Nothing more about the game, just a Teaser Image confirming its worldwide reveal, set for Gamescom August 5 at 5am PT/8 am PT/1pm GMT

Who's excited for this game?

Rumoured to be set on Louisiana

Edit: a video for those that may or may not remember Mafia II

Updated 05/08: Trailer is out!

Name of the Protagonist: Lincoln Clay

Game Settings: New Orleans, 1968 (Wonder if this will be played like Mafia II, where you play in different ages or you only play in the 1968 settings)

I greatly enjoyed the second game despite the lack of side activities. The first one was dencent too but the gameplay frustrated me.

Considering the car style there, I would wager this game takes place in the 70/80's.

Too bad... I really wanted a sequel for what happened to Joe and Vitto after that Cliffhanger ending we got on the Second game...

Cool.

I liked the previous game.

Hope they either make it an entire open world with a tons of stuff to do, or just stick with linear missions and restrict us to certain areas, mafia II was a bit confusing in this issue.

Other than that, the game's brilliant.

Mafia was a masterpiece.

Mafia II was okay.

However, 2Kczech aka the old Illusion Softworks studio (which made the first two games) is apparently not the main developer this time, so I am rather wary of the result. Still curious as to how this one turns out.

Also, is that an afro on one of the characters? Seventies confirmed? :P

I'm sure we'll find out through dialogue, although I never played Mafia 1, there's a reference to it in Mafia 2 where you end up killing the character from Mafia 1. If anything, I think that Vitto will appear in a mentor role for our character and we'll probably hear about Joe's fate from him.

I'm really looking forward to this and have been ever since I played 2. I hope the collectibles are as awesome as they were in 2.

Not sure if we will see Vito in the mafia. He seemed to be pretty done with that lifestyle by the end of the game. And Joe likely got taken away to get caped.

They cannot end it like that, and all the leaks says Joe will return, it is almost confirmed.

Rumours are that its set on Louisiana in the 60s-70s (According to the Cars styles)

Hopefully.. I mean, they CAN but they shouldn't... Right?

Yeah. Here's for a real open World this time.

There are no capes in the mafia.

Maybe we'll get tasked with killing a middle aged Vito at some point, who knows?

If it's set in the 60/70s era I expect racist killings, promiscuous sexual activity between all genders and sexualities, rape and the rolling stones.

Indeed, I would have loved the game to remain in that time period. And with tons of side quests too, would have been awesome.

Aye, the talk it's gonna be in and around New Orleans.

Hopefully.. I mean, they CAN but they shouldn't... Right?

Absolutely they should, Joe was taken to a secluded place, as he was not part of the deal, whether he was killed, managed to reach a compromise with Leo's man or escaped somehow(he was still having his gun at that point) is unknown, the beginning of mafia III should address that.

As for Vito, probably we're done with him or he'll return at some point as a minor character.

Yeah. Here's for a real open World this time.

Aye. am with you for this one. GTA style.

Say what, mate?

https://youtu.be/xSwnDGXj4dQ?t=41m32s

"...a Frenk, to byl Donův jedinej vopravdovej přítel... Přátelství... je... sračka..."

"...and Frank, that was the Don's only real friend.... Friendship... is... sh*t..."

And then he got shot to sh*t.

Actually, referring to my previous post, I meant that the devs CAN end Mafia II and Joe's/Vito's arc like that (as in forgetting them, but they shouldn't because of the fanbase and the major cliffhanger in the end.)

Apologies for the confusion caused, I was actually referring to the first part of the post:

They cannot end it like that(...)

Ahh, no need, i should've got that.

Actually from what I've seen on the mafia forums and the steam community most of the fanbase want nothing with Vito and Joe, and just move on, and though i don't necessarily disagree, i still want to know what happened to Joe, and there was also a lot of ranting about not making it like GTA.

And i wonder about the role of the female in the theme art. should be interesting.

Looks like Vitto is taking on a Leo Galante's role...

Hmmm, another War-Veteran? This time, Vietnam War, eh?

I'm not feeling the protagonist voice all that much. It's like he is sounding crispy for the sake of crispy.

Kind of disappointed it's an CGI trailer. At this time and age the ingame engines look as good as CGI.

Some actual gameplay is included in this preview as well.

Uh.. well, I am not exactly sure how I feel about this one, now that I have seen it. What's up with those hyper explosive cars? In Mafia 1 and 2, it actually took some effort for the car to burst into flames or explode.

But willing to wait for more material before I thoroughly judge it.
