Oats in the Water, by Ben Howard, for Blackwall. Here's why!

"Go your way, I'll take the long way round; Oh I'll find my own way down, as I should."
He's trying to atone, go down the right path again.

"Hold your gaze. There's coke in the Midas touch."
I read the explanation of the coke thing somewhere but can't remember exactly what it was... hehe. My takeaway then was that gold can be polluted or tarnished or unrefined... Blackwall laments that he valued gold too much at one point. He certainly realized how flawed gold, and greed, could be.

"A joke in the way that we rust and breathe again."
Another nudge toward the redemption or rebirth notion?

"And you'll find loss, and you'll fear what you've found."
He certainly found loss, and became a coward. This could also be viewed, in a romanced Blackwall, as him losing the Inquisitor when the truth comes out...

"When the weather comes tearing down."
The Callier massacre, or, in a romance, the truth coming out.

"There'll be oats in the water, there'll be birds on the ground..."
Aftermath. He hurt a lot of people any way you look at it.

"There'll be things you never asked her; Oh how they tear at you now."
I guess this only applies to a romance. The night he leaves Skyhold comes to mind. At that time, he believes he'll never see her again.

I have certainly not put too much thought into this at all! I discovered the song right before getting DAI, so I listened to it pretty frequently during my first play through (wherein I romanced Blackwall). Even to this day, I can't help but picture an angsty Blackwall standing on the cliff at The Storm Coast while listening to it.

ETA the actual link...

I see one for us Solasmancers. It's by a French singer and Celtic harp player from Brittany called Cécile Corbel. She's not very well known yet so I didn't find a very good quality video...
It's in French so I "translated" it, just to give an idea of what it says.

"To be continued"

Separated lovers get lost where the wind brings thunder storms. Where what is unsaid, what is hidden, is to be read between the lines.

I asked wise men, I searched in the books, but I found nothing.
And at the final page of our story, I wrote “to be continued”.
At the edge of land, I waited for the rain to come.

Where the waves break silence, love philtres and jealousies, I will hunt for strange Gods and hunt down all the dragons of the island.

I asked wise men, I searched in the books, but I found nothing.
And at the final page of our story, I wrote “to be continued”.
At the edge of land, I waited for the rain to come.

Lyrics in French for those interested in the spoiler below

Spoiler

Song starts at 0:43 (didn't find the way to embed the vid at the correct minute... NOOB SPOTTED)

What a beautiful song! Thank you for sharing!  I just bought it.

Another one for Solas post-break-up.  SEPARATE LIVES by Phil Collins.

I've always liked this one for Vivienne.

(And I think I'd put forward Sophie B. Hawkins' Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover for me sung about Vivienne  )

I'd steal that one for my Hawke with Aveline. I so wish that she'd been romanceable...

Every time I listen to this song I can't help but think of Fen'Harel/Solas.

Korva suggested I post this here. I found it last night when listening to old songs in movies from my childhood. The lyrics struck me as perfect for Cole and how the Inquisitor (if close to him), Solas and Varric feel about him, especially if you make him more of a spirit.

Yeah, I hadn't even considered Springsteen. You wouldn't think it would work and then you hear the lyrics and it clicks very well.

For me, my ultimate Solasmancer song is still Sara McLachlan's Possession. It just brings the feels and keeps them there.

Alright, for a challenge, what about a character like Loghain? Anyone able to think of a song that can nail that conflicted bugger down.

I was just going to post Sara McLachlan's "Possession"... but for Cullen!

For Loghain, I like Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms".
