boycott their next sht. he's right about businesses being only about money. hit their wallet.

I would hope more people than just me are going to be doing that.  I won't be "boycotting" as much as just buying the games used.  I have many friends that play Bioware games both ME and DA (many of whom I talked into trying ME in the first place...go figure lol).  I'll still be playing with them, just treating the dev/publisher as good as they treat me at the same time.  It's a drop in the bucket, but I will do my part.  If my friends want to find non EA/Bioware games to play in place of them this gen then I'm all for that.  I'm excited for MGSV.

What is it about if not money? All businesses are out to make money. It's naive to think otherwise.

Yes, they are. There is also a reason why valve is one of the most loved companies in the world and why EA is one of the most hated.

There are right ways and wrong ways to do things. If you support this crap then I don't really know what to say.

There was really no good way out. It sucks. It really does. My personal opinion is that they should have never released the game on last gen. But some executive decided otherwise.

In the end, I wanted a ps4 and wanted to continue playing. So I migrated.

My point above is that business is business and that businesses will do what makes them money especially if it is within the moral grey area or isn't illegal. That's life.

For Xbox and PS3 owners going next gen it must suck. SP it'll have the save transfer thing, but I doubt they'll do the same for MP. At least, they should offer chests to compensate?

I feel sorry for Billy, having to announce a decision that was made well above his pay grade yet he's the one who has to deal with the snark from the angry rabbles.

True, but by working at Bioware (therefore morally agreeing with corporate decisions) he has to take responsibility for it.

I didn't say that? Neither did the article? I was just answering a comment about MP data being able to transfer to an upgraded unit. So if someone happens to be upgrading and wants to continue DAIMP, they can.

Whether they actually want to or not after being (understandably) angry is an entirely different discussion. One I'd rather not get into, but for the record, if I was playing on PS3, I wouldn't be very happy at the moment.

Um... because they DON'T have PS4 or Xbone lying around? Maybe they'e in the middle of saving money for it, but they really, really wanted to play that particular game?

The only reason Valve acts all buddy buddy with gamers is because we throw our live savings in their direction with every new steam sale. If you really believe Valve cares more about gamers then they care about making money you're a ****** tool.

I've been sort of sitting on my hands here because I'm enjoying the fun. The thing is I own a 360 copy, two 360s, two Xbox one copies and two Xbox ones. I bought the 360 copy specifically to play with my friends on the 360 (Not all of my friends have the same money flow as I do), I did buy it used so I've seen both sides of the game and I do admit to committing all of my single player time on the One and not the 360.

That answers Pork's trollin' question of "Who on earth would have bought the game for PS3 or Xbox if they had an xbone or ps4 lying around?"

As for the whole current situation of DLC, I'm wondering if the people that upgrade from the 360 to the Xbox One will be able to get the newer content when the push for backwards compatibility hits. At this point PS4 has very few titles under their banner of "If you have this, you can download it for free on the newer system." They will have Playstation Now to play some titles from the previous platforms which would mean you're playing it on a PS4 and with Xbone Backwards Compatibility you would also be playing it on the Xbone not a 360, would you then be able to acquire the newer DLCs since you are playing on a new system even if its the old version of the game? I'm fairly certain it will still update the same annoying way when I put in my 360 copy to test this when the mass list of bc titles hits.

(Just throwing that out there since both of those are rather recent developments)

Will you still require an update to transfer MP data from the 360 to the One and from the PS3 to PS4 in this case?

In both of these cases  (granted PSNow and Xbone Backwards Compatibility is on the horizon and not in the now) you wouldn't need to buy a new copy of the game if you're allowed to get the DLC you've already paid for and the new DLC because you are playing it on a newer console. Just where is the dividing line for old gen and new in this kind of situation?

Well the decission has been made, I'd suggest focusing on "IF" you were to jump to a differen't platform, what incentives other than a game save service are they offering you.

If the game save transfer service offered FREE MP standalone or Full Game as it is slightly nickel-and-dimey expecting people to pay for another full copy of the game... Especially if they are transferring to buy you future DLC packs.

ALSO.... You just offered PC users free MP forever for no price at all, this should be equal on all platforms... I'm pretty sure the AoH DLC exclusivity didn't work out too well for sales either.

I'm trying to work out who is really pushing for these anti-consumer policies...

The only true way for me to judge all of this would be to know the exact populations of all platforms and to know the exact cost to port to each platform.

I'd guess they conducted that very same analysis and decided it was more costly to support than the cost of the furor they'd receive in not supporting.

Going to try to respond to a few points:

Does BioWare/EA expect you to buy another copy of Dragon Age: Inquisition?:

There is NO expectation that anyone who has bought the game on PS3 will buy it again on PS4, The same can be said about Xbox 360 and Xbox One.  The save importer was created to be available in the event someone started on PS3/Xbox 360, didn't complete the game, purchased/acquired a PS4/Xbox One since starting their original playthrough/MP progress, and wants to continue on the new hardware.  If no one ends up using the feature, that's ok.  We know some players have used it.  We hope it helped to ease the transition.

Why no free copy?  You (EA) did this before for <title X>?

The title referred to in a link at the start of the thread, was Battlefield 4.  The reason that offer was available was due to the impending hardware launch.  Battlefield 4 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 just 1 week prior to the PS4 and Xbox One systems launching.  To avoid players feeling they would have to wait a week to start playing, thus falling a week behind other players in a competitive shooter community (and potentially spoiler issues for the single player campaign), the offer was created by Sony and Microsoft.

For the Jaws of Hakkon and Spoils of the Avvar (the 2 paid SP DLC packs that release prior to the announcement of no additional DLC support on PS3 and Xbox 360), we were able to work out a deal with Sony and Microsoft so that if you owned them on PS3, you can download them on PS4 at no additional cost. If you owned them on Xbox 360, you can download them on Xbox One at no additional cost.

Why is the Dragon Age: Inquisition Trial only available on PC?:

The Dragon Age: Inquisition Trial is available for PC because that was the platform we were able to create it for.  It has nothing to do with favourites or fairness.  Setting up a trial, or any product, is a very complex undertaking. It relies on many factors being true, or false, to allow it to even be discussed, let alone brought to completion.  My spreadsheets for tracking the work made even Blair scared... he sits right beside me and knows exactly how complex everything we do is... so that should be telling. The necessary factors lined up on Origin.

A few questions regarding PS Now and Xbox One backwards compatibility came up as well.  I'll try to clarify those a bit later.  They are a bit trickier, since at this time, DAI is not in the catalog for either feature.  Just a general FYI, my current understanding is that any game available on the older and new platforms is less likely to appear on PS Now or Backwards Compatibility (due largely to the fact that they are added as a means to play a game that would be otherwise unavailable on the newer platforms).

I want to ensure everyone here that at no point in the decision making process, the work to split patches, or the delivery of the messages, did anyone at BioWare assume this news would be taken well, that we'd be celebrated for the work we'd done, or that people would say "thank you".  We knew, and we know, that this was not fun news to receive.  As Proto pointed out, it was also not fun to deliver.  Blair is good at RPS, but honestly this communication was always going to land on me.  I am the producer responsible for Multiplayer on Dragon Age: Inquisition.  That title comes with the good (having a blast chatting with folks on the forums, on weekly Twitch streams, announcing challenges, and changes/updates to the game), and the bad (having to deliver this kind of news to a passionate bunch, that loves a game, and wants to keep loving it).

We always appreciate everyone's feedback.  It's essential for us to learn and improve.  I hope you continue to deliver your feedback to us.  It's one of my favourite parts of being a BioWare team member.  Very few studios have the opportunity to engage directly, and daily, with such an incredibly passionate group of players.  I hope that never changes.

Billy

This is interesting...

As I'm not really effected by this...What does this mean moving forward for DA:I?

Now that the restriction of console parity of last gen has removed, is there going to be any improved feature sets applied to the game?

Here's a fun fact: Someone did some datamining a while ago and found beautiful 3D hairstyle models in the DA:I assets. I think Bioware simply didn't use them in the name of parity so X360/PS3 users wouldn't feel bad about their flatheads

True, but by working at Bioware (therefore morally agreeing with corporate decisions) he has to take responsibility for it.

Sorry to invoke Godwin's Law, but he's working as a mid-level manager in a subsidiary of a major corporation, who's being honest enough to give us the information we need to hear, whether we want to hear it, or not.  It's not like he's an Auschwitz guard marching people off to the "showers".
