As is every other news network.

*snip* *snap*

... there's something seriously wrong with american News Networks.

Not that I disagree in principle (I rarely rely on a single news source), but I'm not sure that's the best demonstration of the issue at hand. Usually when the topic of bias comes up, it's made in relation to people wanting to present certain candidates in a more favorable light, or to please their sponsors, or something similar.

This is more "Hey, if we told you guys what happened, people would have been murdered" which feels more appropriate for a national security debate (Ex: How harmful is public knowledge?).

Sorry; not only American news. The friends I have made overseas post NWN1 were quick to confirm that their favored sources were not giving them all the facts. And as I have noted, my Uncle was serving and working overseas, and had the same problems then.

Recommend using multiple sources for information.

To be fair, almost all news networks are biased these days. Here in Germany we get good information... but it's still colored by politics. One has to check several sources for each story just to get to hear all sides.

Don't need to tell about Germany, I'm from there. ;)  And seriously, our major Networks (ARD, ZDF and such) may be absolute Bores, but with the Examples of american News Manipulation mentioned in this Thread alone, everything of that regard we hear about them pales in Comparison.

Oh, definitely. But certain topics are still handled with a certain bias, to make our government look better.

I have no doubt people disagreed, It sounds more like they were angry that the illusion that everything is reported can't be maintained, which doesn't really surprise me.

At the end of the day, I'll at least commend the person who did it out of concern for saving lives than I will for those strictly out to preserve an agenda, whatever it may be. I wouldn't for example rank the people who keep secrets out of concern for national security in the same category as people who attempt to cover up marital affairs, tax evasion, etc.

Keeping their offices open in the area appears to be a possible motive/ agenda to maintaining a secret for 12+ yrs. And this is also how long I personally have ceased using them as a source.

OTOH, have personal experience from visiting clients that with another news source available, they had not heard another side of the issues being discussed before this. And post Katrina, I advised some angry and grieving refugees to change channels occasionally, as they were continuing to see the same reports of damage and looting of their city and homes. Other sources also told stories of courage, generosity, and even humor.

As for the Topic, prefer to not have such content, bit pls add options to avoid it, if possible.

It sounds more like you're delving into conspiracy theories here, to be quite honest. I can't say I'm really a fan of that approach.

No conspiracies needed. This declared omission stirred my interest in the issues; had little interest in these conversational areas before then, and prior to 9.11.2001.

More that it's undefinable and all encompassing.

Both can be true though.

Thank you for the information on the c-bomb...

Heh - I've said this before, I'm from the Sarf-East, we can use the c-word as a greeting, as in "Awright you c**ts?" ;)

... but yeah, as I understand it, there was a definite move within Scottish poetic literature after Chaucer to build upon that theme but push the envelope further to make the humour more irreverent and themes more relevant to Scotland at the time... but you seem to be much better versed in the subject than me. Oddly my family is from around the Canterbury sort of area originally - so I've read Chaucer but my knowledge of his influence beyond is sketchy at best ;)

I'm just going to rudely drop in and drag this thread back on topic (ugh, I know, so rude!) but uhmmm....

I'm all for choice and it isn't a stupid request, it's reasonable, but I guess this is one of those options where it's a question of "does it cost too much resources?". Looking at the content for the toggles in question, it might.

There's also some people who wanted a toggle for homosexuality in the games so a toggle triggers me for certain content does sometimes rub me the wrong way.

And there's always the argument that you might just play another game which does evict the content you dislike.

But in the end this doesn't really affect me so my reasoning/arguments are to a certain degree invalid. The request can still me made and I hope for the OP that you get your toggles.

I still think skippable scenes would be the best of all possible worlds (though I would prefer fade-to-black)

Those who want the nudity can sit back and enjoy it, and those who don't can hit a button and skip past it.

I mean, seriously, how much worse is it than skippable dialogue scenes?

I pretty much said that earlier on in this thread.

But remember, it ruins the artistic intent of the scene and the characters. The authorial meaning is lost if we don't see it, and it affects everyone.

As Bioware contains most nudity and sexual activity within the confines of a Romance arc, by avoiding flirtation with those which I have no interest, it is easily avoidable currently. Even so, I would prefer no nudity at all, but having the option to skip and avoid it is helpful. Such cannot be other games that tend to 'display their wares' more commonly.

And I agree, if the language Toggle option is a viable one, I support it. If not, I shall continue to bench and avoid characters that contain the offensive language. But again, my own preference is not to include it at all.

Someone did mention that they were not able to Escape from such a scene; another reason for added filters.

A reason for skippable cutscenes across the board, maybe. I'm still not convinced that a toggle is anything approaching a solution to anything a toggle is ever proposed for.

Didn't you romance Cass though? How did you deal with it?

This works for me too, as long as the writers geuninely don't care whether or not skipping the scene means that the player misses something.

That is something I have been curious about. Does skippable cutscenes encourage game developers to focus less on cutscene development?
