I wouldn't be against a novel. I think there's room for it - since it seems that Andromeda will be taking place IN Andromeda almost exclusively, why not see some of the origins of how and why this effort is being mounted NOW, when the Citadel races have only explored a generous one percent of the Milky Way, and how they're getting there, and all that. Best of all is that it can entirely side-step Andromeda's protagonist, and focus on a major NPC, like the first book did with Anderson and Saren.

I mean, the game can focus on the conflict between Milky Way and Andromeda races, while the novel can explore the hows and whys of the mission that brought them there. It's a way to include this pretty important information while still not bogging down the game in a whole bunch of 'as you know...' dialogue where characters go over things that they in-universe should already know, but need to offer the audience. Streamline that detailed exposition down to a few lines and you get the details the audience needs to understand offered in game and a deeper explanation out there in the form of a novel.

Hell, they could even stick with the current naming scheme for the other books and call it 'Exploration.' I don't see why they wouldn't pounce on this.

I would enjoy it, but I don't feel like it should be mandatory reading in order to fully understand the game's plot and characters. When I played the Winter Palace section in DAI, for example, I thought "damn it's a good thing I read  The Mased Empire first, or I would have no idea who the major political players are, and no understanding of why I should care."

My only concern is if they bring in characters from a novel into the game.  I'm beginning to notice that the BioWare teams aren't always very good about fleshing out those EU characters in the game.  Examples I can think of include Kai Leng, Loghain (unless you recruited him,) Briala, Celene, Gaspard, Michel and Imshael.  Cole suffered from this too to a smaller extent, with the only real demonstration of his past shown during his personal quest.

I'm fine with a novel, but if they bring in a EU character, I don't want them to just be plopped into the game with little-to-no characterization shown.

As long as they don't hire Dietz again.

R U referring to William C. Dietz?

I read a number of his sci-fi books including his sci-fi military novels. Legion of the Dammned stands out. He also wrote HALO 1 the Flood, which I liked.

Yes, the book should not impact the players experience.  Meaning, if the player chooses not to read it, they won't miss crucial pieces of information.

Personally I doubt we'll see anything until after the game is out but after that who knows.
