Picture it, Gabe Newell comes to Gamecom and announces that Half Life 3 is finished and ready to be played immediately on PC and consoles. He shows footage of the game and it's everything gamers could ever hoped for. However there's a catch, Newell will only release the game if something is done for him.

 

Newell wants everyone to vote for Anita Sarkeesian as president in 2016 (in this hypothetical scenario she's deciding to run for president). If she becomes president, Newell releases Half Life 3, if not then he will destroy the only copy and files and then proceed to kill himself so that Half Life 3 dies forever.

 

What would happen? Would Gabe's promise of Half Life 3 be enough to influence people politically?

I couldn't vote, and i wouldn't either. The way she talks about gaming and equality is quite insulting to well "normal" human beeings. I would just go back and play Half life 2 with Episone One/Two.

You don't have to vote and everyone gets Half life 3.

You're joking right?

Valve makes hundreds of millions of dollars a year through Steam. It prints them more money than they ever even DREAMED from actually making games. Valve exists pretty much to do as little as they possible want now, simply because they can never put out another game in their history and still be in the green for decades to come.

EDIT: On topic, burn HL3. I don't hate Anita like many on here do, I just think she is woefully ignorant and small-minded, terrible traits for the leader of the free world.

Besides... Half Life 2 wasn't even that good.

At the moment I am having a hard time figuring out why people are so eager to get their hands on Half Life 3 as it is let alone be so desperate to get their hands on Half Life 3 that they would actively consider voting in somebody they hate for president.

 

I never really got the whole Half Life craze, sure I bet they were for their times both visually and mechanically impressive however from a gameplay point of view I don't really see much beyond the standard FPS formula that was widely used at the time.

They get maybe a thirty percent cut from all sales on Steam, and Steam sells a LOT of games.

It's fun. It's not the gaming Messiah that fans have made it out to be. It has just become more of a joke "HALF LIFE 3!!111!1!1!11!!!!!" than anything else at this point.

The second was amazing for its time and still holds up pretty well in my opinion. If you play Half-Life 1, try to grab the Black Mesa mod for a nice graphics update.

Play both, though. Black Mesa is a "reimagination", not a 1:1 remake. Meaning some places are missing, some are added, but overall, the facility is greatly expanded.
