Good luck with that.

Good luck with what? This article doesn't exactly spell doom for anything. I'd say it's a fair bet that the likes of Xbox and Playstation (and perhaps Nintendo) will see multiple iterations past their current-gen models before their lines are put out to pasture, so I don't really have any reason to care at the moment.

I need a multi-purpose machine and a console is really limited to one function.

You can't program math models or plain Assembler or C++ programming with a consoles or controllers. Besides, my gaming leans away from strictly button smashing shooters or fighting games like the Street Fighter series.  So, any piece of software that purports to run on a PC better make sure it supports its input devices properly and completely.  A half assed job like DAI won't do, from my perspective.

In any case the fact that Windows 10 will allow cross platform gaming is (at least for Microsoft games ) blowing the wind of change in the gaming industry.

And it really comes down to personal preference and how you use your machines. I basically use only mobile devices, since I like to use my computer whenever and wherever, and other than screwing around on the internet, I use it for my artwork and little else. Stuff like gaming is something I prefer to keep separate, and attached to my television set. If I ever actually owned a gaming PC, it would basically only do what my PS3 does how, which is play games and stream stuff from my Amazon, HBO GO and Netflix accounts. I'd never use it for any general computer tasks.

Well... you did say "forever". ;)

Provided that sort of hobby suits any particular user. Me, I refuse to own a desktop computer of any kind, and I'd never go near a gaming laptop, so it's consoles forever

Oh come on it's just an expression :P I could be dead before consoles are finally killed off.

Yeah, I am sure they will be around for at least another decade.

Likely much longer than that. A decade isn't actually that great a time span, and it's very unlikely that PC's will suddenly comprise 100% of the gaming market just beyond the decade mark.

Difficult to predict. I think most people will realize soon that they overpay for console gaming and then it's only a matter of time.

Change to the gaming market will come soon enough with VR tech making significant headway. Early adopters can buy the Oculus VR headset, called Touch, this fall. I think it will be sold to consumers with an Xbox controller. The Rift headset will be sold next year (2016).

Two drawbacks with current VR tech:

1, It requires significant computing/graphics power and so you won't see the old-gen consoles using VR.

2. Current VR tech gives many a headache after a few minutes of use.

Frankly, I would wait until the tech matures further.

As to your comment regarding personal use. Well, that's a given. But, I bet that what you do use  you expect it to work properly.

My original statement regarding games for the PC stands. I expect PC games to properly support the input devices for that platform in such a way that it won't interfere but rather assists you with your gaming. I'm sure you will agree that the software you use for your artwork is there to help you and not to get in your way.

Cheers.

Yep, ME3.

If the PS4 has USB ports, there's no reason why they shouldn't.

I wouldn't play ME4 without a gamepad, but if someone else wants the ability to do so, they should have it. Maybe if all platforms had the same freedom of input options, KBM users on PC wouldn't get shafted by lackluster control schemes. Both would be optimized across the board.

They're all just computers.

If your going to use a kb/m combo then you should be using a computer.

A big part of the attraction of consoles is no desk required. Sit on your favorite cush and have a beer.

PS. Consoles are for scrubs!.

If you're not already doing this with your PC, I contend that you're doing it wrong.

I hate playing with KB/M. I have RSI on the mouse and won't use it. Controller for the win.

I use a keyboard mouse set up on my couch all the time, specifically for PC shooters and DAI. I like the mouse, because it makes aiming so much easier.

If console players want the precision of a mouse and the low maintenance and ease of use of a console, then this would be pretty cool (but only if Enigmatick's claims regarding its quality are false, of which I have no idea).

If I've heard correctly, windows 10 allows you to stream Xbox One games on your PC yeah? If this is true, I may not buy a PC version of ME:A...  I will just stream it from my XB1 and use my awesome PC my KB+M..

LOL.

I would much rather sit upright at a desk than recline on a couch. I do everything at my PC rather than my television, if I can (including watch movies or sports).

Hey guys!

Finally we will see a keyboard and mouse for the PS4, officially supported by Sony.  Apparently controllers don't come near the speed and accuracy of a KB+M combo.

Article here: http://www.kitguru.n...-coming-to-ps4/

With that out of the way, I hope Bio Montreal Art Director and producer will now set aside the time and resources for proper game controls for the desktop, which is a KB+M and a multi-button mouse at that!

I gave up on the Edmonton's Art Director Mike Laidlaw.

Seems pointless. I connected my Keyboard and mouse to my PS4 to play FF:ARR. Everything worked just fine. I always figured that if a game is made to use either KB+M or controller then just hooking up the equipment and switching the settings would work.

No, most of my PS4 games are exclusives. ARR was the only one I bought that was for PC and PS4 (PC was messed up at the time).

There might be good news for the PS4.

If Microsoft is determined to have cross platform gaming and Windows 10 is the vehicle to help out, Sony cannot simply stand by and wait for the train to leave the station.  We are talking about a game that you can start on the PC, move on to the XB1 and finish it with a mobile device. This feature alone has implications for the gaming industry.

Any game publishers want to reach the largest gaming market possible. Sony will have to accomodate the game devs and publishers to do just that with their platform. More important, however, is that the game developers must program their game control modules to properly support the players with whatever input device is available, such as touch, KB, mouse, controllers, voice commands and hand gestures.

I'm looking forward to that day.

A good controller is bar better than a keyboard and a mouse to do anything.
