The Elven Gods were dreamers. They reached the Fade and learned to manipulate it, showing themselves like "gods" to the people. Maybe they could also have entered the Fade phisically, but didn't because they saw the corruption.

They fought a war for power, 7 of them were defeated, maybe their mortal bodies were killed while in uthenera (by Solas/Fen'Harel?)

Their "souls" remained trapped into the Fade for centuries, then they spoke to the Tevinter Magisters makin' them believe they were different gods, not the defeated elven ones, but the Tevinter Ones. convincing them to find a way to reach the Fade and makin' them believe there was a Golden City ecc. ecc. They of course knew of the corruption but needed to be rescued so didn't tell the Magisters of course.

When the Magiters entered, the 7 possessed dragon bodies to reach Thedas and went to hide underground to escape the darkspawn and avoid corruption.

Flemeth/Mythal was one of them. Maybe Solas/Fen'Harel had free access to both the hideouts were the original elven gods slept to enter the Fade, and was the one who murdered the 7 while in uthenera. Maybe he is called the Dread Wolf because while in uthenera he showed himself as a Wolf in the Fade, maybe pretending to be a spirit and gaining trust from both sides.

After all the events described, Solas was exiled to Solas'An maybe by the winners of the war who discovered his true identity, or maybe he exiled himself for some reason...

It's just theory.. speculations.. but I think more or less this could be the truth.. I'd like to read you.. maybe I forgot important details that could invalidate this theory?

That is actually a very good twist,it goes hand in hand with the theory i though of before Da:I came out. But if that is true then the people who played DA2 just made another one, the quest with the half elf who was a dreamer. (That is if you don't make him tranquil)

Post DAI and the focus on more 'real world' issues like the mage-templar war I get the feeling that they're going for a more grounded story arc in Dragon Age, at least at the moment. While the Dreamer theory does sound very plausible, in my own opinion the most likely explanation for everything is going to be that the ancient elves were a race of high nosed slave masters who no matter how enlightened still faced the petty issues faced by people everywhere.

They probably tried to build some kind of bioweapon/ power source, probably, just probably, to use against the newly arrived humans who would go on to become the Tevinters. However their attempts failed and the taint was born (supported by the fact that the Darkspawn Emissaries don't need the Fade and draw their magic from the taint).. The taint corrupted Arlathan and the chief among the Elves got divided on what do to next, maybe some even got blighted, leading to a huge civil war that ended up in the destruction of the Elvhenan and the cutting off of Arlathan from the real world to contain the Blight. Thus Arlathan became the Black City and the Tevinters built their empire on the ruins of the elves.

However not all Blight was removed because the ancient dwarves who it seems had extensive links with the elves also contracted the taint as evident from the Ancient Thaig in DA2.

So yeah, I know the theory leaves a lot of hole to be filled, like who actually called the seven priests to the Black City and why are the Archdemons dragons...but pretty much everything can be explained with minimum assumptions.

I also think the Orb maybe had the power to protect from corruption, and maybe you are corrupted if you phisically enter the Fade... the Inquisitor and companions did enter, but maybe the Anchor worked as a protection as it came from the Orb...

Still I can't explain why the corruption was there, maybe it's nothing but the effect mortals have when entering the Fade phisically... and there is no evil plan behind it, it's just so... probably the Magisters entered phisically but without the Orb, that was in the hand of Solas already...

Very often BioWare came out with a very simple and logic explanation for this kind of stuff, the explanation is already there... we just can't see it...

The same happened with many Mass Effect series narrative details, for me... they appeared to be so obvious only when I played ME3... before that time I just couldn't see them
