I am playing a 2h qunari warrior and unlocked Reaver specialization tonight.  I respec'd and have all of the Reaver passives, which includes "Terrifying Fury."

I went to the Western Approach to work on Abyss and also to take Griffon wing, and in total I think I "feared" myself 4 or 5 times.

I have seen something similar in MP with Katari taking Grisly Mutilation (basically the same thing), but I didn't think this affected SP because my very first playthrough I was a Reaver and I don't remember this happening in that run (was human noble).  Does this only happen on Qunari characters with this passive?

Maybe this had something to do with FF being on?

Yeah I don't know that could be contributing.  But in MP there is no FF at all.  I assumed "Grisly Mutilation" used more or less the same code for the fear bit as "Terrifying Fury."

I will mess with it some more.  I know it definitely proc'd when I charged a Terror and also a merc/bandit dw assassin unit (don't remember their exact name but they are like Stalkers).  It might be related to proc'ing on units that can't be affected by fear.

I was only able to play for a little while last night, but when I turned FF off and went back to the Hinterlands to mess around and fight the dragon, I didn't proc fear on myself.  But I am not sure I fought enough total enemies for a valid test.  I was also pretty busy today so I didn't get a chance to play, but I think I can fool around with it more tomorrow.

Amusingly enough, when I first loaded the game (in Western Approach / Griffon Wing) there was a Hyena right off the bad that I charged and when I hit it, I was "feared."

In any case, once I get this figured out I will probably end up dropping Terrifying Fury since I want to finish the run with FF.

I think @drakan-heart is right. Since Terrifying Fury is an AoE and since FF is supposed to apply to all characters in an AoE, including the caster, maybe this is "as designed"? In any case, worth a note in the GUIDE thread as either a suspected bug or an unexpected FF consequence.

It is oddly sporadic, or there is some variable I haven't figured out.

Today I played a bit more with FF on.

-Went to find the Seekers.  I was Level 14, and most enemies there were 11.  I was able to proc fear in enemies several times with my crits, but did not proc it on the Inquisitor or companions.

-Went to Exalted Plains to just fool around picking up shards and help Solas (didn't actually get around to that).  Enemies were again Level 11.  Did proc fear on a group of the rebels, closed one fade rift w/o incident, and fought a few random demons walking around.

edit:

Some more info:

-Went to Emprise and switched FF on.  Went to a fade rift and charged some Shades  (level 16) and managed to proc fear on Cassandra and myself.

-Switched FF back to off and then took the Tower of Bone, and then went through Suledin Keep and did not get hit with fear once.

What I might double check is to go back and fight more enemies below my level with FF on and see if the enemy level actually matters at all.

edit2:  Western Approach @ Level 18.  Was proc'd on Inquisitor and party vs a Level 15 darkspawn enemy.

So I have a real dumb question.  I was looking into reaver guides, and came across some tips on this passive.  Terrifying fury.

Now it may be changed from some patch, or perhaps it's difference in multiplayer, but I keep seeing some referenced synergy between fear and reaver.  In particular the linked guide above strongly recommends War Horn.  It is stated that crits cause panic and panic causes crits.  Is there something not mentioned...something I'm missing?  How does panic ensure a crit?

Your suspicion about MP differences is correct.

MP Reaver has the "Deathblow" passive: "You automatically critically hit enemies affected by fear or sleep. +3 Cunning"  It uses the Coup de Grace icon.

There isn't a readily available passive like this for SP Reaver AFAIK.  The closest would probably be Coup de Grace in Battlemaster for bonus against stunned or knocked down enemies (MP Reaver also has this).  Importantly, it is on the left side of the Battlemaster tree, which is a lot closer to Horn of Valor, which I used on the Reaver run in this thread.

MP and SP Reaver play a fair amount differently, IMO.  This is in no small part due to how frequently you spam Rampage in MP, and the high synergy with upgraded War Horn doing AOE damage.  You need a lot of points to get an SP Reaver down to upgraded Warhorn, but MP Reaver has most of the money abilities and passives in the Bloodlust tree, and War Horn is on the way to Flow of Battle.

*sigh*  I should really get out of my comfort bubble and try out some MP I guess.  Trying to figure out this reaver bit before I bite the bullet.  I love champion at first, but before long it is just like the KE (you can't die) and I lose interest.  Templar is great, but I was looking for something more gritty and less *holy music playing in background waaaahhhhhh*

MP Reaver is the version the Reaver should've been from the beginning. SP pales in comparison and is easily the weakest and most unfun specialisation for Warrior.
