Aye, 'swearing like a trooper' is a oft used phrase over here in the UK. As usual, Elhanan makes no point at all.
Will pit my experience against those using Hollywood films as their source.

I served seven yrs, and was discharged as an E-6. Was hardly an exemplary soldier, but served with many who were; both enlisted and Officers. And if one of the former were to swear to one of the latter, being benched would not be their greatest issue. Lesser ranked Officers are included.
And age has little to do with maturity....
I spent six years in the Army...the last few in an infantry company in the 82nd. NCO's and Officers alike were dropping F-bombs left and right and no one gave a crap. As long as a lower rank is not directing it toward someone of higher rank, there were no issues. I could call a subordinate a F-ing idiot within earshot of my XO or CO without worries. A subordinate could comment: Serg., this work detail F-ing sucks. Of which I would respond: Shut the F up and get back to work. In the rare case when someone stepped over the line, the most common corrective action was spending the next 1-3 months working an extra 4-6 hours/day plus weekends. Given how precious little free time soldiers have, that usually adjusted the attitude and discouraged repeat offenders. Not sure what branch and capacity you served, but I apparently had a different experience altogether.
Sure, profanity is used between people of equal ranks or to people of lower rank. There is a ton of it though.
I don't think there are too many jobs where profanity is used as often or casually as in the military.
Depends on the environment. I hear PhD scientists swear all the time over here, provided they're not giving presentations/ involved in job interviews.

My neighbor served in Vietnam in the Marine Corps. He served as a chopper gunner back in 68. It's a lot different in a combat zone than it is in a non-combat area. Non-combat areas can be all nice and clean. But in a combat zone no one gives a *edited*what you say. They care if you get the job done. When writing in a combat zone, it should reflect that.
Bioware writers also don't have any idea of how people advance in the military. That was a major beef of mine. Williams should have been an Operations Chief at most. Kaidan in three years, perhaps a Captain (Marine Corps rank - but I guess the writers thought that would confuse people), so why not a Lt. Cmdr? Don't make Major = Captain. Kaidan doesn't jump to the equivalent of a bird colonel in three years.

Profanity
You're not wrong, but as I see it it's more like going to KFC, ordering chicken wings and insisting that you want bones removed from them.
What I don't get about all this is that there are people who have no problem with murdering hundreds of inteligent beings, but get twisted beyond recognition because of occasional swear word and pretend nudity/sex. Also double standards. Naked butts in diaper commercial (which I find, circumstances considering, disgusting) are completely ok and cartoon nudity in games causes riots.
Which if enough people wanted boneless chicken then it wouldn't be a bad idea for KFC to do, even if you personally wouldn't order it =P
I don't understand it either. I'm mostly just pointing out that A. it's not actually censorship and B. if it can be proved that there is actually a market for it, it wouldn't be a bad thing for BioWare to look at.
The main thing is that the current belief is that it wouldn't be financially viable.

Click on the link at the top for "Bioware Posts" and read Bryan Johnson's. It's not financially viable. That's literally been everyone else's point for 60 pages.

Maybe you should go and read the posts, since I'm in there clarifying Brojo's point about the cost of such a feature =P
The point was that it's probably not financially viable. That means that on the off chance that it actually is, it is up to the people who want this to actually prove it. That's generally how wanting a particular feature goes, you have to get enough support to show the developers that maybe this is something worth looking into.
However as I've pointed out already, I'm not one of the people who actively wants it.
Didn't matter what Kaidan or Ashley became. Spectre beats rock beats reaper beats marauder shields.
But Spock beats specter, and lizard poisons Spock, and Maurader beats lizard.
I'm from country, where military service was mandatory. Among all of those [basic military service] personnel rank was a non-issue, lenght of service was all that mattered. So a senior private could tell his junior CO sergeant to go F himself and nobody even blinked. Also when your CO is a guy who lives next door and is your friend for more than 10 years, rules get bent. Once I (corporal) basically yelled (I remember saying 'You must be F-ing kidding me') at my superior officer ( Lt. Colonel and professional soldier) and all he did was stand there, looking as if his toys went down the drain. No punishment, no nothing. Different countries, different customs.Yep; far different experience. Served at HQ Battery 114th FA in FDC as Chief Computer OP. Lots of top brass; lots of cussing, but nothing like that. The subordinate would have been removed for a lengthy period of time. And I am guessing that if Vega had done that same routine in your unit (ie; the defiant attitude, smashing the shuttle, the cursing, the nicknames, etc.), it might have gone a bit differently than depicted. And an Officer hanging out with Non-Comms at a bar? Cannot recall that either.*Note: This is from my faded grey cells; tried to be accurate*

I think you mean Bond beats Spectere ![]()

Yeah, gotta say the whole Ash/Kaiden advancement was beyond comprehension. Especially Ash jumping from enlisted to a mid-level commissioned officer, bypassing 3 or 4 ranks along the way. Not sure about Naval and Marine ranks, but Army NCO's transitioning to an officer might bypass 2nd Lt. to start at 1st Lt, but they would need 3 years minimum and spend time as a Company XO to be eligible for Cpt. A Cpt. would need 3-5 years with time in a Command position to make Major. Not sure where the h*ll Lt. Cmdr would fit in there, but Ash attaining that rank in 3 years is beyond implausible.

Doctor Who trumps all...can't beat a lord of time and space;)

I'm an adult its rated M for mature, I don't need facts or scenes hidden from me or babied down.
I like the nudity and adult content.

Then leave the Toggle off if and when it gets included. Thanks!
Thanks for paying for the toggle.
I swear this thread has more cycles of people saying they don't want "kiddie content" and people clarifying it's a toggle you can turn off than the galaxy has had Reaper cycles.

Or just buy another game that doesn't have adult content. It shouldn't be incumbent on all devs to create a toggle for everything.

One thing I will note is that there really doesn't seem to be much else out there that is like Mass Effect.
I would love it if there was, mature content filters or no, but I can't really find anything like it.
When I buy mature content for any other media, no-one stops me and clarifies what type of mature content it is, that's for me to investigate and make an informed choice based on my own opinions of what is appropriate for me. Why gaming always seems to have these extra layers I've no idea when classification for gaming was so hard fought - doesn't stop feckless parents from buying their children these games but that's not my problem. It wasn't that long ago that (while a tasteless concept) Custer's Last Stand was consigned to porn stores, because it had some pixelly (VERY PIXELLY) breasts in it. I'd rather not see things degrade back to that. I don't think (I don't think?) anyone is asking for full penetration, just sensible scenes where characters shower like sane people and if they're joined in said shower by another, there's no need to go full on Debbie Does Dallas but again, showering like sane people. It just looked ridiculous.
