I'm sure all six of them will get over it.

Probably helps that Solas actually told you straight up that he's ending things ahead of time and didn't just knock someone up as a surprise.
Solas' arc was written knowing beforehand that he'd break up with you. Jacob's wasn't. The difference shows massively.
Solas is pretty hesitant to get involved with you, thinks he's going to regret it, but says damn the consequences. This all falls apart when Solas returns to his original purpose - he breaks up with you, because he doesn't want there to be a conflict of interest, and doesn't want to drag you along into anything you didn't sign up for. This is tragic but not entirely surprising given the hints he gave earlier. The PC can react in variety of ways to this. Then, of course, we get the ending reveal. You can argue Solas was a bit of a user, or he got too caught up in the moment. Either way, the outcome is a really interesting and emotionally involved romance, and a nice change from 'flirt flirt kiss loyalty quest sex declaration of undying love'.
Jacob doesn't ever hint that things are going to end badly. Jacob doesn't have those kinds of apprehensions. Jacob doesn't really have any other, outstanding lifelong commitments that could interfere with the romance - nothing bad happens asides from the fact that Shepard disappeared for six months (which is no excuse imo). Jacob's cheating was shoehorned in as a way to tie off a loose end and moving from ME2 to ME3 it's a total 180 that comes out of nowhere asides from lazy writing.
The difference is between good, planned out writing vs. bad, rushed, unplanned writing. A lesson to BioWare: plan your games in advance.
Jacob was black, had daddy issues and cheated on Shepard bruh. Martin Luther King didn't die for this smh
^ Yep, that.
I actually thought he was ok as a character at the start of ME2 - dependable, honest, relatively normal, a good foil for Miranda - but most of his development just turned him into a massive stereotype. *sigh*
so it wouldn't matter if you get dumped if you are being dumped the "right" way?
Yes, exactly. It's more about the how and less about the what.
Let's have a female character dump the male MC and see how the fanbase responds. ![]()
I guess there kind of was Morrigan but there was a DLC pretty much just to get back together with her.

Cassandra dumps Inquisitor. Me
Maker is dead
. I didn't see much topics but saw few post people didn't like it. So nothing happened.

Oh, didn't even know she could that. She stayed by my first Inquisitor's side. XD If it's avoidable somehow then the fans tend to give 0 fucks.

I think the difference is that it's avoidable. As long as you don't make Cassandra into the divine. With Solas and Jacob, they'd break up with you, no matter what.
Yeah, that is true, Suketchi. Well if helps, I apologies for the sexiest comment.

I...I'm pleasantly surprised, I don't think I've had a discussion go like this before. Kind of rendered me speechless for a moment XD Thank you, it means a lot to me that you'd say that.
Why u keep lookin' at me like that.

I might be in the minority but I think Bioware had a better ending for Morrigan's arc in DA:O. I think the bittersweet end to her arc was a better fit than the happily ever after that was added in post Witch Hunt.
On that note I wonder if Bioware will cave to fanservice requests and Witch Hunt Solas.
This thread made me watch Jacob's romance end in ME3. I really wanted bang my head against the wall with how badly writen it was and how it treated fem!shep's character, seriously it's just so bad- poor fem!Sheps who romanced him!

Morrigan left to pursue her goals, and the Warden could eventually go after her (in DA:O, since Alistair asks you about what you want to do). You can do the star-crossed lovers bit if you want, or no.
Why do people not like Jacob? I don't like nor dislike him. My favorite character in ME2 was Tali.
I HAVE NOT in ANY way given Solas a pass. Morrigan and Anders at least warned me so I saw something coming. Solas dumped me out of the blue then left and then his lies were revealed! He will die by my Inquisitors hand and be made into a pair of wolf skin boots and a rug at the foot of my Throne.
Just found out who Solas was ... And I've watched an LP of DA:I (because I couldn't bare to finish this really bad game)... That should tell ya how Solas is in my eyes.
Personally I'm not opposed to the concept in theory. Would have to be pulled off well, certainly better than Jacob's resolution was.
Problem is female characters in Bioware games either get Jacobed, Solased or Thaned in the butt!!

He's easy to make fun of because his personality teeters between utterly boring and somewhat unlikeable. From his plain, vanilla banter, to him dumping and cheating on a romanced FemShep like she was chump change, and acting a like an immature fool if FemShep dumps him for someone else (he gives you a childish attitude, and in the case of Garrus, uses what you can argue is a racial slur) Folks also consider him to not be terribly useful for gamplay comparing to other squad mates. Basically not that cool in the grand scheme of Bioware companions lol.

This. Bioware will never spend resources just for six people. I don't understand why is such big deal. I wonder how someone can romanced Jacob then we have Garrus and Thane. And Solas is best everyone love Solas. And OP how you even dare to put both in same sentence.
As it has been pointed out, Jacob's romance only ended the way it did because he wasn't popular enough to warrant spending more resources on.
Solas' break-up is built into the romance and the plot. Massive difference in quality.
EPIC RAP BATTLES OF MASSEFFECT BEGIN.

I don't quite get amount of hate either, though I agree that he's bit boring. Then again he's human and every human in ME is bit boring.
Expect Kasumi.
How do you feel about Happily-Never-After where the LI leaves you without your input? There were a big contrast between Jacob and Solas' fan reaction to being dumped. Jacob cheated on you and then leaves you after knocking up another woman while Solas leaves you after deceiving you. Solas, however, was very positively being received while Jacob was being dreaded. Was it due to the characters' popularity or how the story being presented, so it wouldn't matter if you get dumped if you are being dumped the "right" way?
The difference is that Solas left you because he thinks that his mission is more important than your relationship. He still loves Shepard and the break up hurts him a lot. The reason for the break up came from outside the relationship unlike with Jacob who didn't have enough patience to wait Shepard and in the meanwhile prepare for the Reapers. The "romance" part with Jacob in ME3 was also quite horrible because Shepard couldn't be angry at him. Although romanced Jacob still loves Shepard it doens't make it better. If that wasn't enough it's also possible that Shepard who romanced Jacob can't find another LI if Kaidan is dead and she isn't interested in women. Besides I think there is still hope for those who romanced Solas and if there is a possibility to get him back then I believe that his romance most likely would be awesome but if that doesn't happen then I most likely be dissappointed and don't want to see those kind of romances ever again.
I think Thane was also a Happily-Never-After kind of romance as well because you can't prevent his death. Of course you can die at the end as well so maybe you will meet him somewehere beyond and can live happily ever after with him there.
Personally I don't like that romances end and I can't do anything about it. But if I can get Solas back in the DLC then the break up most likely will make the romance even better. I liked Thane romance but it was so obvious that he will die so I could prepare for myself for his death before I started the romance. Besides I can die in the end of ME3 so I can imagine that Shepard will meet Thane somewhere beyond. What comes to Jacob that was just horrible.

His superhero outfit doesn't help matters either.
