I've been playing the game for about 15 hours now and everything works just fine except for one single problem (spoiler alert!):

I've gained access to the mission to help Miranda re-settle her sister on Illium but every time I try to actually land on Illium, the loading screen comes up (as usual) and then the game crashes. All the other available worlds work perfectly and I haven't been experiencing any other issues so far.

To reproduce this crash, I do the following: Open galaxy chart -> fly to Illium -> enter orbit -> Illium information screen pops up -> choose "land" -> loading screen appears -> after about 5 seconds the game crashes and jumps back to Windows

My specs:
- Windows 7 x64
- Intel P8700 Core Duo 2,53 GHz
- 4 Gb Ram
- nVidia 9400M GFX
- DirectX 9.0c

Unfortunately Windows 7 doesn't give me any more information on the error except the usual "program hat to be closed"-stuff. I guess that's one of the "great" new "user-friendly" features of Win7 . However, this issue really bugs me because I have to actually play Illium in order to get access to two new team mates...

Anybody else having this issue?

I'm actually having a similar problem as saw1188 here. I can walk around initially, but when I access the cargo hold (or whatever it's called) it freezes. also if I talk to liara, it freeze right after I leave the place. I didn't have this problem before. It only started happening after I install some downloadable content.

I am have the same issue and I don;t know what is the issue is . . . I don't know if its my comp (upgraded Alienware area-51) this is the first time I played mass effect 2 on this new computer. All i was fine, I recruited Thane and was going to get samara, then as soon as i hit the hallway under liaras office the game crashes . . . which is strange since it worked fine when i recruited thane . . . is it win 7 or the game? I run it on steam, i checked the integrity, defragged, and re-installed the game. But it still crashes! Whats up?

Please keep separate error in different forums people.

I am also having the intial problem with the game crashing when I try to land on Ilium. This will be my first visit there. I am also having a x64 Win7 but run the game from my dvd's.
Strange indeed...

:o
EDIT: I've managed to fix this in case someone else stumbles onto this thread. Simply reinstall the entire game once again, sort of like a repair (and remember to reinstall all DLC again) then it worked like a charm for me without any admin rights or simular.

Had the same problems as folks above. Re-install didn't work, but turning off motion blur in configuration seems to have solved the problem. The Shadow Broker DLC seems to cause all kinds of issues on Ilium.

Yeah, After I installed shadow broker DLC, I keep on crashing when running past the door at the bottom of the stairs going to Liara. It just freezes.

People have found that lowering grpahics settings for going through this area sometimes helps. Others have gotten around the problem by running backwards past it.

I have a thread going which is discussing the various problems Win7 users seem to be having after installing DLC.

http://social.biowar.../index/5698156/

So far, a very patient and legendary bloke called AureateFlux has done a lot of testing, installation, uninstall, reinstall to work some things out about this. I cant promise this will work for you, but its worth giving it a try.

His solution is:

Uninstall ME2, plus all of the DLC. When asked if you want to keep saves, say yes.

Remove all ME2 entries from the install location on your drive.

Reinstall ME2, then re-install the DLC.

I know it sounds like a pain, but it is a solution for now. We're gonna keep hammering away at this until we find a direct cause and/or fix.

yea I've been having this same crash issue, but as mentioned previously I was able to work around it by turning down every single graphics setting to pretty much nuttin. Much to my surprise there wasn't a huge graphical difference like you'd see with some games (either that or my crossfire setup settings doesnt show it). I plan on turning them all the way back up after I go to meet thane, but I'll always turn them off whenever I go through that stairwell area by liara. An annoyance yes, but much easier than reinstalling the whole thing only to find out it wont work.

Win7 64-bit, 580GTX w/latest non-beta drivers, etc. Running game full-screen at 1920x1200.

I followed the "turn down the graphics" advice and narrowed the offending options to "Dynamic Shadows" and "Light Environment Shadows" found on the in-game graphics option list. I can run everything else enabled w/o an issue but if I turn that on and try running through the tunnel under Liara's office - boom major crash.

Not sure if it's the culprit, but there's a light source object embedded in a wall over a galaxy news terminal; you can see it as you first enter the large room after passing through the crash-prone hallway.

Oh and I'm running 1.02 of ME2 with all DLC except Arrival. Installed ME2 then patch then DLCs (in alphabetic order according to their file names).

Oddly enough, it only seems to be a problem after talking with Liara...

- First time on Illium I ran around and did side quests before visiting Liara - no crashes anywhere. After obtaining Liara's hacking quest I crashed whenever trying to go through that hall near the base of her stairs.

- Second time (restarted mission) I ran toward Liara but talked to people/did quests on the way to her stairs (Concierge, Rachni message, Gianna's quest). Got Liara's hacking quest and had no trouble until after I entered the Eternity - any attempt to re-enter the crash hallway resulted in a crash.

Out of frustration I did a search and found this thread; read about reducing graphics and did that - now I'm able to explore Illium once again but without the crashing.

Added screenshot showing object embedded in wall:

Found another working solution... changing to window mode and save after passing the crash point, change back to full screen and you should be all set...

Thanks jfc1969 switching to window mode let me continue playing I found the best way is just to set it to window mode (no border) that way it appears as fullscreen but lets you play without crashing.
