recent interview, the Bioware people mentioned that those who stay true to their ME1 romantic partner would get some kind of bonus in ME3 (presumably to make up for the lack of a romance in ME2).
This would be awesome. I know a lot of folks are miffed about the seemed exclusion of Ash, Kaidan and Liara in ME2. I for one think it makes perfect sense for the story (even though I miss them too), but I also desperately want some awesome conclusion in ME3.

Interestingly, Liara has far more of a role then either Kaidan or Ashley. You can spend time with her, and help her with her own work.
This seems to confirm what some have said about Liara being a much more important character in the long run.

Thanks Badpie and Stravinsky00...answers my question perfectly! I thought I read somewhere if you aren't true to your partner from the first ME1 there would be consequences...just wanted to make sure before I do a complete playthrough.
If you're really curious about what you're missing with the new love interests, just look up their scenes on YouTube. I wanted to stick with Kaidan from the beginning, but seeing the Garrus, Thane, and Jacob scenes just strengthened my resolve to never get the "Paramour" achievement. Heavens forbid I become one of the "statistics" proving to Casey Hudson that we don't care about the ME1 LIs.

LOL especially since its clear that they're data mining us (look at the Online options on ME2 - they're probably recording everyones decisions to know what to focus on more later on.... Well, my Shep is gay and that's what *I* will communicate to Bioware!)

That would be quite stupid to pigeon-hole anybody who has the Paramour achievement as a "cheater" so to speak. I've got 4 different saves for ME1 with Ash, Kaidan, Liara, and Single. I will get the achievement with my single Shepard and if I get screwed over because I have the Paramour achievement then that will be lame. Single Shepard can sleep with whomever he wants!

Liara is actually one of the few characters I already have pegged as a squad member for ME3. Simply for the fact that A) she can't die in ME1 so she's in everyone's ME2 and
Since anyone of your squad members can die in ME2 I doubt we'll be seeing any of them return (which is a shame because I grew attached to Tali, Mordin and Legion), so I figure that they'll bring back Liara.

So it's not possible to mack on Miranda and still end up getting Ashley? Thats too bad, because I dont think I can wait till ME3 for her
NO ONE KNOWS
It's quite possible that this is a design decision that hasn't even been MADE yet.
I suspect Bioware will give you the chance to pick. (There would be a certain irony to be Ashley being the "new" romance option in ME3 as you rekindle the old flame...)

If they're not squad members I'm sure they'll play large roles.. like imagine Legion just being left off to rust. Ha, NEVER.
Miranda is still closely connected the the story even when ME2 is finished. If these characters can't join you, I'm sure they'll have more than bit roles like LIs have in ME2.

Yeah, if they survive in your game then I'm sure they'll show up in ME3, but you never quite get the same experience with an NPC that you do with a squad member. With a squad member they're dialog is updated several times and you get more of a backstory.
I'm eager to see what Bioware does. I applaud them for having the possibility of any squad member dying, however I think they shot themselves in the foot a bit (didn't they say that part of the reason Tali and Garrus returned was because of fan reaction to those characters?).

Which makes me sad, because it's pretty long odds against seeing any ME2 squadmate in ME3. (It's entirely possible that having a squad with Morden and Wrex would be too much awesome.)

Impossible. You would put them in your squad and the game disk would catch on fire from sheer awesome and your 360 would red ring/PC would get the BSoD.
That's true about Tali and Garrus thing. Everyone else could either die or was a love interest. Hopefully the cast for ME3 is as interesting as they made the one for ME2.

Same for me. I have 3. My mostly Renegade Male shep who really just banged ashely as an "heat of the moment thing" (forgive me lol)
My Paragon Femshep who is love with kaiden and will not hook up with any of the new LIs
Then a single femshep who is deeply torn between all three new love LI's. They are all so awesome.

1. I want to remain loyal 2 Kaidan on one file but I'm not sure how. Is it as simple as not jumping in the sack with the LI's and have neautral relationships with them. If i dont sleep with them would it affect my loyality with them?
2. For the second file. I want to try my luck with one of the new LI's for variety. I am leaning more towards garrius because he was my favorite team member (along with wrex) and because we defeated savren together and all. But from what i seen from the vid's it seems Jacob and Thane gain a more emotional relationship with your femshep. But Garrius agrees to persue the relationship because he needs to "blow off some steam". Which bothers me! I don't do flings!

One thing I will say for the Garrus romance is that it is different from the others in that it's not as romantic. It's very clear that Garrus and Shepard are more friends than romantic interests. BUT it's also very sweet and it is clearly two people who have great respect for each other and really care about each other a lot. I found it refreshing and adorable even though I find the thought of romancing Garrus in general kind of weird.

plays off his "serious feelings" with humor (heck I should have recognized this trait! I'm engaged to that type of guy lol)
Again I agree with you, It is a nice change since not every guy recites those lovely, overdone romantic speeches (Thane/Jacob,lol). Even though those are the sexpots that makes me swoon lol
Thanks for the help! Now I'm off to save humanity and get some Turian loving on the side<3
*Edit* LOL My browser butchered my reply. Ugh, sorry, I tried to fix it.
