So, how does one annihilate a hard drive? Asking for a friend.
Completely depends on the type of storage. For any magnetic device simply using a degausser will do the job. For optic drives you have to physically destroy it. But this is really easy. Many shredders will do a real nice job, especially if the storage 'disk' is not too thick.
A nice hot fire also does a great job as long as it actually melts. Just getting it hot won't work. You can also just take a piece of metal and completely scratch the surface. These are some of the low tech/cost ways to do it.
