I'm mostly hoping for a mage that deals high single-target damage; at relatively higher costs and with few AoE spells sprinkled in. A Serabaas (hope I spelled that right) seems to be the mostly candidate for this. I remember in Dragon Age 2 when the Hawke's party almost got annihilated by one. They were also pretty tough in regular field combat.

Alternatively, I'd like to see a class that specializes in setting up Class combos, in addition to bolstering said combos through various passives.

Something with high DPS. Right now it feels like mages are only good for barriers and crowd control on NM.

Just give me the Me3 Huntress with her abilities and swap the Asari model with some dragon age model.

More like cast dark channel, cloak then run around until they die.

It was a build a friend of mine recommended to me a while back. Get a Shotgun w/ Blade Attachment, Melee Amps, Spec abilities for maximum melee damage, melee all things (it's silly, I know).

Add pre-bugfix/nerf Flashpoint to the Keeper.

There's your DPS mage.

Either pure CC ( Can CC almost every enemy + longer CC) or DPS.

Oh god, give us fireball and cone of cold back.

Maybe some kind of summoner.  Give me something like the Geth Engineer with his wonderful Turret.  The Necromancer's spirit thrall is OK but most of the time it just stands there.  Beyond the summoning power, just some support spells that target barriers or armor.

She certainly does have a problem with a lot of her abilities having a long cooldown/high cost. I would think with the Barrier nerf, they'd at least reduce the cost from 50 to 35-40.

Yeah, the necromancer would probably not be too happy about a new summoner showing her up when her central thematic ability is still bad.

If we want to use specializations from previous Dragon Age games, we still lack a blood mage and a shapeshifter.

Spirit Healer isn't going to happen, obviously. The Battlemage is already rolled into the existing Arcane Warrior. Self-barrier on dealing damage is the new self-heal. He's mainly just missing the point-blank area of effect damage. I guess there could be a PBAOE mage.

What happened to the mage that was briefly hinted at, who carried a crossbow and a shield? Or do you think that was just thrown out there to stir the pot? It was in some sort of guess the character thread posted by one of the Bioware peeps...

i think we are all in agreement when we say that the next mage should definitely be DPS oriented. also while they are at it they should buff the elementalist a little bit since he is supposed to be a "damage specialist" same thing with the necro.

I vaguely remember something about that .Wasn't it a joke, though?

Melee mage.  I miss the ability to use melee as a mage from DA2.

Some CC spells, some pure DPS, some hallucinogenic/decoy spells.  Like an actual in yer face Battlemage, where that staff blade is more than just a pretty face.

What about the...Shapeshifter was it I think? Was a tree in DAO with spell that would turn you into swarm of bees, bear or big spider. God, that would be so much fun!

There aren't many mages that excel in a tatical manner for example with Glyphs. Imagine one that does and can stealth. Hybrid classes are a missed opportunity at this point. I really thought we would would see something like a mage-archer, avaar definitely fills the mage-warrior, and arcane warrior does the opposite sort of...

I would love to see a stealth mage that is tatical.

Blood mage pls. Her execution is stayed so long as she fights for the inquisition. Kinda like the reaver.

She should specialise in heavy AoE DPS. Casting from health, of course, to be a true glass cannon. Toggle on/off blood magic mode, where spells are cast from HP and no healing is received except from death siphon or blood mage spells, but damage output is increased. Blood Mage spells cost a percentage of max health, to counteract the con promotion power creep.

Abilities:

Blood Magic - toggle on/off, no cooldown but mana is reduced to zero whenever it is active, allows casting from HP, upgrade decreases HP costs.

Haemorrhage - high AoE spirit damage in a 6m radius, upgrade slows enemies in the area, aim and fire a la cool beats. No cooldown, you can kill yourself if you overuse it.

Blood rage - increases damage and attack speed for a short time, effect stacks. Upgrade increases crit chance. You can kill yourself if you overuse it.

Leech - eh, basically devour but a bit better due to lack of heal on hit.

Passives:

Taking you with me - if you die, you do massive damage to whoever killed you.

Blood spatter - enemies you kill explode.

Do you even reave, bro? - WHUMWHUMWHUM you transform into the reaver and kill sh*t.

Creatures without blood are immune. So wraiths pwn you.

Shapeshifter sounds like an amazing Hybrid Mage.  Giving her several forms, each form replaces the 4 abilities with 3 abilities and an ability to revert.  2 Forms seems appropriate, one primarily around being a Warrior Type (Bear) and one around being a Rogue (Spider).  If we wanted the Morrigan special we could add in Insect Swarm (Mage).

Then for standard spells, make it a bit nature-like, like the old keeper, one with nature, thornblades etc.

Other concepts I'd like to see;

Primal Mage (Ice/Lightning/Earth).

Add in a major lightning field like Tempest from Origins and some earthy skills like Rock Armor/earthquake.

Force Mage

Some Crushing Prison, Fist of the Maker, Mind Blasting, Pull of the Abyss, Gravitic Ring sort of Action.

Hexing Mage

Poisoning AoE Spell, Miasma (Weaken/Shock/Chill, Damage over time), Death Hex (all hits on target are crit), Sleep (AoE Sleep), Waking Nightmare (As Origins)

Blood Mage

Blood Slave, Hemorrhage, Draining Aura, Blood Magic Toggle, Drain Life, etc etc.
