...

Seriously, why not put a "Press A" to skip cut scene for all cut scenes? After you've seen it a dozen times you probably don't want to see it again anyway. Also if you fail a boss fight, the last thing you want to do is sit through the cut scene leading up to it.

...

Amen to that!

Actually, an auto-save before any "boss fight" would alleviate that problem... take Therum in ME1 for instance, where you go to find Liara - if you die in the fight with the Krogan + Geth at the top of the elevator it's aaaaaaall the way back to the bottom meaning you have to do a mix of conversation events and an unskippable cut scene (albeit a short one) all over again.

As an aside (relating to something about 3 pages back) ... what have you people got against Lego games?! I like Lego games :P

I'm pretty sure that video already exists somewhere on the internet.

Yes, it's called Skyrim.

**Removed**

While I'm against any kind of toggle, I hardly think that qualifies a person as forward-thinking...at least not how I would define such.  Not sure how alien sex porn equates to enlightened/innovative.  Still if Bioware opted to include something that graphic (I personally wouldn't like it) I would not demand a toggle.  I'd just hit my spacebar to skip through it.

Too funny.

I have to agree with you on this one. There is nothing inherently forward-thinking about the idea of a "Krogan's quads slapping FemProtagonist's ass in full Frostbite 3 glory".

However, you could refer to it as fairly liberal I guess. It's certainly not conservative  ^_^

After changing diapers, delivering 50 German Shepherd puppies, scooping up poop from those puppies, that chest buster scene is nothing.

Also if you fail a boss fight, the last thing you want to do is sit through the cut scene leading up to it. Take that Rannoch Reaper fight. The last thing I wanted to do was start back at the spot where you targeted the reaper in the silo. It was a stupid cut scene. Or those dream sequences which IMO should have been cut scenes, we should have been able to skip those by pressing A since they didn't impact the game at all. You can do skip cut scenes in Halo and Gears, why not Mass Effect?

Or say you just beat the Terminator and you have to get up early in the morning and want to skip to the conversation with The Illusive Man. That's a long cutscene. Why not be able to skip it? Especially after you've seen it a half-dozen times.

This way no nudity filters need to be put in the game. People who don't want to see it can simply press A and opt out.

They won't have "press to skip all cut scenes" because they can be used as loading screens and we all know that people want that because they still beg for elevators.  Now completely skippable romance scenes I think shouldn't be nearly as much of an issue as long as they aren't loading something else in the background.

Why cut-scenes are not skippable? Poor design choices and or programming, is my guess.

You can code a scene to play once and then set the skip flag for subsequent playthroughs in case you die and must restart the mission or position the restart to after the cut-scene.

What?

ME1 was nearly accused from being pornography in TV for showing nudity, it was quite big affair.

Nudity in ME1 is reason why in next installments love interest were always in underwear.

Not with Liara. I saw her hind end in all its glory in 3 :) Scenes like that I like the best. Not too overly pornographic and nowhere near like Tali's gettin rickrolled once a masked character that can be romanced only for it to shift to a different angle to where we cant see her face. Dont even get me started on the photo debacle :o I hope there are scenes like Liara's in Andromeda and the usual banter between characters about women like Donnelly and Daniels had in ME 3 :)

The only line of dialogue that throws me out of the narrative is when Ken Donnelly said "Daddy Bags". No idea which form of English that slang term derived from, but it certainly isn't one from Scotland

Life is strange deals with cut scenes well. Like a lot of things.

Anyway, regarding nudity - if people are so upset by a bit of computer generated nudity, how the hell do they cope in real life?

Weird.

Didn't see his comment but assuming; acceptance of nudity, natural things such as sex = makes you forward thinking in yankee land.

To be honest, one of the first replies, although churlish, sums up the correct answer. "Do you want a baby filter?"

I find it boring that we are allowed to see heads explode, gore and murder and all sorts of horrid stuff - The Reapers' actions were gruesome if you think about it, churning us down to paste, experimenting on us, dissections and all that jazz, not to mention absolutely ruining our minds with psychological warfare. That's all acceptable but showing a bit of nipple isn't?

I hope Bioware go more European in Andromeda and flat out show ******, nipples, bush, vaginas and dicks. Yeah, get the media and Yankee land's Fox news wailing about it, maybe then some smart alec will wake up and realise y'know it's just pixels, its all bloody natural, why the flying hell is it a 'bad thing' in need of censoring.

And no that doesn't mean people want a sex simulator (though you can do that on Skyrim with the sexlab mods), no there's no "need" to be pushing sex in everyone's faces, but it is about time that sex, the natural act of love/romance/doing the deed gets a just and favourable screentime. No one is asking for a full fledged 25 minute porno to rub one out to, they just want people to stop being a prude under the pretext of 'protecting them children' while the MC chops off heads with chainswords in whatever fantasy/sci-fi game is out next.

This is a good question. Perhaps they don't. Perhaps they have press A to skip button. But people actually do have issues with it, so an option to skip the scene altogether would not be out of line - If they have the PG-13 toggle engaged they get an immersion busting: WARNING: Scene contains nudity and character content - press A to skip.

Oh I like that idea - a big title card comes up right before explaining in explicit detail what is going to happen, so they get the best of both worlds - titillation at the thought of what will happen, then being able to make themselves feel better and skip it. Great idea!

Actually no, because I know the difference between an R rating a PG-13 rating. Don't you?

It doesn't seem that you do, if you consider all M rated games to be even somewhat to equal.

For example, the explicit nude sex scenes in TW3 -where there are lingering first person viewpoints of women engaged in the sexual act rendered from motion capture-  are close to, if not straight up, pornography compared to the tamer PG13 sexual portrayals of Mass Effect. This is a problem with the rating system, which has been discussed in this thread, and is part of the discontent which is motivating some of the filter supporters. This isn't to say they are against such content; I'm not. It's only to say that a more well defined rating system needs to be in place. How this relates, in part, to the filter/toggle is since the ratings system cannot be trusted to properly inform purchasers due to lax categorization then the filter can provide some control for the end user. Explicit content creep is another issue related to Mass Effect and the toggle but as you've likely read the thread before jumping to conclusions it would be unnecessary to recount that issue again.

Which rating system would that be?

ESRB? PEGI? USK? CERO? ACB? The dozen others in existence?

As Monica21 made mention of "M" and "PG13" it appeared they were referring to the NA systems and that was the one being addressed.

Well, if you actually read the back of the Witcher box, it does specifically state the following: "Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Alcohol." Which is a pretty fair summary. That's per ESRB, by the way, don't know how other systems detail it.

If someone is going to look at the "M 17+" rating and just assume that all M rated games are the same without spending an extra 3 seconds reading the content descriptors (which are there for a reason), I don't really care overmuch if they get the vapors when they (or their neglected child) actually pops in the game and starts playing it.

Strong Sexual Content is vague and relies upon understanding specifically what the descriptor is implying. Many purchasers will only interpret those descriptors based upon their own understanding of what those words imply. This understanding can vary quite a bit. Should they inform themselves? Of course, but people are busy and put trust in the ratings system and hope that the ratings and descriptors are at least close to their own standards. Vague descriptors and broad categories are misleading and somewhat ineffectual in being able to make informed purchases.
