Bit of a silly question, I know. As far as I can tell it's just a simulator and no real damage is done. However, I'm on an ironman run of ME3, so I need to know if I'm taking a risk with my commander's life by doing the missions. Obviously, I fully accept that I'll be taking a risk with my commander's pride ...

Nope. Except for this one incident once you get 9999 and you buy all the upgrades.... no spoilers

You can "fail" and choose to either accept the results or retry. It will be up to you to decide if failing is the same as dying.

Ok, thanks. I only consider my commander dead if I get the reload/quit screen. However, I guess I'll have to accept the results, rather than retry,

Yes you can die, but only in a special mission.

Just out of interest, is that special mission hard? Rate it vs the boss battle in the main citadel dlc mission.

I've never done the Armax stuff before, but I think my ironman run demands it.

Its pretty easy, they will just unleash 2 of each most powerful unir of each faction (banshee, prime, atlas and praetorian)

Ah ok, that's a relief. I thought it might be three Shepards, or something :-)

If you play the game on Insanity, (I don't know about the rest) you will find the Armax Arena matches easier, even that special mission is much easier than the other missions outside the strip. You may find the Mirror Match hard. For me it was the hardest, even though I find the rest of the game quite easy on Insanity.

That's the Mirror Match and it's harder.

The mirror match is by far the most difficult.

in Mirror Match, you get several sets of your own blood-thirsty Shepards of all classes who are dying to kill you.

Easy? I found it one of the most difficult fights in the game. Not as bad as the mirror match which is the most difficult and not as bad as the Citadel dlc boss battle but, still. It killed me the first time and I was only playing Hard Core. Admittedly, I'm not the best gamer in the world but I don't die that often!

It helps if you know what's coming, mind, but there's a bit of a mislead so you don't necessarily equip correctly or choose the right squad mates unless you know what to expect (It was 18 months since I'd last tried it so I had forgotten the details!)

I took a bit of a risk in my ironman insanity run and decided to just 'go for it' without having done it before. It's not that easy, but it wasn't too bad, but then I am arming my squad with N7 Typhoons, which some consider to be easy-mode or even cheating - it's a valid point, I think, but for ironman I'm gonna take any legitimate advantage the game throws at me. Anyway, it quite often happens that my squadmates just forget how to hold a gun and I end up having to solo the content.

I brought Kaidan and Tali in my first pt with Fatal Error. I didn't know it was a mixed fight so I spec everything for fighting Geth. I had to micromanage Tali while avoiding Praetorian lasers. Her AI Hacking is useful on Geth Prime/Turrets/Drone but its still hard (particularly because Tali aren't that effective against Armor). In the next playthrough, I used Kaidan-Miranda pair and frankly I just leave them as decoys and focus on killing everything one by one.... and they didn't die. I'm a proud mama.

Heh, I'll use Typhoons for the clone fight, and I'm not even trying ironman. The rest of the time, though, they get Revenants if I am using assault rifle people. (I generally stick with biotics and techies though, like Liara, Javik, Kaidan and EDI. Even with Kaidan I have him use the pistol with a power amplifier.)

I have a noob question.  Is the Armax Arena part of a paid DLC or is it free?  If paid is it the Citadel DLC?

It's part of the Citadel DLC.

In my first try, when I didn't know what to expect, I had taken Garrus and Kaidan. Garrus was the most effective, even better than me. Nonone died then and it was easy and fun on Insanity. Later, you already know who to take with you. For me the hardest one is the Mirror Match. Even the clone fight is not that hard. However, I'm gonna try the Mirror Match again to see if I still find it very hard.
