Keyboard and Mouse should be on PC.  You can build a powerful PC for the same price as a console.  LinusTech has proved this.

Provided that sort of hobby suits any particular user. Me, I refuse to own a desktop computer of any kind, and I'd never go near a gaming laptop, so it's consoles forever.

It's still not his job to do with programming the controls for the game.

                                                                            <<<<<<<<<<()>>>>>>>>>>

I apologize if I was unclear.

Mike as Director has the authority to tell his underlings to program a proper KB+M controls for the desktop PC, which he failed to do with DAI. These issues have been expressed many times in the DAI forum "PC Community Concerns" created by Bio, of all things. Then, Bio, left the forum to let the fans stew in their own juices.

So, yes, it's not his job to program. It is his job, however, to ensure hardware platform control devices are properly programmed for the game. BTW, most of us agreed that the KB+M controls worked fine in DA:O and DA2. But, for some reason, Mike et al, figured short changing the controls would be OK with us.

Anyway, that is in another forum for a different game.

It should mean that more attentions should be paid toward the desktop input device controls when designing a game.

For example: Elite: Dangerous support HOTAS joystick controls (avionics), keyboard, mouse and multiple screens.. three in fact.  Add an onboard head mounted camera as another input device. So, you can play the game in the centre screen, pan to the left monitor with the camera to select menu items or the monitor on your right for weapon selection menues... without leaving the action screen in the centre.

Elite is a game that takes all available input device controls and integrates them into one cohesive ensemble for unparallel gameplay.  in the future we will have Virtual Reality headgear which is another display device . Marry that with hand gestures and you just brought gaming to a different level.

If Bio just wishes to use controllers as game control devices, that's their future loss. Microsoft with Windows 10 will bring the desktop and XB1 together with players playing the same MMO game using both platforms at the same time.  Of course, this requires that the game is developed for all device input controls. A game poorly ported to another platform will soon expose its weakness to the publisher's embarassment. In this case, I give you Batman: Arkham Knight, which WB was forced to pull from the stores for an unexceptional disastrous PC launch. A game designed for the console and oh, so poorly. poorly ported to the PC platform.

Triple A games will probably never be designed to work on an optional gimmick control scheme.  If the mouse and keyboard thing was to shock me greatly by being a huge success you might see it supported by the next major BioWare tittle, but at this point there's almost no chance they would make that switch this late into development.

If I'm wrong I'll be glad to admit of course, but I would not put any money on that unlikely scenario.  Plus a controller is the best way to play Mass Effect games in my book anyway.

I'm not saying ME:A will support such an idea. Too late for it anyway. However, EA does have an internal VR development/testing unit. With VR you need hand gesture commands. Elite: Dangerous already supports voice commands.

With Microsoft planning on multi-platform gaming (ie: PC + Xb1+ mobile)  gaming companies would be foolish to ignore this market space. If not willing, competitive pressures will force EA's hand.

Think five years down the road.

On the contrary.

I am hoping that this news will spurr Bio management to ensure that ME:A game controls are properly done for both consoles and KB+M. Plus, for competitive purposes that future game design will automattically include proper desktop device controls.... complete mouse key remapping as an example.

Inquisition was a very rare unique ****. They made an action game for consoles and the controller's control functions were ported to mouse&keyboard even the top-down view scheme was a carbon-copy of the controller scheme with the same functions - very inferior to a mouse. They had no intention of making a good top-down rpg with appropriate m&kb controls in the first place despite of making famous videos like "bypcgamersforpcgamersb.s.". Im sorry but you are reaching here with this console mouse&keyboard stuff. ME:A will be a console game in and out with controller support first and foremost, only this time it will be harder to make a total **** for PC because its a shooter. You need to try really hard to mess up a shooter for a mouse. Whatever the co. pe.-s say fps/tps meant to be played with that. I think Andromeda will be a 100 times better with m&kb than Inquisition - even if the Inquisition fetch quest manufacturer brigade joined the team.

It simulates a mouse like feel but it's still not actually a mouse precision-wise, camera control is still time based.

It's really just a unique controller layout for all intensive purposes.

For me it depends on what game I'm playing. For racers I stick with keyboard. With games like Fifa I tend to go with controller and with pretty mkuch everything else it's a combination of keyboard and mouse.

Mike is the Creative Director. The control scheme isn't creative content. You're probably thinking of Mark Darrah.

Oh, and I disagree that DA2's KBM controls were adequate. I think DAI's are superior (though DAO's were better, and BioWare hasn't come close to matching the excellence of controls and UI that was NWN).

KBM support is just about the only thing that would get me to play console games, though I'm still generally opposed to closed systems (which is why I've never owned an Apple product).

This isn't the same thing at all, trust me. It's just an expensive controller taking another form with some placebo elements.

I disagree. ME's mapping of everything to a single context-sensitive button is horrific, mouselook notwithstanding.

In what world does it make sense to have sprint, take cover, and climb all be the same button? What if you want to do one where another is possible?

ME3's PC controls frustrate me far more than DAI's ever did.

I won't believe it's proper KBM support until I can provide my own keyboard and mouse.

I have no desire to continue trading punches, with you or Elhanan, over the proper KB+M DAI controls. That discussion is better left in the DAI "PC Community Concerns" thread, now closed by Bio.

The PS4 and XB1 KB+M announcement, however, presents an interesting challenge for Mike and Mark with the next DA game, if there is even a next game at all.  Since other non EA triple AAA titles will be developed for those two platforms any one of them that implements a good KB+M game mechanics will be used as a comparion with those that don't. Which is where the competitive pressure comes in.

Regardless of what that article says, I will stick with a console and when the time comes where I have to have a pc to play games, I will worry about it at that time.

I need a multi-purpose machine and a console is really limited to one function.

You can't program math models or plain Assembler or C++ programming with a consoles or controllers. Besides, my gaming leans away from strictly button smashing shooters or fighting games like the Street Fighter series.  So, any piece of software that purports to run on a PC better make sure it supports its input devices properly and completely.  A half assed job like DAI won't do, from my perspective.

In any case the fact that Windows 10 will allow cross platform gaming is (at least for Microsoft games ) blowing the wind of change in the gaming industry.

Sounds like good news for PC gamers who prefer to use Mouse & KB as well. Hopefully they'll spend a bit more time getting it right if it's available for all platforms.

Hey guys!

Finally we will see a keyboard and mouse for the PS4, officially supported by Sony.  Apparently controllers don't come near the speed and accuracy of a KB+M combo.

Article here: http://www.kitguru.n...-coming-to-ps4/

With that out of the way, I hope Bio Montreal Art Director and producer will now set aside the time and resources for proper game controls for the desktop, which is a KB+M and a multi-button mouse at that!

I gave up on the Edmonton's Art Director Mike Laidlaw.

Blah blah blah bla 30 FRAMES PER SECOND!

Just get a damn PC and do it right...
