While I understand that some are frustrated or upset by this news, I must ask (since it's mentioned by several posters) what was done by BioWare, or the teams, to mislead players?  If there are examples, I am happy to try to address them here.

Releasing a single player DLC called "Jaws of Hakkon"  for PS3 only 2 months ago (May 26th)? How does this not give the players and costumers the feeling "ah well, they seem to give us new content and stuff once in a while and will support the game for the future". I've even paid 15 bucks for it... it was fun, but we were all hoping for more, especially in the MP.

I should back off... too much anger is rising up.

Folks were given no heads up whatsoever about old gen versions of DA:I potentially losing support simply because they are for old gen consoles. It's kind of like how information about the full extent of Sony's exclusive content deal for Destiny wasn't readily available (more like not at all) prior to launch. That sort of information can have a major impact on purchasing decisions, and consumers absolutely have a right to it. If you don't give it to them, then those consumers are going to be unhappy. Potentially very, very unhappy (like lawsuit unhappy).

I wonder if they had to flip a coin for who was gonna break the news. Billy gets this thread while Blar gets the two good news items.

We played Rock Paper Scissors Bo5.  I won 3-2.

On the one hand they were caught between new versions of games vs older version when developing,. remember what they are developing for decisions had to be made years ago.

On the other hand once you decide to support both version they should be supported until the end run for those systems.

The only true way for me to judge all of this would be to know the exact populations of all platforms and to know the exact cost to port to each platform.

I feel sorry for Billy, having to announce a decision that was made well above his pay grade yet he's the one who has to deal with the snark from the angry rabbles.

At the time of the interview (prior to the launch of the game, just before PAX Prime 2014), the mode as a whole was being referenced. Not speaking to specific platforms.

Support does not refer exclusively to patches, or DLCs. It refers to a team continuing to actively work on the feature/mode/game.

We are continuing support of the mode, with more weekly challenges that will extend far beyond what was delivered on ME3MP (I can say this with certainty, since I assisted with setting up the pipeline and content for that game and live service as well). Each weekly challenge is content that is created by the team here. That support will continue.

I had no idea when buying said Bioware product that DLC (and other extras/support) would not be the same as the newer gen platforms. Why did my product cost the same as others?

Very very very unsatisfied customer who has supported Bioware for years.

I would bet that to most people of sound mind "supporting" a game does involve all of the above.  When ME3 got its final patch and its final DLC THEN it was referred to as "no longer supported".  You can still play it today.

I know you have to have your PR face on and all that.  I get it and completely understand it, but you know just as well as everyone who plays this game does Bioware just gave a part of the fan base a huge kick in the balls AFTER hyping them up, charging them the same price for the same game and leading them to believe the opposite of what the reality now is.

A shitty thing to do.

You live and you learn though.  Lesson learned.

I'm OK because I'm on Xbox One. However, I still understand that people feel hurt, not by the decision abandoning the old-gen, but by the way the decision was announced.

First, did you think the decision do not deserve an individual article? (Sorry, I'm not blaming you Billy but the guy who handled this.) The decision was just mentioned in the save importer article, like a trivial thing.

Second, if in that article Bioware officially said something like 'Sorry, it's a tough decision but we have to make it.', then people would feel better before you or Mark Darrah or Mike Laidlaw said this on tweet or forum. But instead, the announcement was like you were content and even expecting a celebration.

Lastly, in the article it just said the old-gen have no DLC in the future, but now also patch? Why not just post an official article explaining all these clearly?

Again, when I say 'you' I mean the guy who handled this. Sorry for any confusion.

It's clear bioware never said specifically they would support older gen consoles forever, but that doesn't mean this move won't leave a sour taste in mouths of at least a quarter of their playerbase. Maybe they believed offering the porting transition option and baseline continued service would be enough, but I don't think that's going to sate the inevitable backlash that has just now started along with negative PR storm that will move forward into the future with the affected users.

Okay, So the way I see it. My opinions only, I don't claim to work for BioWare/EA I just make them laugh with gifs.

First of all, I'm not blaming anything on BioWare, but mostly EA.

When the development of DAI started, the older consoles were still popular. Hell, the development started even before the new consoles were announced. Releasing it for the older consoles as well as the newer ones was a sensible choice because a) More people buying the game, meaning more money, and happier customers. Imagine the storm that would have followed if they would have announced the game only for the newer consoles and PC back then. It would not have been pretty. After their initial announcement and realized that this decision was risky as hell, they couldn't retract the statement due to backlash and the fact that they were already working on the ps3/360 version, and scrapping it meant that they would also scrap the possible extra cash they were going to make.

However, anyone who has played the game on newer consoles can see that the game suffered due to the fact that they had to spend resources on a ps3/360 version of the game on the side. Also my guess would be that the game and the DLCs didn't sell all that well on the older consoles, and it just simply wasn't profitable in any shape or form. As much as I hate EA's money laundering antics, games aren't made from sugardust, but money. So the most logical decision to make here to keep everything afloat is to stop developing for the older consoles alltogether. The newer consoles get MUCH better quality DLCs and content, BioWare and EA has money, everyone is happy except for everyone who bought the game for older consoles and was wounded in this failed experiment conducted by EA.

I have mixed feelings about this issue, but I totally see where they are coming from and WHY they ceased to care about the older consoles. Answering the question of "Should they even have developed the game for older consoles in the first place?" is VERY tricky, because as evidenced by the internet, it would have been a mess no matter what they would have done.

What I don't really condone is EA using this opportunity to get even more money from game sales. Yes, I know, what I said above about money, but these people have already purchased the game (+ the DLCs) and the least you can do is give them a free game upgrade to the newer consoles, then host a contest to win a couple of xbones/ps4s.

tldr EA took a risk which didn't pay off all that well and I totally understand why they did it.

You'd fit right in at EA/bioware.

'Well, I don't agree with the decision, but I understand why it was made because $$$$$$$, and thats all that matters at the end of the day.'

What is it about if not money? All businesses are out to make money. It's naive to think otherwise.

Yep, that's the straight up honest truth.  However what corps need to learn is how to make money while pleasing—not completely pissing off, or alienating—your player base.  Truth is, if I were still on X360, I'd be anything but impressed right now as well.

I urge people to make sure not to shoot the messenger on this. The beard trinity (Billy Blar and Bluke) has done much to improve player experience and while the news they deliver is hard to take, it had to be delivered. No amount of discontent can reverse EA's business strategy.

The cost of the game is exactly that. The price for the purchase of the game in the box, or digital download.

At the time of a game's launch we do not go into details about DLCs due to the nature of announcing and what it means for release dates. Once we have a DLC pack in a state that we are reasonably confident it will launch at the quality level we are aiming for, and on a targeted date, we then announce the DLC pack. BioWare very rarely announces packs more than a few days before launch. This is due to logistical realities of certification and ensuring everything is ready for a smooth launch. Patches often get announced on the day they are released, for the same reasons.

Downloadable Content is in addition to the game you buy at the store. We build all DLC after the main game is completed, as the team frees up from their main game tasks. For Multiplayer, we have given away both DLC packs, as well as patches for no additional cost for all platforms. Single player DLC packs are often sold at their own price, however, we did provide The Black Emporium via patch at no additional cost on Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Some companies and products elect to do a "season pass" or other similar business model, in which a "promise" is made that some amount of content (sometimes very specific details are given, including names, other times more vague statements like "we will release 3 DLC packs") will be available for a discounted price for committing to the full "season". For those that do no subscribe to the season pass, they will pay a premium to buy the pieces individually, but are afforded the same "promise" that content is being created with the intent to deliver on that. On Dragon Age: Inquisition we elected to avoid that route.
