Your mileage may vary.
I was having the lock-up when trying to create a new Shepard or importing an old one.
There is a (long) thread about it on this page.
P4 3.6 GH
WinXP SP3
2 GB Ram
GeForce 7950GT Video card.
Just got done with the early combat scenes in the lab so I am apparently working.
1) Turned ON hyper-threading on my CPU. Its off by default - unknown how related to ME2 now working.
2) Ran AlacrityPC - a freeware program I use (for other games) that you can configure to shut down just about all of you background services and processes. I'm pretty ruthless and shut down all I can.
3) Start ME2 from the ME2.exe not the launcher per the AlacrityPC program.
4) Let the EA and Bioware splash screens run till you get to the "press any key" screen.
5) DON'T "press any key" - let the intro video run.
6) Once back to the "press any key screen" just press and play!
Again I had the lock-up on import and making new characters, and when I figured out a way past that (the "press any key" bug) I could import my saved Shepard but the video and game ran with such chop and stutters as to be unplayable.
Using the above steps everything (so far) is working great.
Fixed my load screen lock-up and video stutters...
