Apparently, if you don't have friends, you cannot play Nightmare.  And not even because pugs are incompetent or something, there are LITERALLY NONE OF THEM OUT THERE. Well, surely, you can solo if you can do it. 

 

What do you guys think? Those of you that have been pugging NM have you had any more success finding random games? My region is Europe and I don't have any problems finding lots of perilous games but omg NM is a wasteland.

 

 

Imho, this is prime time Europe for gaming so I am not sure what's happening.    And before someone says - find friends to play with - I have many. They just don't want to play Nightmare.

PC US east here, i pug NM. daytime it's a rare thing to find a lobby with people, a miracle if it's a decent team comp. evening i consider it lucky to find 2 decent pug runs.

 

I tried using vpn a while back to join some europe lobbies when nothing was happening here. it was a powerpoint slideshow presentation, but what can ya do with the stupid pos matchmaking system. i bet without the overhead of vpn it would have been manageable.

I found that also for the last 48 hours, in the end I sacrificed my L20 Legionnaire...  I soled through to the end of the 2nd area, a couple of people joined but kept dying and leaving and so on....   To much effort to hack away at the Fear Demon?? (big electric dude who shields up)

Nightmare is doable without a pile of promotions, but it tends to require a specific strategy. To get that accomplished, friends are your best bet; hence, the lack of nightmare pug groups. This is what happens when a game mode is added that is too difficult for the average pug group to handle, lol.

I totally agree. However, it's really disheartening to not be able to play it at all. I have very average stats but they are definitely enough for NM in a decent group (around 35/55/45), however... no group at all.

Seriously though, there is a guy on my platform that is way up on the leaderboards who starts public nightmares and solos it for people.  When there are no groups going 9 times outta 10 that's what hes doing.  Might take 2 hours, but he does it.

 

Region lock is crap.

NM pugs are going to be sparse for sure. Pretty nonexistent during the day but you can usually find something eventually in the evening.

 

But keep in mind that not finding a pug game already in progress does not equal 0 NM pug players. There are probably many just like you searching for a game and quitting when you get put in your own lobby. You should almost always get someone to join in the evenings if you start up the run and can survive a few minutes.

I met a guy last weekend on PS4, ran nightmare with him and his buddy.  His buddy was No 1 in June, forget his name, he used a L9 Arcane Warrior in Nightmare and didn't go down once!!    I felt poor, useless and suddenly meek

What system are you playing on? I play on the PS4, EU zone, and i find matches every so often. What i usually do is 1 search for a NM dragon hunt, if there isn't any i do a couple of perilous runs and then do another search.

 

Today i ran in to 3 different NM dragon lobby's. During weekdays you're out of luck during the day, but the evening is also good.

A lot of my high prestiged friends have quit the game over the exp glitch. That could have something to do with you having difficulties finding nightmare lobbies. There might not be enough high ranked people around.

Finally got to play a bit this week after moving. (Seriously, moving sucks.) Played a few matches just doinking around in perilous and got the summons from some friends and we cleared a few NM dragons. Went on yesterday and today and am seeing only the same 5 or 6 people in perilous. Tried to join my friends in NM last night and got a message that they were running a different version. Did I miss an update or something on PS4? Normally never have a problem with a bunch of different people in lobbies. I can't remember bumping into the same lobby 4 times in a row before.

On the whole the guy has an almost admirable lack of reservations about who he pugs with.

Of course he has friends that are quick to rush to him and fill up the room

Ya know this was true for perilous for a long time too.

There are really not enough high end players to expect pugs. As people lvl and the current nightmare players up their confidence it will become possible

For most of my runs I just start solo as the Legionnaire and hope people join in midway. For about 75% of my runs I end up in a duo with another Legionnaire or a heavily promoted player that can just face tank everything regardless of class.

It's too hard for pugs, that are generally low promoted and don't have armor/equipment to make the difference.

 

Not counting first day of curiosity trying, 1/3 successful NM pugs. In one I was too drunk and only realized it was NW on zone 4, funnily enough that was the one I made it. The other 2, where with the same group, I carried them to zone 5 but couldn't deal will the constant dmg on me.

I agree with you. However, it's a shame that this big rift exists between perilous and nightmare. Wish there were more average players (like me) that played it regularly.

I would love to invite you to my games but I'm west coast US so you'd probably spend the entire game rubber banding back to the start of the zone, trying to run from invisible enemies >.<
