Crafting is a poor word choice. The word upgrade is much better for a modern-sci-fi theme. Crafting = magic =  medieval to me.

Upgrade and customization call to mind what ME3 did. Here is item X attach it to weapon Y. Crafting is a whole lot more than that since it usually calls to mind resource gathering, recipes and actual crafting processes. The latter is annoying as crap and doesn't work with advanced tek while the former is usually good.

You know, I just wanted the thrill of finding some cool loot in the field and being able to equip it on either myself, or a squaddie.

I really did not want to have to have the leather and the metals and the minerals and several cloths and maybe a rune for each item. I do it in DAI because it's better gear, but I could really do without all that.

If we have to craft, then yes, limited to weapon mods, omni-tool, and armor mods.  And hopefully the crafting isn't tedious.  Something that can appease the fans that don't really care for crafting, can easily use it and still be effective, and the people who love can spend hours crafting gear.

Yeah that's what I was saying if it has to be in there keep it simplre like DAI as I found DAI's crafting quite straight forward and easy to figure out.

That was first real crafting in a Bioware game so they'll likely stick with something like that

Crafting does make sense if you think about it. If your first time explorers in the Andromeda galaxy then there aren't weapon fabricaters to buy from at the start you'd work with what you got but if you face down a species with more advanced tech and armor then the next natural step would be to forge your own using the new minerals and energy sources you may find

Since ME isn't your typical sword and board rpg, I expect something more akin to the Engineering Labs from XCOM. Find the resources and build familiar but more powerful gear. Just my theory anyway

I agree an element of crafting I think is to be expected in this game given you and your team will be on your own I would imagine for large parts of it.You're also likely to be  running and gunning through large parts of the game just trying to survive. But as long as Bioware keeps it simple similar to the way they handled DAI. I  can't see too many complaints because while yes it is better to create your own weapons and armour it's fairly easy to do in DAI as long as you remember to pick stuff up along your travels through the world (or galaxy) in ME's case

I think they will do something like SWTOR with crew skills, where each crew member has a specific crafting trait.  So for example, if we have a Krogan, they will provide bonuses with shotguns, and Asari will provide bonuses for biotic amps, and Quarians with omni-tools.

I really liked DAI's crafting, one of things  that actually were good in the game, so something similar would be nice.

Hopefully we will be able to recruit Dagna to join our team. Looking forward to using my master lightning rune modified Avenger.

i'm not really into crafting systems in general either but like you I enjoy the way DAI handles this. I built quite a few useful daggers in my playthrough as a rogue. Also lots of nice looking armours in my mage playthroughs as well. Haven't done a warrior playthrough yet but I likely will eventually.

If we get some kind of stronghold in MEA and they don't do ME2 style planet scanning (most boring meta-game ever) then it could work.

For instance, you have an R&D team at your stronghold and they collect limited amounts of local resources to experiment with as you're going about your missions. When they make a breakthrough, for instance something that improves your shields, or maybe armour on the Mako, then they can ask you to keep a lookout for those types of resources as you're going about your missions (akin to ME1).

You'd simply need to secure the locations of those resources and your research team could then go about mass producing the gear... this could upgrade the grunts protecting your stronghold, make mods that improve your weapons or armour (or unlock new weapons/armour) or upgrade the Mako or stronghold itself. I'm sure there was something similar in DA:O or Pillars of Eternity.... take that idea and space-ify it.

After all, we are supposed to be pioneers in a new galaxy, any resources required to make, maintain or improve equipment would need to be sourced locally - through trade, gathering or otherwise. Just don't make it a tedious grind that you have to go out of your way for or have the player-character needing to try and cobble the gear together themselves - "Damnit Jim, I'm a space ninja not a wrench jockey!"

I like how you can add some parts of armor and weapons and make them more customised that way. And I love armor tinting too bad weapons don't have it as well :P

Exactly why I said we'll be running and gunning through a lot of the game I'd guess. So would likely need to assemble some bits and pieces on our own on the fly so to speak. It's possible we may have a base somewhere but I would think with us being newcomers to Andromeda it's likely to be a rudimentary one at best. Possibly get repairs and take some shore leave like the Citadel but that's about it. As long as  the crafting system is similar to DAI's though I'd think most will be able to live with that as it is relatively straightforward
