OMG! My Character Over-XP'd! What to do?

BW, NextArishouk30u8 brought this up recently (gooud shouw ould chap!).  There is definitely some agreement in the community.  When a character reaches lvl20, there is often a bunch of XP lost in cyberspace, which our level 1 characters thinks is not in the Inquisition's best interests.

I like the idea of using that XP towards leveling up the newly promoted character.

1. Any XP earned beyond level 20 can be immediately applied to the promoted character (credit: NextArishouk30u8)

An idea popped into me brain over the weekend.

My additional ideas:

2. Any XP earned beyond level 20 can be applied to any character (rather than just the promoted character)

3. Any XP earned beyond level 20 is put into an XP pool which may be distributed by the player to any character/s

3a. Option - No limit on how much pooled XP can be applied to any chosen character/s

3a. Option - Limit XP level up to level 5 per chosen character

Anyhow, just some ideas to bounce around.  BW, it would be great if we could use the extra XP generated beyond level 20 to use to either level up characters from level 1 a bit faster, and perhaps even to apply to a character close to 20 to finish up leveling that character.

I don't think this would be good for the game.  Having to go through the one Routine run it takes to get to level 4-5 ensures there's always a pool of players hanging around Routine, which makes it more likely for new players to find a game with others and maybe stick around, so increasing the total player population.  The process you're advocating means pretty much all long-term players will hang around Perilious and above, farming prestiege between bouts of signing in here to this forum complaining about how boring farming is.

I see your point.  How about this would be more useful for new players, applicable to prestige level (x)?

My level 1's go straight to perilous after the armor upgrade. Even before that i went immediately to Threatening. No reason to do Routine except for fun (?!). I often find new players on perilous these days. Maybe Routine is dead already.

To be more on-topic, I have to agree with the OP. I don't like the idea either to reset my character immediately after having him maxed. I'd like to play at least it once on level 20 without wasting exp. Anything is fine here, which can be:

1. Bring the over-exp in the next level of the played class or other than the played class with or without a limit (limit should be reasonable though)

2. Depending on your successful extractions give the newly promoted class a higher level. (someone in the forums suggested this, to lazy to search for the name :o)

3. Bring the over-exp in the next level of the played class or other than the played class without a limit but lower the gained experience on pre-defined thresholds, like 5% after 5000 earned over-exp.

Are you talking about getting more XP on your final run than you need to level up, and the remainder is wasted? I'm pretty sure every RPG ever does that. Nothing worth bothering the programmers over for a new feature when they could be doing something so much cooler.

If you limited the cap to lvl 3 instead of 5 I agree

-start with Shield Bash

-Start with Fade Shield

-Start with Elegant Defense keeper

-Start with upgraded Immolate

would increase fun without making it exploitable

Yep, that's really all I'm looking at, as are others.  I tend to go directly to Threatening with my Lvl1s, and a few extra points off the get go would be helpful.  Even 3 pts to spend could be helpful.  Other RPG's may not do this, and that is fine.  DAIMP can be different, and doesn't hurt to at least toss some ideas around.

This is all cake and eat it syndrome.

I want my promotions and play with maxed characters at the same time.

You sacrifice maximum power for gaining greater stats or you enjoy the power for however long THAT is the choice.

Losing a little XP when reaching lvl 20 in a match really isn't deserving of a "fix" and storing it up for next time isn't a sacrifice for promoting its lazy. If you want uber stats then you should work for it and part of the penalty is being gimped at first.

I mean come on one Threatening match will get you to level 8 or so if your friends carry you through Perilous that's level 10 how hard is that really?

Nothing to do with "difficult."  Obviously it is not a difficult thing.  Could it really hurt though?  Just a nice to have thing.

I can see a potential mechanism for an exploit if points can be allocated as you desire. Want to progress characters fast - keep one at level 20 and allocated points to recently promoted characters. See them zoom up levels. When they get to 20 decide which will stay there. Promote the rest and repeat.

Agreed.  There should be some sort of balance/limitations so it cannot be exploited.  I could live without it, but since NextArishouk30u8 (damn yo!) brought it up, I'd love to see something like this implemented.  I do not want anything implemented that would become an exploit.  The grind is still the grind, this just makes it a wee bit less painful.

Heck, perhaps take extra XP and turn it into gold.  That would do also.  Hmmm...  *scratches chin in deep thot, while slightly nodding 'yes..yes...'*
