TL:DL Veteran with 80% defence can obviously take "5 times" as much damage, as a scrub with 0% defence. (Same base hitpoint and armor)

DR: That is only true in the singular situation I listed above, and not true for the vast majority of good builds + equipment listings.

A single action, whether, dodge, barrier or other ability will completely throw out all those results. The unpromoted character will take exactly the same amount of damage as the promoted to health, which is either zero or sub-lethal chip damage, in the hands of skilled players with the right abilities.

It is this sort of oversimplification that overvalues the effect of promotions when there are plenty of other gameplay mechanics and tactics that are far more important and useful.

If he was trying to provide a complete formula for NPC damage he would have just linked the aznricepuff's thread as you always do.

99% of people will just look at the graph. Which is great. It's very telling.

How does this add to the discussion at all? Obviously when damage is completely mitigated, whether it be barrier or "dodging" then the amount of defense you have doesn't matter.

Whoa.  Medallian, impressive!  Just a month ago you were at 200/250/212.   Don't like those rogues much, do you?  That's like 45 promotes a week; really epic.

Diablo vets know well the ehp metric.

For Daimp, I find that there is a really elegant offensive/defensive symmetry between the three stats. Cunning gives you the quickest overall boost for the least amount of promotions but gradually flatlines, Willpower gives you a soft plateau-ing curve that never completely flattens offensively, Con gives you no offensive boost and only a minisicule defensive boost but gradually accelerates in its real defensive benefits. The turtle always wins the race in the end but the question is will you still be playing to see that 150+ con promotion payoff?

45 promotes a week (if that figure is correct) at roughly 3 hours a promote = 135 hours  (every week)

Hours in a week 168

33 hours downtime a week

4.7 hours downtime per day to sleep, eat and poo

Possible....I guess

Do not question a god. Rules of time and space do not apply. Rules enforced by bioware and TOS dosen't apply either.

I take it back. Bioware only kindly suggested the rules and give little hints that there will be punishments. There us no enforcement.

Promoting chars is sooooooooooooooooo grindy, boring and annoying. I will NEVER get 170 stats. Its more likely I will play Fallout IV in a few months,

Well I never claimed it was for a lv.1 keeper or something. It could have been a lv.16 Katari or lv. 20 Assassin etc. In a post like this, with so many variables one needs to make a 'point of reference'. It could have been 500-600-900.... hit points

There are so many factors that influence someone's 'EHP': level, class, gear, skills, passive bonuses, potions, armor, attack type etc.

If we factor all those things into the post then 90% of the people here would just say TL:DR and never get the point of promoted stats effect on 'EHP'. Post was kept simple for one reason; to reach as many people as possible.
