No, they never were. Why some people worship Valve like that is beyond me.
Let me put it blank. Portal was not that great. It's a game with low replayability. Once you've done it, you only have the challenges left and that's for ultra competitive people who won't get a reward other than a useless achievement. There's no saviour in gaming. Only good companies that don't dick their consumers around.
