You're just confident that if they took that into account, you'd get the complete version of the game over there, and the U.S. would be stuck with the crappy censored version. :P

Pretty much.
Maybe that the answer - two different versions; one for the US market with no nudity, sex or profanity (but extra guns, violence and gore) and one for the rest of the world with not so much of a glorification of violence but a bit more sexy fun time for all genders and some proper swearing.

Sorted, end thread.

I just ordered GitS 95 actually. True to my word. About to watch it.

But yeah, generally fan service is a bit more infantile..

Hi,

Can you post the link? Googling Gits 95 gets me nowhere

Thanks in advance

Please, if you want to talk about Watchmen, do it via PMs. Keep this thread on topic.

It's almost as if there used to be a forum section dedicated to things that were off topic...

I can't put my finger on what it was though....

Judging by some depictions of asari I've seen, I definitely think there's a segment of the fanbase that disagrees with that sentiment.

And that would be why I don't google image anything related to video game characters.....

I think the whole fratenization angle annoys me.

I just can't stand anyone who takes it that seriously, when those threads come up occassionally. Like they treat ME like some military simulation. I imagine some dork playing with train sets or something.

Err... I dunno. That's the image in my head. Some obessive weirdo like that, who gets off on minutia. Probably the same people who want to simulate taking a dump in Star Citizen.

edit: BTW, not you Kaiser. You're saying something slightly different.

Why did the mention of fraternization annoy you? It clearly isn't an obstacle to the player having Shepard romance either Ashley or Kaidan, and was just there to add some detail to the romance arcs to make them believable. Rules against fraternization are a thing in real world militaries. Mass Effect of course is a work of fiction and it doesn't need to be an ultra-realistic war sim, but details like that do help make the game universe more immersive and make its characters seem more like real people.

If writers stray too far from keeping their characters or the scenes they are writing plausible, you end up with gems like this:

Oh, I used the Windows movie app (on Win 10 and Xbone). I've been purchasing stuff there myself, but I'm sure there's plenty of online services of your choice. Probably should just search Ghost in the Shell (full spelling) too.

Just for the reason I stated earlier. I think people who obsess over minutiae like that (especially with games and other entertainment) are like the same dorks who grow old playing with trainsets. I might get banned for labeling it so directly, but it's kind of autistic. It's hard to listen to for me.

I appreciate the actual real world guidelines in military, but I just don't have time for it in this sphere.

Not everyone who wants some degree of plausibility in how the characters or the organizations they belong to in game are portrayed is obsessed with minutiae. I wouldn't want an ultra-realistic portrayal of the military aspects for example, because it would make for a boring story. Shepard for example would have never left the ship in that case. I just don't see the mention of fraternization as being an example of the writers letting attention to detail get in the way of the story they were trying to tell.

Personally, as long as the fake future space military lets me have more than 4 haircuts, I'm happy with whatever they want to do.

(Though I'd rather not be in the fake future space military this time. I want the option to play as a xenobotanist or some other crazy thing like that).

Fair enough.. if you don't agree.

There's one other reason I don't like it though. That people who post those opinions have some compulsion to guilt trip people or tell them what Shepard should be. In which case, they're just being pricks and meddlers. Everyone should have their fun. Romance isn't that big of a deal.

Obsess?

I'd suggest that people who "obsess" over "minutiae" like military regulations might be people who:
-- Actually served in the military
-- Want to role-play a character who takes those regulations and / or basic authority / leadership responsibilities seriously

Would those same dorks be better off growing old doing something else, in your opinion?

I appreciate the actual real world guidelines in military, but I just don't have time for it in this sphere.

I generally do. I don't need you to tell me that. I made one statement above about something I've observed over the years.

And then Han simply asked what I meant. It's not like I'm aware of every post around here. What are you even talking about?

That's not as bad as seeing a Green Arrow episode recently where that girl hacked a plane with her tablet (which had a diagram of a plane on the screen).

While she was running.

Not sure what to learn from that. The same fanbase also makes pics of Varrens commit gangbangs on Miranda and Ash.

This fanbase can be awful... makes me stabby.

Just saying.

I didn't forget anything. Now you're quoting my post about Varrens? I thought we were talking about military regulations. The stuff about Varrens has nothing to do with anything on this site. I've run across some strange pics elsewhere. People would get banned if they posted things like that here.

And yet you're telling me to ignore posts about that.... which don't even exist here.

You just sound like you're trying to start a fight. I don't even know what you want now.

I said no such thing - just offered a blanket suggestion to ignore posts that upset you.

It would be nice if you would quit referring to people as dorks / autistic simply because you don't agree with them or appreciate hobbies they might enjoy.

Oh. Well.. Don't read too much into it. They don't upset me to that extent. I was mostly just making a joke about depravity and the sickness of those Varren pics. I know LadyArtifice a little.. She knows that I make fun of the fanbase sometimes.

But it wasn't about any posts here. Just crazy internet stuff I run across every once in awhile. I ignore it when i can. :D

This is beginning to worry me.

If America gets stuck with the edited for tv version of ME:A, that might be my cue to move to London for a few months.

That show just frustrates me so much with this kind of thing. It's the most popular stuff that makes me cringe, too. Someone gets smacked in the head at their desk, or that medical examiner lady comes bouncing on screen with massive platform leather boots.

I'm all "Hiss!"

I'm overwhelmed by excitement at the very idea.

Pubs first. Then curry. Then more pubs! I want to check out every place Anthony Bourdain went to on The Layover London episode.

On topic though, I really hope America doesn't get a censored version of this game. I would be very sad.

You could try ordering from Amazon UK.

I still have old VHS and DVD equipment that is PAL capable. At the time I purchased it, I needed to use a converter, but my current TV is PAL capable.

PAL > NTSC (never the same color)

That's not happening at all.

I think this is a non-issue. Except in places like India or something. I'm surprised this thread is even that long.

I'll still make fun of the more depraved elements of the fanbase though... but that's the internet underground. The Games themselves are fairly tasteful.

DA2 had an option to disable the ridiculous kill animation that had body parts flying around like somebody nuked them. It toned down the gore in general. I used it.

I used a mod to tone down gore in Skyrim too. A bit...

Would have preferred not to have headshots cause a blood fountain in ME3. Still grosses me out.

I'm all for the option of less graphic violence. Don't have a problem with nudity, but why not?

So did I.  I loved the ME1 "sex" scene, I thought it was well done, romantic and optional.  But blood, guts and gore - not a fan.  If it's available I always tone it down.    And if they could give you the option of going to black screen for the romances I'd have no problem with it.  Much better than making out or taking showers with your underwear on.

I'm just now noticing that thing about DA2 having an option to reduce the grisly effects of critical kills. Is that separate from persistent gore? Because I always turn persistent gore off but enemies still explode.
