New toggle idea: Anytime violence, profanity or nudity would be shown on the player's screen, the screen goes black and the sound turns off. It'll get switched back on once the scene is over. That's not too hard to implement and would make everyone happy.

Right?

Can I get a Reductio ad absurdum toggle?

Says pretty much everyone with an aversion to underwear, it seems.

If a player chooses to skip over a scene, they are clearly okay with not seeing that particular content.

And seriously, would Cassandra's chat have been any different if it was afterwards, and she was clothed?

Yes, absolutely. The chat is about intimacy, comfort, and her personality. Being naked around someone is being vulnerable about them - we see that as a moment of very personal intimacy. Being fully clothed and standing about Skyhold having a chat about each other has a totally different vibe from being naked in the grass, totally alone.

Was ME1's approach silly?  It seems to be held of as a poster child of how sex scenes should work.

Cinematically it was OK, though I found it silly because I was thinking about the animators actually having to do all of this stuff.

And what is "realistic" to you?  Some people are in relationships for a long time before sleeping together.

And probably the biggest complaint of not having nudity in the game is "Underwear is awkward"

We play as that character.  But we are not that character, unless you're really into self-inserts...

...that comparison just went somewhere awful  :P

I think more romance paths where appropriate would be ideal. If someone wants to hold off the sex and pursue a chaste courtship and that suits the character being romanced then that's fine but sex scenes that make sense should be there too.

I wouldn't say underwear is awkward. I'd say too often its used as a censorship device rather than its enduring presence being there for natural reasons.

I don't see the definition that we play as the character should block us experiencing any aspect of the character's journey. Don't see what reason you have to single out sex as somehow being unworthy of the roleplaying experience.

As much as I like Josephine, I'd rather Bioware not create another LI whose level of involvement with the PC is left to head canon. Real life relationships aren't that ambiguous, so why should the relationships of fictional characters be ambiguous?

Personally i'd much prefer they give people the option to pursue romance whilst postponing the sex element, than splitting out romances into chaste ones(josie) and sexual ones(Cass)

Probably give this a miss then:

Possibly even more so this:

Oh ... and don't go to see this (though it's hilarious):

... or rather do - silly is kinda the point! ;)

They're not just singling out sex, but swearing too ... can't have anything even remotely adult getting in the way of the mass homicide!

Yeah i think swear filters are a level of ridiculous. Surely they have to get rid of the shooting too, maybe tranquilisers instead is what they want.

Nah they're perfectly happy with mass murder as long as it's not got too much ketchup, like this maybe?

At least there wasn't a unicorn...

Luckily, for those that are stimulated by these types of mature erotic depictions there are games that capture this aesthetic of Eros. To characterize all that enjoy such content as juvenile...well, to say that would require looking at more of their posts and painting all with a broad stroke of shallow yellow.

Splatoon is a very sexual game if your mind is far enough in the gutter.

Although at this point I think the discussion has run its course. It's already been said that the general belief of such toggles being financially viable is that they likely wouldn't be and unless somebody has any sort of real evidence that there is a market for this sort of thing, I don't think there's really anywhere else to go with this thread.

Yeah - best thing might be to delete everything after Bryan Johnson's last post and lock the thread really:

I may be the only one to response, does not mean I am the only one who has read.

There is a lot of people that work here and lurk, we discuss things that happen on the forum or other medium all the time.

Also as was indicated by Helios you are not going to go to the polls for every little thing. If I had to guess someone in our focus tests would have brought this up as something they wanted if there was a significant portion of the audience that actually wanted it.

Will we fund a poll/survey explictly for this? I see that as very unlikely. I believe the onus is on you to prove there is a market for it.

... and we are done here.

Though I was quite enjoying the discussion on sleeveless attire.

As much as some wish this thread was done, they are welcome to leave. Or perhaps they could use an option to Ignore those that made the those posts vanish that created annoyance. What a concept!

Choice; a wonderful thing. Hope it makes in as a filter Toggle for Bioware games.

It's not that I wish the thread was done but rather that unless you have some kind of evidence that there is a market for a toggle there isn't anything left to actually say that wouldn't just be repeating yourself.

Pretty much all we're doing in this thread at this point is either off topic discussion about sleeveless attire, or the two sides being passive aggressive towards each other(which has really been around since the start of this thread).

Clearly we need a thread discussing fashion of the Andromeda universe and how people need to wear vests.

But discussing the filter toggle goes against the perceived holy writ of a developer. Closing the thread is the only option to their thought as their arguments begin and end on the word of an authority figure, that couldn't possibly be a fallacy.

I don't think it's so much people wanting it done per se, but more that there's little else that can be said on either side of the fence that hasn't already been stated repeatedly.  If it keeps going...(shrugs).

If ME2 is anything to go by, they should offer excellent protection in a vacuum.

Honestly, if BW wants to add a toggle, great.  I don't really care.

My irritation stems more from the principle of the thing, and people's seeming inability to adopt personal responsibility for the media they consume and censor themselves.

You could always simply not make absurd arguments to begin with, so the need for others to waste massive time and resources for us to toggle the nonsense out of them would be unnecessary.

Much like you could always simply not play games with mature content labeled on the box, so the need for others to waste massive time, resources and useful content on a toggle would be unnecessary.
