I was thinking of objective diversity, and I just happened to think about a new objective idea.

Asset Procurement

Your team is tasked with protecting an Inquisition Agent while they go about recovering an object from a fixed location. No enemies will be present in the Zone when it has this objective. When the team nears the agent, the objective will trigger. Once the agent starts recovering the item, enemies will start to pour in and players will need to fend off three waves of enemies during this time; while also defending the agent. The Agent has very high threat reduction, so unless most of the team wipes, they'll largely remain in a safe position as long as the team is doing their part in fighting off enemies. Each wave will become progressively harder, and could potentially add in higher tiered enemies from latter zones if the objective is introduced early enough. If the agent dies, then players will not net a reward and will have to finish off the remaining waves. Succeeding will reward the players with gold, in addition to the Zone being cleared and allowing players to progress to the next Zone.

I'm trying to find other ideas that could work within the framework of the game, but it's kinda hard for me.

Sounds like the hacking objective from Mass Effect 3. Activate a POI and stay in the circle until the data is uploaded.

It might be nice if there were some sort of rift objective. I'm not sure how that would work when none of us have the ghostbuster hand, though. Maybe stay until a group of mages complete a binding ritual?

Tower defending. Place the tower in the center of the zone. Have the complete zone run towards the tower when one ally is near the tower. Rushers don't get too annoyed since you're clearing the zone and it fit's the playstyle, i guess.

Summoners

- Defeat X units standing on summoning circles around the map, progress bar at top, bar fills faster more units left alive.  If it fills players fight a mini-boss. two tier the victory, Killing the boss gives gold, defeating the summoners allows the players to summon a spirit that grants 2x XP for the rest of the level.

Corpse Harvester

- An undead creature enemy moves from the end of the level to the front, killing enemies along the way, each enemy it kills it gets stronger and heals.  Players succeed when they kill this neutral creep.

Ambush (Unannounced)

- At a random moment during the level, players are ambushed by a strong set of enemies (Revenants?).  Players succeed when these enemies are defeated.

Hatchery

- Eggs Appear in clutches around the map.  Players need to destroy the eggs, when attacking a clutch of eggs, if players are too slow, the eggs hatch.  Each clutch destroyed before hatching gives a small gold bonus.

Prisoners

- A cage appears with several prisoners inside.  It takes two player to hold X to open the cage slowly.  During the cage opening 5 waves of additional enemies spawn and attack the players, additionally a timer starts.  Players can stop opening the cage, progress does not reset, and no enemies spawn while not opening, but the longer they take the tougher the enemies that spawn.

Messenger (templar and venatori only)

- An enemy messenger is spotted, when the players engage it will run to the exit of the level, at several moments it stops briefly to rest and a group of enemies comes to its aid.

Rifts (Demon Only)

- Several rifts spawn demons run back towards the entrance of the map, like a tower defense mission, if 20 enemies make it to the entrance, players fail.  After a period of time, rifts close and stop spawning in these demons.

Rifts would be cool. Wouldnt go to elaborate as mages casting together or anything. Just once everything dies the rift closes. Add a bunch of gold once rift is closed instead of items in single player.

Complete 25 Nightmare with no incapacitated party members

Complete 25 Heartbreaker with no incapacitated party members

Kill 5 NM/HB in one day. 10 one day. 15 one day.

As for objectives , party split 2 on each size of zone with a wall in between where you had to open a gate at the end to reunite.

Those wave defending ideas sound good. If they added a bunch more variety of events it would definitely make multiplayer more intresting, that said they could also have an option in the lobby to veto out one or two types. The server then can track the # of vetoed events, the higher the count, the higher % of bonus that event gives you. Event names could also be displayed in brackets when entering the zone.

Some modes I think would be fun are:

  • Fire! - After 1 minute fire will start engulfing the zone from the start going forward, you must race to killing the third group of enemies in the zone so you can destroy the artifact causing it.
  • Swarm - Enemy stats for event are halved, but amount of enemies tripples.
  • The carta - Extra treasure room with a relatively hidden wall that can opened by any class, defended by carta dwarves and a golem boss who hold a lot of money. This room is also loaded with traps.
  • Party - Jumping restores health and mana/stamina, after jumping 5 times you gain a heal over time and speed increase buff, enemies/players explode in to fireworks when killed which damages friend and foe.
  • Release the hounds - All enemies are replaced by various Mabari, lead of course by the armored Mabari, once you engage the first group, the second and third are also aggroed.

Most of these are a bit extreme, but it would break up monotony :P

Instant flashback to the Donkey Kong games.

Make the objectives *mandatory*, just like in me3.  I think this would make the missions a ton more interesting / exciting.

Some of them shouldn't be, though, like the Prisoner's Cage where you need two players. Some regions might have trouble finding full teams and having objectives that are flat out impossible if people get disconnected are not very nice.

Stop The Blood Magic Ritual.

There is a blood mage performing a blood magic ritual. You need to destroy 4 protective barrier pillars and kill the mage to succeed. Failure replaces Zone 5 enemies with a powerful Desire Demon.

Why Desire Demon? because all of the other demon types exist in the game already so they can give us something new to fight.
