I finally decided to build a pipe for this tileset, and integrate it in a tile, just to see how it looks like.

It seems ok for me, even if I still have some texture work to do to avoid this slight stretching one can see in the bend.

There's something funny about this pipe : it's not obvious, but the diameter of the upper part of the pipe is slightly smaller than the lower part. I had to use this trick because otherwise the upper part appear larger than the lower one, even if the diameter of the two parts is exactly the same. Not sure why... must be some optical illusion, I think  ^_^

Are there plans for a cracked/damaged version of the pipe so we can do placeable swaps for quests?  Also valves, and vents, and knobbly bits for pipes?

It's a me, Mario! : instead of the wings that dragon disciples get, you grow a manly mustache. This mustache grants +4 to all Charisma checks with princesses.

World 8-4: while other classes are limited to 30 levels, you have 32 levels.

Special abilities: Enlarge Self 1/day, Fireball 1/day, Animal Companion (Dinosaur).

A closer view of the cracked pipe. This one was made with a texture I painted, and a transparency alpha layer. The result is interesting, I think.

A screenshot with some of the pipes I made so far. For poly count reasons, most of these pipes have no end, like this one, that's why I made the two caps (open and closed) one can see on the first screen.

 

There's still a lot of variants to build, but I can already make some interesting structures, like this one (more suited for a gas plant than a sewer, though ^_^ ).

Make me  want to redo some old map of that steampunk server.

 

Btw do you plan on adding LoD to the pipe.16 face cylinder could be easily reduced to 8 for LoD 1.

I don't think I will make LoD, as it would require to rebuild an entire pipe for every model I've made so far. A lot of work !

 

In addition, most of the polygons doesn't come from the side number of the pipes, but from the bolts. An efficient way to lighten the models would be to remove the bolts and replace it by a simple texture (you can see this on one of my models).

Using an aggressive normal map to make non-existent bolts seem to pop out of an otherwise flat plane might be the way to go. Chances are players will never zoom in far enough to notice the difference anyway.

Hello,

 

back to work after a looong break... just in time to say that the sewer tileset is now over, which means that all the essential tiles to make an area are available.

 

The last thing I made lately is an entrance to my sewer. Here is a first try :

- screen 4

 

The last piece to build is a second type of entrance, a manhole. After that, I think the tileset will be ready to upload.
