Is it gold-viable?

I currently have it at a 3.

The Mattock is killin' my trigger finger!

I use it (argus) on the N7 destroyer with stability and clip capacity; plus a barrage upgrade 4.

This is my current gold setup.

Or would I be better off with my saber 2?

Gold-viable? Sure it is.

Saber II is certainly better than Argus III though.

It's not the best AR, but of course it's Gold-viable.

You got a 'like' for the cartoon.

It's platinum viable if you want to torture yourself.

Turians are best for it, Tsol as Techno suggest or the TGI.

It's Plat viable and you can kill most mooks with 1-2 bursts (if you can headshot):

It's actually quite viable on gold and I would bring it on plat with the right characters.

The Argus makes me say ARRGH!!! alot because the reticle does not stay on the head like it should. Saber > Argus no question, but the saber feels more like an SR than an AR. My favorite rare AR is the revenant, but u pretty much have to put it on a tsol for it to be any good.

The Saber 2 is better than the Argus 3, by a good margin.

As for the Argus specifically, it's gold viable, yes. But put it on turians to get the stability bonus.

It's even platinum viable, on the TGI.

The Argus has the problem that it can be made to work pretty well, but almost every other gun is more fun. If you can do the headshots and manage the burst recoil, then the Valkyrie is more effective, and if you want a big, heavy, slow firing, high damage AR, the Saber is better in every way. So I find I only use the Argus when I feel driven to complete the challenge.

Alas you're right, same here.

Its good on the Turian Sol/Sent but even then you ideally need to use stability mods

TSol, because of built-in stability and rate of fire + accuracy from Marksman. Needs the damage barrel IMO

TGhost, has pure damage from Cloak, but lacks in ROF and accuracy, but can make it up with thermal scope and Overload to quickly strip shields.

Definitely gold-viable.

With an above average team (where you don't have to carry the team), it is also plat-viable.

It requires compensation with mods/gear/powers though. Unless using it on a turian on-host, you need stability compensation. I use stability module III + Barrage upgrade. MM/DM/HM makes a big difference too as it's accuracy is not all that great. You can use the AR scope as well. It does quite well with all these compensations.

Saber is better but argus offers an interesting playstyle.

Is the Saber really that much better than the Argus though?

This assumes you have compensated for the brutal recoil. Say you put both on a Destroyer and use the stability mod on the gun, plus the stability consumable.

I played a few games with the Argus last week and was actually impressed with the damage output. I would have thought with the proper stability that it inflicted more damage than the Saber.

The Saber is definitely more accurate, but can have stability problems of its own.

And fyi I am not interested in what the maths say, but in what in game performance dictates

It sucks. The only application worth using is with mega stability and accuracy and even then you have to sacrifice +25% damage or consumable slots to get the required bonuses in order to hit anything. You could just as easily use a GPR on the TSol if you want a gimp setup for headshotting, it has roughly the same kill rate for the amount of effort put in but you can get an extended clip for your troubles and don't have to deal with tunnel vision and weird scope sensitivity.

As for the saber, the stability is irrelevant unless you are good enough to get consecutive headshots on moving targets at long distance within the default recoil reset time, which takes several hundred hours of obsessive aim practice. Still, it is more powerful and can go longer without reloading, in addition to not needing excessive accuracy modding, and is not as class specific as the argus, being a decent if somewhat hipsterish option for tech casters.

And as an aside, the word "viable" has been such a joke on this forum ever since the days of ToplessPaladin or whatever his name was. If everything is "viable", what is the point of even using that descriptor anymore?

^^ Strongly disagree . I use it on many different characters..all it really needs is the stability mod  ..no stability gear or amps   and the kick is nearly gone. i even put it on the asari vanguard..works great.  Human soldier, GI, any turian at all, not just the soldier..the Salarian bros, Paladin..even volus  ...I can keep going..  I always get the 20 head shot medal with this gun.  the only reason you would hate the gun is because you hate the gun.
