Can't log out when temporarily banned.

Meilleure réponse Jesse Reid , 24 août 2015 - 09:48

It is just part of the forum software not something we specifically turned on. It is another hurdle to prevent people from viewing the forums when they are banned and obviously is not intended to be 100% effective.

There are also bans that just prevent you from posting but still let you view the forum but I'm not sure how often those are used. Aller au message complet »

This is just FYI. During a temporary ban there is no way to log out. Visiting the forums goes to the ban notice page. Available links including the sign out button all lead around back to the ban notice. Maybe it's intentional but if not you should know. I guess I could clear my browser cookies etc but I don't want to have to clear my browser just to avoid being stuck on the ban notice page. To browse even just in read only requires an incognito tab.

That's kind of the point. If they let you log out, you can just dodge the ban with a secondary account.

Just live through it. 24 hours without BSN hasn't killed me, it won't kill you.

You've only ever been banned for 24 hours, that's cute. Seriously though if you're logged in when banned there's no way to visit the site even in read only mode, that seems to me to go above and beyond the intent of a ban that is, according to the ban message iirc, a ban from posting to the site. Again I was just stating this as an FYI, I wasn't belly aching about it. I thought they might want to know because it may be a case of something working not as intended.

Just use another browser. And don't log onto your banned account, otherwise that browser won't work.

Otherwise, it works the way they intended it to work. They specifically don't want you on the BSN while you've been banned. It might still be in the site rules, but the whole point of a ban is to tell you that you aren't welcome to the BSN for whatever amount of time, and that they don't want you here.

Edit: I'll probably end up banned for this.

I've been banned a couple times... Sure I was like "the hell?" but it's been by different mods each time. It seems they like taking turns as well.

And I found other forums to visit. Since the mods here are so sensitive I have no intention of creating another account unless I get perma banned. I'll just simply wait another week or two.

In all honesty I think it's clever of them, I'll give them credit on that. But simply use another browser and hope you don't have a tattle tale waiting to report you for ban evasion. I know there's already a few on the forums. I'm also not listing the ones who I think are tattle tales. That's on you to find out.

Not being able to log out shouldn't be intended, as being logged in all the time is a security issue waiting to happen. Besides, that's hardly a sufficient way to avoid banned users making smurf accounts to bypass the ban. Anyone who wants to do that, can do that without any problems.

OP is giving valuable information for the webteam.

Maybe the true punishment is being forced to say on the BSN?

It is actually on purpose. It was to prevent people from using second accounts to circumvent bans. At least, I'm 99% sure it was.

Clear the forum cookies and that logs you out.

That, or use a different browser.

I have no idea why they thought that blocking suspended users from reading the forum was a good decision. It just takes three clicks to read again, so it's not like this is even a remotely secure option.

Never. Nor is any mod using the option to let warning points fade after a year or whatever time period is appropriate.

You can't even message Mod1, not that the other mods ever answer. The reasons for suspensions are not transparent and if they even link to the post in question, it doesn't help you at all since they deleted it.

So you don't know what exactly you did wrong, you don't know what those warning points mean and you don't know how long they'll be there.

That's what moderation looks like on BSN.

Ok thanks. Like I said I hope I didn't sound like I was complaining, I just didn't know whether it was intentional. Good to know about the different types of bans and warning points, interesting stuff.
