Yeah, yeah, I get it. I misspoke.

Are there any situations where you have to murder an unarmed civilian to advance the plotline?

Arrival is the first thought that sprung to mind, assuming we're counting dlc.

But keep in mind this is meant in the context of Video Game Ratings. These are typically based around the most explicit playthroughs. You could fairly argue that Paragon or Light Side allow you to circumvent all of the most extreme actions the game lets you commit.

It's more that in the context of Bioware's darker playthroughs, the Renegade + Dark Side stuff, which allow/encourage some pretty sick actions, the idea that Mass Effect can be made acceptable by removing the foul language is more than a bit questionable. Hence why I point out that we're still giving kids the opportunity to commit murder, genocide, stab their friends in the back, etc, etc.

I would never let my child read these religious books. They are not for children and considering the state of the earth in this day, I'd say they aren't for adults either. The fact that YOU see these as children's books is frightening.

And please, tell me about that book for children that deals with genocide... and actually condones and praises it.

Not once did I say they condoned or praised atrocious behavior. That was a value and limitation you placed on those themes. My position is these themes can be written in a way to convey the atrocity and explore virtuous behaviors within it.

As for finding books, libraries and librarians are a wonderful but often underutilized resource.

The burden of proof is not on me. You say they exist, you give them to me.

You asked specifically for genocide.

If the goal is to make the games suitable for kids, that's a whole different thing.

My impression is that the intention of this toggle request is to allow adults to avoid objectionable content. I think most of the other content you've described is entirely optional, so it could be easily avoided.

I personally have no issues with language, but I finally watched part of the video embedded in this post. The discussion about language starts at about 13:00, and I found it worth watching - though I'm still not entirely sure I understand why some are so opposed to language.

Oh no, on that front, I definitely think you're right. I'll take a look at the vid, could be some interesting stuff.

As for Mass Effect, Mordin's death in ME3 involves shooting him right in the back and involves genocidal implications. We could use other examples: the Rachni Queen, people forced to help Saren in his base that you can execute on a whim, the ME2 merc that you throw from a building to his death.

Well, that merc is at the very least an accomplice to the mass murder of Dantius employees.

That would still be more than enough for anyone to be hit with a murder charge, regardless of our own ideas of what he (probably) committed in the past. In that context, he was still defenseless with multiple guns trained on him.

Considering how ridiculous the underwear sex scenes in Origins were, I would say it's good.

It's 5 years since I played the game for the last time and I still have that imagine of Leliana and my female warden dry humping in full underwear in my head. I'm afraid it will haunt me till the end of my days.

That´s excatly the reason why you install the natural bodies mod ;)

No, they are asking for the option to censor certain things.

No, a content filter - I'll summarise the previous 67 pages for you.

It starts with one person asking for a content filter (profanity/nudity) - for the sake of brevity I shall call it "the moon on a stick" - and goes roughly like this:

10: "I want the option to have the moon on a stick"

20: Two other people chime in with "yes, I would also like the moon on a stick" with a few more saying that having the aforementioned astral body on a stick sounds like a reasonable request.

30: A few particularly vocal people bemoan this coarse of action, saying that having the moon on a stick is silly and they really want the moon to remain stickless and anyone who does want the moon on a stick is a poopy head.

40: "I still want the option to have the moon on a stick and my moon doesn't affect your moon"

50: Now some other people point out that attaching an object with a mass of 7.34767309 × 1022 kilograms, at a distance of 238,900 miles, to some foliage may present certain logistical or economic problems.

60: "I believe it's still worth investigating the possibility of lunar object twig attachment - especially since we can have lollipops on sticks!"

70: "The moon is not a lollipop"

80: goto 40

... and I think that about sums it up.

Whilst the concept of deprecating humour is completely lost on others.

Whether that is the case or not trying to frame the OPs request as completely out of the question, now or ever, isn't fair to their position.

The OPs request was to have the option to have the moon on a stick - a phrase chosen because of this:

Bioware could start with the language (data base?) that is not permitted or deleted here on BSN.

Well this will fall flat on its arse; the filter is a load of bollocks really.

In the context of the movie, I'd say it applies equally well to both. Our rating system is, conceptually at least, designed to reflect our attitudes towards this sort of content.

There's only so much that moral relativism can allow for, particularly when the ability to commit virtual murder is on the table.

Possibly, but even that is optional; left up for the Player to choose or not. A Toggle in settings allows much the same for other kinds of content.
