That's largely how I felt. ME2's loyalty missions were a little on the blunt end of the spectrum in terms of throwing companion quests at you, but simply given Bioware's history of focusing on companions, I definitely preferred this to ME1's approach with fewer companions/less narrative focus (Wrex aside).

That's also a huge part of why I enjoyed DA:I so much, as the advisors were essentially 3 extra companion characters.

I do believe companions are the best part of their games, which is why I find Rydia's point so weird. And a bit self-centered  :P

Not Safe For Work - it's not a new thing it's been a forum staple since 1807!

Oh. Hm.. I came from a "work-is-work" and playtime "after-work"  era, I guess.

But, good point for today's environment....  I'll try to remember

Let's finally get those Fornax centerfolds in the game!

I would very much like to be able to buy Bioware games for my grandchildren freely, without having to have long conversations with my adult children, their parents, on subjects of philosophy and tolerance.

While I very much support the idea of including the treatment of diversity, morality, tolerance and associated issues in works of art, and I believe Bioware is an artistic development house, I also very much believe it is the duty of parents to raise their children without being subjected to politically-correct proselytism, which itself is politically incorrect.

Further, the way the stories are set up, if I am a straight male by nature but I wish to role-play a sensitive conversation with gay characters I'd like there to be a way to do so without being confronted with an assumption that my choice was a facile come-on to have virtual sex with those characters.

As an example when, in my enjoyment of the richness of conversation, I wished to engage in a meaningful platonic interaction with Dorian or Kaiden I was almost inescapably subjected to what amounts to sexual harassment by their characters. I would very much like to be allowed to interact meaningfully as my preferred character in a rather more mature, sensitive, and thoughtful manner than previous games have allowed.

The OP's point is, IMO, a very good one and should be considered for inclusion. While the possible conversation branches are formidable, please be as considerate and respectful of 'us' as you might wish we were considerate and respectful of you.

Seriously though, that post was deliberately and calculatedly constructed to hit every troll note relevant to this thread and the BSN at large.

Definitely the highest-quality trolling we've seen here in months.

Should we give him some likes for it?

Umm, with Dorian, just don't hit any responses with a heart icon.  You can have a totally platonic interaction with him then.  Heck even if you are in a romance with him, you can turn down sex without breaking the romance.

With Kaidan, well, you only get two options for every dialogue with him.  If you find you're triggering a romance, pick the other one.  Lack of options actually works to your benefit there.

The problem with overly explicit content/not enough explicit content could be solved by tweaking a mechanism from the very game itself.

Give players dialog options during romance that communicate to your LI just where you wish your relationship to go. Do you want to bed them ASAP? Or do you prefer to take things slow? Or even have an asexual relationship? It's up to you and how you wish to play the romance.

In DA:I, we had the option to deny Dorian sex in the first meeting. The problem was the lack of sex for the remainder of the romance. Players should have the option to choose when to bed their LIs after they've shown interest in having sex with you; before the final battle? After the first kiss? In the end, it's all a matter of allowing the player to measure their advances toward his LI.

I don't know about ironic likes. I think it sends the wrong message.

This is a legit excellent suggestion, as it would actually add valuable RP options.

As great as the romances in DAI are (comparatively) they could still stand to be more detailed and fleshed out, and I think putting different "paths" in there for people to pursue the content they want is terrific.

I do think part of this is we kind of get to the divide between choices and story. There needs to be a firm line of "what is the bigger priority here", telling a story or making it to where the experience is more customizable, and how much of that comes at the expense of character agency.

Because there is only so much those two priorities can be catered to before one starts coming at the expense of another. Being able to control the relationship to the point of deciding when your character is comfortable having sex is all well and good, but when you're trying to write a narrative, that narrative has to have a certain pacing and flow to it, and with a romance story, where sex comes in to be appropriate to that narrative flow might not be where you feel you're comfortable with, but it's where it needs to be for the story they're trying to tell.

Which isn't to say they always hit the mark right.

We can sing the praises increasing player customization all we want, and that is something that has serious virtues, but when it comes to romances especially I think there's only so much control they should give us, because after a point it does get to a level where they aren't telling a narrative story, they're letting us customize our perfect, idealized relationship, and I think it does veer into the dating sim territory at that point.

I do want us to be able to have agency and customize our characters and influence our characters actions and to make choices and have those choices matter. But there does still need to be a story there, and that story needs to have a flow and it needs to hit it's beats, and that applies to the romance stories just as much as to the main stories.

No snitching here - just a reminder to Sartoz to consider those of us who occasionally browse the boards at work. If you have a problem with that, shoot me a PM and we can discuss further.

Characters having personal looks is fine, as long as those looks make sense. Samara wearing the outfit she wears in places that are vacuum, toxic, radiated, etc does not make sense.

Same can be said about Thane, yet you dont mention him.

But I guess since Thane is a male so it isnt an issue ha?

It's rated Mature. Why would you buy them to children grand or otherwise? And if your grandchildren are Adults who's the intended viewer of the game, why would you have to explain anything to their parents?

Im genuinely boggled.

I remember my grandpa raised hell about devil worship, when I wanted some D&D type of artbook. :P

Well there are plenty of dark occult, devil-worshippy type themes in D and D. ;)

Wasnt close with any of my grandparents, but my folks were cool. They let me play GTA 3.. Duke Nukem, Carmaggeddon and all sorts of games I "shouldn't have".

I'm cool with religious beliefs, but I was just a kid who liked art. Some people can be extreme.

My boggle is genuine about Dorian and Kaidan (Kaidan!) being used as examples of 'behavior bordering on sexual harassment' I mean really.
