One thing I will note is that there really doesn't seem to be much else out there that is like Mass Effect.

I would love it if there was, mature content filters or no, but I can't really find anything like it.

Cyberpunk seems to be very similar in concept, Star Wars the Old Republic, Knights of the Old Republic. They all seem to be RPG in space with various races and romance.

Well part of what I was talking about was the blend of action combat and RPG in a sci-fi setting, though cyberpunk is similar enough that I'd accept that.

KotoR's combat makes me want to nuke it from orbit, and ToR is basically just WoW.

Deus Ex is the closest thing I can think of off the top of my head, and I'm definitely looking forward to Mankind Divided.

While I love the Kotor franchise, the only entry that isn't more of a classical rpg is a second generation hotkey mmo, their not very similar to mass effect if only looking at gameplay.

Or just buy another game that doesn't have adult content. It shouldn't be incumbent on all devs to create a toggle for everything.

I have; skipped TW3 and purchased DAI for better compartmental control.

I think you mean Bond beats Spectere  :P

Speaking of which, I am fully hoping/expecting Spectre to be amazing. All the ground work is there for a great movie.

Yeah, but Cyberpunk is...well, cyberpunk. And it's being developed by CDPR no less. If people are unable to enjoy Mass Effect because of language/violence/nudity/gore levels, what makes you think they will enjoy Cyberpunk?

I'd ask that about M-rated games in-general

I'd lower that down to T-rated games on occasion as well. . .maybe even E games. . .

The person I responded to stated that mature content filters or no. It's not about people who can't play M rated games but play M rated games. I was listing games that are similar to ME in nature.

Was wondering about that too, CDPR generally aren't afraid of actually showing explicit things on screen rather than just telling you about it, if they think its going to enhance the game for the intended demographic.

Not really. There are some M games that don't have some of the things being argued, and people may be fine with some of those or not others. For example Gore isn't something you have to worry about in shooters like Halo. They just fall down and there is maybe a tiny bit of blood on the ground or wall where they were shot.

which is why Halo doesn't really deserve an M rating, and Halo 5 is even losing it

Sorry. I didn't see that part.

Was wondering about that too, CDPR generally aren't afraid of actually showing shitty things on screen rather than just telling you about it, if they think its going to enhance the game for the intended demographic.

That's the number 1 thing I'm worried about with that game: CDPR being too CDPR. I want to give them another chance, and I really like Cyberpunk stuff, but if they make it too much like the Witcher then I'll be very sad.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. That's the first T rated Halo game since Halo Wars. Cool.

I extend my example to other shooters like Battlefield and Call of Duty then, since they are similar.

Kinda why I'm really looking forward to The Mandate.

It's not gonna be out for a while ... but I am more psyched about it than pretty much any other game atm though.

I really hope they don't tone down the f***ed up bleak dystopia - that's what Cyberpunk is all about and if anyone can do it justice, IMO, it's CDPR - you may be worried about it being CDPR, for me that's a big selling point.

I really don't think any video game can do justice to a pen and paper RPG because they have to meet what we imagined and created over years.

Fair point - though it is possible to make a decent computer game RPG based on paper 'n' pencil games... a few have done it well; NWN2: Storm of Zehir and the new Harebrained Schemes Shadowrun games come to mind.

If anyone has a decent chance of making a good stab at how I imagine Cyberpunk - CDPR would be the team I'd go with.

Not to mention CDPR has no experience with creating a protagonist that can be customized by the player to the extent Cyberpunk would need to be to do it justice.

True, but what I mean is several times they went dark, edgy, and morally ambiguous solely to be dark, edgy, and morally ambiguous in the Witcher games. Doing it too often for no real reason tends to become detrimental. Despite being in a dystopia, all franchises in the cyberpunk genre have some light to them.

So because they've never done it before that's a reason they shouldn't be trusted to do it now?

You know that Mike Pondsmith is working with CDPR on this?

Unfortunately I can't read Polish - but as I understand it, from a Polish work colleague who's a fan of the Andrzej Sapkowski series, it's dark and morally ambiguous because the books are dark and morally ambiguous.

... anyway, this is getting somewhat off-topic now and I've had enough posts deleted in this thread for that so I'm gonna drop it ;)

If anything, its the gameplay that worries me the most about cyberpunk, its likely going to be a rather radical departure from what their previous games played like, which is uncharted territory for them.

The same could be said of ME1 though ... it wasn't perfect but BioWare did make a pretty good stab at it; it's still a great game despite feeling a bit clunky now.

... ok, now I'm dropping it :)
