If people could handle the ME2 and DAO sex scenes, a sex card is hardly going to be an issue.

Not because the cards are scandalous, because they're stupid.

No more stupid then Biowares sex scenes outside ME and DAI.

Definitely as stupid or worse.

I mean, TW1 is almost the exact mirror opposite of a good game in most respects, but they really outdid themselves with the cards. I'm embarrassed for them.

^As a random aside, I enjoyed TW2 well enough, but I absolutely could not stand the original Witcher's gameplay. I've never felt quite so awkward with a game's mechanics before.

Sometimes inspiration strikes and there's no stopping it.

To this day, I think EDI should have been given a male sex-bot chasis, while keeping the female voice.

It would have been progressive, even visionary, in defying gender stereotypes as applied to AI. And it would have been hilarious to make Joker question his sexuality.

What's also comical is that you can avoid getting the vast majority of them.

To be fair, it could be a Free DLC. Bioware has done that before with ME3 and DAI. Thus the people who want that content don't have to pay for anything.

Can't see BioWare (or anyone) running with that since MS charge tens of thousands of dollars to publish DLC on XBL - can't imagine Sony are any different.

That's not happening at all.

I think this is a non-issue. Except in places like India or something. I'm surprised this thread is even that long.

I'll still make fun of the more depraved elements of the fanbase though... but that's the internet underground. The Games themselves are fairly tasteful.

I hope you're right. This thread has attracted some Dev attention.

My fear isn't that they'll implement the toggle being requested, because I still hold the position that doing so would be a logistical nightmare that no developer in their right mind would willingly take on. My fear is that if they did adapt to this mindset it would be to play it safe and make the game more sanitary to begin with.

As has been mentioned, there's also a precedent for adapting the standards by region. As has also been mentioned, I could probably live with that since I could just buy a non U.S. version. I wouldn't throw a fit over it or anything, but I wouldn't be all that enthusiastic about it either.

Regionalization isn't uncommon.

Are you suggesting having content toggles/sliders to give the consumer the ability to set the level of content they would want is better than only being able to access a single version?

There is also the option for the developers to create separate explicit content and sell it as DLC instead of including it in the main game.

Sure, but just because something is common doesn't mean I'm more inclined to like it.

No...I'm not saying that. None of those ideas appeal to me at all. Especially not the last one. My entire position is and has been built on opposing separating that content in the first place. To make the mature content optional implicitly means that it has to be nonessential, which means that they'd be designing the censored version of the game to be complete on its own, and thereby editing the story around those standards.

This is a concept I firmly and adamantly oppose.

EDI should not have been given any human-like body, and video game devs should have other concernes than being "progessive", their job is not preaching.

There are no gender stereotypes regarding AI, we have Legion, and if you watched "I, Robot" you would know about another example of a "Male" AI.

When you buy a game it has a rating, in Europe it also displays what sort of content it contains on the back of the case.

If you don't like the content it contains then do not buy it, political correct people think developers have a lot of time on their hands to do things just for them.

There are many games that you could play that do not have explicit content, you already have an option.

EDI should have been Sophie, the Fenris mech wandering around the cargo bay.

But not all.  And there was no real way to politely refuse.  Turning down the sex usually made him sound like a complete jerk.

I'm incapable of starting a series in the middle, so playing TW3 meant starting from the beginning with the first game, which I had abandoned as unplayable back when TW3 was probably still in its larval stages. The only thing that got me through was a cheat mod that essentially let me ignore the gameplay.

The second was a lot better, but I suspect only in comparison to the first (though the divergent second act was really neat). After playing the third, I'm comfortable saying that the witcher series consists of 1.3 really good games.

They're just bad. Like, "who thought they were a good idea" bad.

It's sort of like the exploding gib kills in DA2. Why would you do that? It's stupid.

I think Ashley is a good example of a companion who would've made sense to limit her romance in ME1 to exclude sex, because she does go on about fraternization and such, though this should apply to Kaidan as well, and provided they survive to the end, finally give in in the face of impending doom. But whatevs. It's all good.

That's actually a good thought. Maybe not for Ashley in particular- she flirts with some pretty blatant sexual insinuations- but perhaps in the future.

I'm not into making a Bioware romance of aesexuality/demisexuality built around the premise (for the same reason I don't support 'hey, did I mention I'm straight' or 'hey, did I mention I'm gay?' romance- I prefer the sexuality to not be a primary consideration), but I do like the idea of relationships in which sex either isn't important (Josephine) or even outright impossible. Romance is as much the emotional as the physical.

You could make a pretty good relationship in which rank and chain of command is a barrier that isn't surmounted, without compromising the sincerity of the relationship. If Bioware ever did something approaching what Fullmetal Alchemist did with Roy Mustand/Riza Hawkeye, I'd be sold- especially if the romance arc's conclusion tied to the player's priorities.

In FMA, Roy and Riza never get together because (in part) Roy goes on his career to rule the country and atone for the past, and Riza is his closest ally. In DAI, the analog would be if the Inquisitor keeps the Inquisition- the 'no fraternization' LI stays with you, but as your subordinate and not a lover. Whereas if you disbanded the Inquisition, the barier is removed and the LI is free to culminate the relationship.

I think you'd get a lot of fans who liked that sort of Consequences. You'd definitely have people talking about how walking away with the LI was a factor/reason for disbanding the Inqusition.

Oh, I know. But Bioware was intent on doing a sex-bot. I just think a male sex-bot would have been better (and funnier).

I think the whole fratenization angle annoys me.

I just can't stand anyone who takes it that seriously, when those threads come up occassionally. Like they treat ME like some military simulation. I imagine some dork playing with train sets or something.

Err... I dunno. That's the image in my head. Some obessive weirdo like that, who gets off on minutia. Probably the same people who want to simulate taking a dump in Star Citizen.

edit: BTW, not you Kaiser. You're saying something slightly different.

There will be a build-in visual guide to filter anything you don´t like, a three step sytem;

1. Shut your eyes.

2. Cover your ears.

3. Sing a song.

Personally I would've really liked EDI to have a chassis similar to a Loki mech.

Personally personally? I wouldn't preferred EDI never get a chasis at all. I'd have been all for re-programing/editing the AI in the body, and letting the ethics/questions of that (can a brainwashed person have 'real' feelings?) be a character arc in and of themselves.

Plus, I'm a sucker for AI/Human relationships that don't have physical interaction. Cortana and Master Chief is an example.

(Though, come to think of it- I can't think of a good male AI love dynamic. Huh.)

I used to have a magazine of trainsets that I spend dozens, maybe hundreds of hours looking through fantasizing that I owned them.

And I do much geekier things. Like Civilization.

I'm also a Master Chief/Cortana fan boy. I actually think overall it's been one of the better "romances" I've seen in the gaming medium.

Kinda surprising, but Hale actually has a halfway decent story.

Crazy, I know.

I can think of a couple reasons for why that might be.

I only wish one of those reasons could be because they've saved that for this game.
